Hi clpha6.
First, I assume you are using Flare 2017 r2.
Second, I'm not sure there is any "automated" way per se, especially given that people have different concepts/interpretations of what exactly "automated" can mean. That said, Flare does have a "Generate identifiers for this ...

Re: why are topics now opening in text editor?
Hi cayenne. Have you tried clicking the "XML Editor" tab in the lower left of the window? if you open any one particular file in the Text Editor, Flare retains the Text Editor as the preferred viewer until you switch back to XML.

Re: Reasons excluded topics are appearing in ouput
Hi Lisa.
Actually, there are a few reasons what you describe could be the case, so I'll just offer some ideas off the top of my head for you to check into.
For one, is there an *include* tag somewhere that would override the exclude tag? Also, check the case of the tag name both in the html file ...

Hi Wintermute.
It sounds/reads as though you know what you're doing (i.e. not doing anything "wrong") :)
I can suggest one thing for you to check. The ** Removed Links ** tab of the Project Import Editor. It's possible that somehow the Import file is listed there and if so, that would explain ...

Re: Searching Contents of Attachments
Hi Bill. No, you're not missing anything obvious. Flare search engine does not consider the content of a PDF file. For that matter, to my understanding the Flare search engine does not consider the content of most other non-html files. There is or was an output type called "WebHelp Plus" which when ...

Re: Do you put HTML files in an HTML folder?
Stuart, while Nita is correct in her response, there is something to *be aware* of. In your post, you use an example as "/Content folder 1". This would be indicative of a folder name with spaces. My advice would be that if you need long names in order to better discern the content within the folder ...

Thank you for the confirmation. While the fact that it was submitted as a feature request is good news, realistically they could decide not to pursue development of that feature or if they do decide to introduce the feature, it can be a very long time (years) before it makes its way into the product.

You're welcome Mike.
Okay, so your "shared snippet" I would call/label a "common snippet". No matter, I understand.
Your shared snippet should only be *editable at the source* (i.e. the help author in the Flare environment). Once that shared snippet appears in your basic, custom and other install ...

You're correct that three outputs is what is needed. Why did that idea "not fly"?
Not sure your missing anything or that my reply will help, but I suppose it can't hurt

Re: Context-Sensitive Help Look and Feel
Hi Dion.
It reads as though you have done things correctly. The masterpage should not have anything to do with this. My suggestion would be "clean" the project (Madcap procedure) and see if that helps. If not, perhaps enter a Madcap support ticket and see what their techs can offer.
