Re: Strange css interpretation
You are correct that removing the space before gives a correct drop cap in iBooks. It is incorrect with every other output, and will display align the baseline and stick up above the rest of the text with every other output. I created a new project using the advanced epub and pdf output and verified ...

Re: Strange css interpretation
The drop cap is approximately the same style as in the advanced print and web output template (except the font size was changed from 36 to 40 pt). The reason for the space before setting is that a drop cap is traditionally "dropped" two or three lines and the top sits level with the top of the first ...

Re: Strange css interpretation
1. Regarding the lines above and below: thank you for pointing me in the right direction. The issue seems to be very font dependent. I can replicate that setting equal space above and below works with Arial but not with DTL Caspiri. There is a trial and error issue with fonts, it seems.

Re: Strange css interpretation
Thank you for your screen shots. The issue is not just with display in Flare, but it affects targets. You gave an example in HTML where it works as it should with the same distance above and below. In my example, I had targets for epub and pdf, rather than HTML. My experience with Flare is that it ...

Re: Strange css interpretation
Thank you for your suggestions. It doesn't like Flare likes em settings < 1.0, so I tried point settings, and still have to set the top as five times the bottom to put the font in the middle. The css for the paragraph is:
p.Title
{
text-align: center;
margin-left: 0in;
margin-right: 0in;

Strange css interpretation
There are two strange interpretations by Flare of css styles that I can't figure out how to fix, except by trial and error.
1. The first issue is lines above and below spacing. In Framemaker, I can set lines above and below that have perfect spacing by setting the advanced option in a paragraph ...

Re: Style editor tips and issues - UI character style tips?
I can confirm that documents do not refresh when changing and saving style sheets. The only fix is closing and reopening topics when using win 10 and parallels. I don't know if VMware is any different.

Re: Display issues with Flare on Mac + parallels
I am not seeing this with most recent version of parallels and latest update of windows 10. I wonder if it a graphics driver issue.

ePub targets from Flare
I am finding Flare a joy to use for setting up multiple targets. Maintaining multiple targets of a document for Word, small pdf with hyperlinks for emailing, large pdf for print, HTML, Framemaker, and epub outputs works pretty well in Flare, and there really aren't reasonable alternatives that don't ...

Re: ePub issues
I eventually was able to fix the epubs exported from Flare to eliminate the errors and allow uploads to Amazon. The things I had to do were:
1. eliminate the body paragraph in the template for advanced ebook and pdf files at the beginning of the chapters.
2. fix a corrupted cross reference.

ePub issues
I can successfully export an ePub out of InDesign or Framemaker 12. Neither generates errors. However, the same material exported out of Flare 2016R2 cannot be uploaded to Amazon. It also has strange links in the TOC on iBooks (but not Calibre) as if there were headers with no text (which there is ...

Re: Flare on a Mac
I am using win10 through parallels. Parallels has a lot of sharing configuration options for file storage location and accessing win programs in osx and osx programs in windows. I don't know how windows registry picks which program to open. Unlike boot camp, the two sides continue to interact. I ...

Re: Flare on a Mac
For those of you who are using Flare on a VM, can you preview targets and do all the conversions use programs on the Win side or OSX side? I've had problems where the pdf conversion seems to use Acrobat on the OSX side rather than Acrobat on Win10, and ebooks open IBooks on OSX rather than Digital ...

Flare with Parallels
It has been a great many years since I last used Madcap Flare. The last time I used it for a year, I needed a program mainly for constancy and stability in long books which were intended for print or at least pdf output. I ended up sticking with Framemaker, as it produced better pdf output, was a ...

Re: Flare performance and RAM?
Over 1 MB per image seems to cause problems (png, svg, jpg). This occurs even with few images per document.

Re: Flare performance and RAM?
I have lots of memory issues with Flare on a MacBook Pro with SSD drive and 8GB RAM. This appears to be unique to Flare, as it does not occur with basically the same files in Framemaker, mif2go, or robohelp. Graphic files which are around 1MB can cause this. I am hoping this will be addressed in ...
