Re: logo in page frame
Sorry, I was having network problems yesterday and the post got bolluxed, so I gave up when I managed to re-edit it down to just the place-holder question-mark.

Re: Searching in a project
What... are you nuts? :-)
I can't even figure out how to get the in-Flare Help Search to return results (on a simple search like... "search") without a boatload of useless clutter about a product I don't even have - MadCap Feedback.
Ok, seriously, I'll dust off my old regex notes and see if I can ...

Maybe I'm thinking about this wrong, or overlooking the obvious (in which case, feel free to embarrass me publicly) but...

getting to webhelp in Linux/UNIX
Hey gang,
If my Webhelp is on a local drive, I can browse it without problem in Windows, Linux, etc.
If my Webhelp is on a network file server, I can browse it without problem in Windows, but Linux and UNIX can't get past startpage.htm.

Strangely, that's not what I'd really hoped to hear, for my cross-platform help. :(

Searching for partial string in generated (Web)Help
I'm asking this in a general section because I'm not sure if it matters what the output type is (in my case, WebHelp).
How do I persuade the search function - or if it already does, then what do I tell my users/customers to do, in order to search on a partial string?
For example, a command-line ...

UPDATE Re: Where's my Search in linked project?
A couple of re-generations later, and the Search in my Help is working properly.
No indication why it went south.
No indication why it came back.
No indication when it'll take a hike again.
Previous to that, I had the infamous "../Content/Content/startpage.htm" problem - WebHelp could not be ...

AAAAaargh!
I just took one of the smaller projects that would be part of the global link project, and built and published it separately, to get a clean starting point.

Now it's laid out more clearly than what I stumbled over, in the Flare Help (man, it's hard to find things in there, in finite time... search for import and get "Importing Files" on the 25th hit, maybe... that's the only reason I came up with Global linking as a possibility, because it kept getting ...

How to decide what becomes Global Master?
One long-standing Flare Project 1 uses Conditions to generate WebHelp for Product A and for Product B. They share about 2/3 of their content.
A new optional software "overlay" (a management interface upgrade) - call it Product C - was introduced and trialled separately, so I made a small stand ...

OK, so that didn't work. Nobody can read my impenetrable prose.

No secondary pages after remove "/Content" directory
There's an option when declaring publishing destinations to not include the /Content directory. This flattens the file structure by one level, and all files that would have been in /Content are in the root level of the published Help instead. For reasons that need not concern this discussion, I ...

My WebHelp (per product) stays perhaps 90 percent constant from release to release.
Changes at a given release would be for:
a) new or changed features
b) improvements to my existing content
c) fixes of past errors or omissions

Re: Non-breaking spaces - making them stick
Can the <PRE> </PRE> tags be added via Flare's internal editor?
I've only been able to get them accepted as tags (as opposed to text items) if I edit a topic using an external editor (Notepad) - usually I have to wrap with <div> </div>. The Help search was not helpful.

Non-breaking spaces - making them stick
The Forum Search just told me that there are no occurrences anywhere of "no-break" or "non-break". I know different because I just wrote a post with at least one of those terms, which was in a thread where the terms had already been used by other folks.... but no matter.

Re: Inserting Images into Expanding Text
Are we mixing expanding and drop-down?
They both have their little persnicketynesses (like that word? I just made it up), but we should probably make a clear separation when we discuss symptoms and workarounds, so as not to confuse the next reader............ or me.
Cheers,

Expanding text defaults to ... expanded
The obvious benefit of Expanding text is that it starts out UNexpanded for easier, quicker reading of a paragraph, and only expands if selected (to provide additional background info or pictures and arrows, etc.).
