I can't even figure out how to get the in-Flare Help Search to return results (on a simple search like... "search") without a boatload of useless clutter about a product I don't even have - MadCap Feedback.

Ok, seriously, I'll dust off my old regex notes and see if I can ...

Maybe I'm thinking about this wrong, or overlooking the obvious (in which case, feel free to embarrass me publicly) but...

Would anybody else find it really, really useful if you could search your Flare project, using "Find in Files" and have some additional search filtering like:

If my Webhelp is on a local drive, I can browse it without problem in Windows, Linux, etc.

If my Webhelp is on a network file server, I can browse it without problem in Windows, but Linux and UNIX can't get past startpage.htm.

I'm asking this in a general section because I'm not sure if it matters what the output type is (in my case, WebHelp).

How do I persuade the search function - or if it already does, then what do I tell my users/customers to do, in order to search on a partial string?

A couple of re-generations later, and the Search in my Help is working properly.

My startpage is supposed to be a topic called "introduction.htm".

In the Basic tab of my primary Target, in the field for "Startup Topic:" I have browsed to that file at "/Content/introduction.htm".

When I publish and try to browse "startpage.htm", I get a file not found error that says it ...

My WebHelp (per product) stays perhaps 90 percent constant from release to release.

Changes at a given release would be for:

a) new or changed features

b) improvements to my existing content

c) fixes of past errors or omissions

Customers would like to have the NEW stuff highlighted in some way ...

Anybody heard of a workaround? Is it only on Windows? I just had a false alarm on Linux, but it turned out one of our testers was using the Firefox 3 beta... whew!

Anybody try Opera yet?

Can the <PRE> </PRE> tags be added via Flare's internal editor?

I've only been able to get them accepted as tags (as opposed to text items) if I edit a topic using an external editor (Notepad) - usually I have to wrap with <div> </div>. The Help search was not helpful.

I just opened the latest offending page in Notepad, only to find that between the word "Name" and the word "(Short)" - where there are visually about six ...

The Forum Search just told me that there are no occurrences anywhere of "no-break" or "non-break". I know different because I just wrote a post with at least one of those terms, which was in a thread where the terms had already been used by other folks.... but no matter.

I have Flare 4.2 on MS ...

Are we mixing expanding and drop-down?

They both have their little persnicketynesses (like that word? I just made it up), but we should probably make a clear separation when we discuss symptoms and workarounds, so as not to confuse the next reader............ or me.

The obvious benefit of Expanding text is that it starts out UNexpanded for easier, quicker reading of a paragraph, and only expands if selected (to provide additional background info or pictures and arrows, etc.).
