Re: side by side graphics and captions without table
Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I ended up using a one row two column table for the pdf. Nothing worked well for epub output, so I created a simpler layout for that and added conditions for pdf and epub targets. Unfortunately, there are a lot of issues with epub/Kindle outputs from Flare as ...

epub still invalid (for years)
]I had brought this to MadCap's attention about two years ago: the epub target created by Flare is invalid. I got help from OxygenXML to troubleshoot the problem and the issue is that Flare compresses the mimetype (which violates standards). Apparently Madcap cannot or will not fix this, so epubs ...

Correct CSS for epub figure/text separation
I have a Flare file that works great for pdf output, but the text bumps into the image in epub output. My CSS is:
img.right45
{
width: 45%;
text-align: right;
float: right;
clear: none;
max-width: 100%;
margin-left: .1 in;
}
What is wrong with the margin code for epub?

Re: side by side graphics and captions without table
unfortunately, the <figcaption> text </figcaption> did not work for side by side graphics. The text ends up scrunched vertically between the two graphics.

Thank you for the help in the past.

Re: Flare vs InDesign for high quality printed output
I am very greatful for both the widows/orphans and keep with code. I will try these out. I am much more familiar with unstructured and structured Framemaker and with InDesign than Flare. But I am impressed with the power of Flare. InDesign has great color management, image handling, and typography ...

Re: Flare vs InDesign for high quality printed output
One other issue I encountered, which is probably more of a css than Flare issue: how does one specify “keep with” options to prevent page breaks that move a single line of a paragraph to the next page? I know this is possible with Framemaker, and maybe that is a better choice if the targets are just ...

Re: Flare vs InDesign for high quality printed output
Thank you for your reply. I have a book maintained in InDesign, Framemaker, and Flare that needs two different page sized pdf’s, an ePub, and a small pdf for emailing. As it is getting longer, using a rule based program like Flare (or structured Framemaker) is easier than in InDesign - but I want to ...

Flare vs InDesign for high quality printed output
I realize Flare is much better than InDesign or Framemaker for creating multiple targets, including multiple pdf outputs. For a longer book with lots of graphics, the reflow features of Flare make it much easier to create than in InDesign. However, I was wondering if one can get an equivalent output ...

Yes, the curly brackets issue was just a transcription. But THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Removing the extra floats fixed it and it displays perfectly!

Proper styles for side by side text and graphics
I don't seem to be entering the right css code for three scenarios: image on left with text on right, image on right with text on left, and text below graphics. I don't want to use two colums or a table, and the code needs to work for both pdf and epub outputs.

Re: Text to right of graphics
Thank you again. I found the problem. My default p style had box clear set to "left". I changed it to default and everything is working better. However, I tried to move the styles over to my main style sheet, and the problem reoccurred. Since this appears to be a css issue, I have posted the ...

Text to right of graphics
I am redoing a book I wrote, but this time I need to have a paragraph tag to put text to the right of certain graphics. I tried creating an img.Float for the graphic and a separate p.Float for text. Unfortunately it is not working. Can you direct me to a good solution to have text beside graphics ...

ebook mime compression
I've downloaded Flare 2017R3, and it still has the same bug I notified MadCap about in the last version: the ebook output compresses the mime definition - which is outside of ebook standard and which will generate errors when edited in Oxygen XML. I hope this will be fixed in some subsequent release ...

Everything was working until I upgraded from an old Macbook Pro running parallels and Win 10 to an iMac 2017 retina. The non print outputs work ok, but pdf output - regardless of font chosen - massively alters tracking in a most unpleasant way. See attachment.

Re: still with ebook problems
MadCap tech support found the problem with ebook TOC to be that, under the ebook style sheet, the TocProxy class Mc-output-support was set to pdf rather than epub. This must have changed somehow in the Flare update, as I had not edited the files. However, I am passing this on, in case this is an ...

still with ebook problems
About six months ago, I discovered that Flare's ebook output is flawed. It does not meet standards of epub in that it compresses the MIME header. I discovered this trying to edit a Flare exported ebook in Oxygen XML editor. Unfortunately, this problem has persisted in the last two updates. There are ...

Re: FameMaker Import Error
It looks like this issue occurs when the version of FM is more recent than the version of Flare. There have been patches released for this in the past: http://kb.madcapsoftware.com/Content/Flare/Patches/Flare_8/PATF811_patches.htm . Currently, for instance, Flare 2017 will not import Framemaker 2017 ...

Re: Controlling H1 Page Breaks?
Make sure you select print option in style sheet, as the page break is probably on that rather than the default. Files imported from Framemaker often get a page break before on the print option of the style sheet, even if that were not present in the Framemaker paragraph style.

Re: What is Flare 2016 r2?
The clean XHTML target does indeed create clean code. I hope they will use this to improve their ePub target to help eliminate code issues.
