Re: Auto generate identifiers for sub-folder only?

Hi clpha6.

First, I assume you are using Flare 2017 r2.

Second, I'm not sure there is any "automated" way per se, especially given that people have different concepts/interpretations of what exactly "automated" can mean. That said, Flare does have a "Generate identifiers for this ...

Re: why are topics now opening in text editor?

Hi cayenne. Have you tried clicking the "XML Editor" tab in the lower left of the window? if you open any one particular file in the Text Editor, Flare retains the Text Editor as the preferred viewer until you switch back to XML.

Re: Reasons excluded topics are appearing in ouput

Hi Lisa.

Actually, there are a few reasons what you describe could be the case, so I'll just offer some ideas off the top of my head for you to check into.

For one, is there an *include* tag somewhere that would override the exclude tag? Also, check the case of the tag name both in the html file ...

Re: .flimpfl not being updated on import

Hi Wintermute.

It sounds/reads as though you know what you're doing (i.e. not doing anything "wrong") :)

I can suggest one thing for you to check. The ** Removed Links ** tab of the Project Import Editor. It's possible that somehow the Import file is listed there and if so, that would explain ...

You're welcome. Glad you got it sorted out. :D

Now I know how to "clean" a project, just a question then why would I need to clear my project ?

Thank you for your time!

I'm not sure the following suggestion will help, but it can't hurt

> Browse to the folder with your Flare project using Windows Explorer

Re: Searching Contents of Attachments

In a way, I can offer a work around. 8)

Realistically, my suggestion should already be the case. Titling. The title of the PDF should be accurate and indicative of its content. Somewhere in the HTML topics - that the Flare search engine can find - the text of the title should be present. The PDF ...

Re: Searching Contents of Attachments

Hi Bill. No, you're not missing anything obvious. Flare search engine does not consider the content of a PDF file. For that matter, to my understanding the Flare search engine does not consider the content of most other non-html files. There is or was an output type called "WebHelp Plus" which when ...

Re: Do you put HTML files in an HTML folder?

Stuart, while Nita is correct in her response, there is something to *be aware* of. In your post, you use an example as "/Content folder 1". This would be indicative of a folder name with spaces. My advice would be that if you need long names in order to better discern the content within the folder ...

Re: Image maps and thumbnails: can they be friends?

Thank you for the confirmation. While the fact that it was submitted as a feature request is good news, realistically they could decide not to pursue development of that feature or if they do decide to introduce the feature, it can be a very long time (years) before it makes its way into the product.

Re: How to tell if a shared snippet was updated

You're welcome again Mike.

If all you are wanting to know is **if** the snippet was updated - irrespective of what the update entailed - you can use the file tag set feature of flare. Perhaps this is all you need because the ...

Re: How to tell if a shared snippet was updated

You're welcome Mike.

Okay, so your "shared snippet" I would call/label a "common snippet". No matter, I understand.

Your shared snippet should only be *editable at the source* (i.e. the help author in the Flare environment). Once that shared snippet appears in your basic, custom and other install ...

Re: How to tell if a shared snippet was updated

Hi Mike -

I'm not completely sure what you mean by a shared snippet. In any event, to my knowledge flare only "knows" when a topic or snippet has been revised based on Windows (or other OS) modified date attribute. For instance, Flare does read the date modified information and displays it in the ...

I have a topic titled "Technical Requirements". Within that topic, the browser (and other) requirements are listed as a sub-set of the ...

Re: Connecting versioned output to versioned software

Hi TechWriter99 -

You should provide two outputs. Each output would be in a unique root folder, have one "startup" page and be specific to the version of the software. Once the startup page in any one version is accessed the help content in its entirety is accessible. So the developers need to ...

Re: Context-Sensitive Help Look and Feel

Hi Dion.

It reads as though you have done things correctly. The masterpage should not have anything to do with this. My suggestion would be "clean" the project (Madcap procedure) and see if that helps. If not, perhaps enter a Madcap support ticket and see what their techs can offer.

Hello 98plustwo. Welcome to the forum. :)
