OK, but nothing to be done using Flare itself, then?
I was thinking that if Flare offered an approach, within the interface, it might pop up a target picker, for refining the xref text on-the-fly.
Maybe I'll dig up my old copy of RegexBuddy.
Or... Ruby, huh? I had started sniffing around the ...

hyperlinks in webhelp --> crossrefs for PDF output
G'day, all.
Is there an automatic, or semi-automatic way, within Flare, to convert many hundreds of topic-to-topic hyperlinks into Cross References?
Every topic has one (and only one) H1 heading.
Or am I stuck with manually finding every hyperlink, manually opening its target topic, manually ...

Re: Image saved to Flare Project not available
Have you closed Flare, and then re-launched?
I've found it to be stupid this way, on occasion.
I'm using Flare 8.1.1 on Windows 7 64-bit, but I recall the problem (occasionally) on earlier Flare and Windows XP.

How does MadCap handle updates/fixes within a major version of Flare, once the next major version has launched?

I might need to try again, but with populated paragraphs (not just empties) before and after the Dropdown, and before and after the snippet (attempt).
Wow, that's a lot of scrolling, isn't it?

Not for me.
I _DID_ make sure I had a couple of paragraphs selected below the bottom of the Dropdown, when I was selecting for the snippet. Didn't work for me.
At least one of those was empty, though... just a paragraph marker with no text. Maybe........

Case 37447.
My worry is that the grayed-out Ribbon/menu item (Create Snippet) was CORRECT!
If that's the case, then my workaround will break sometime in the future, probably just at a really tense deadline...

Someone will reply shortly, telling you that you have simply misunderstood, due to the pre-conceptions you brought from the Frame - WebWorks flow, and telling you how to do what you want in Flare in two simple steps.

Where are the rules for snippets?
I've got Flare 8.1.1 on Windows 7.
I had a section of several paragraphs plus a screencap that was needed on several topic pages, but only for some users.
Therefore I wanted:
a) to make it a drop-down, so it would not intrude on the flow for the majority of users who would not need its content ...

Re: Search Question Redux
Yes! Thanks.
I think I vaguely remember turning that off, eons ago (maybe even RoboHelp days?) due to another user complaint about search speed.
It's back on. Speed seems OK to me, and maybe whoever complained before is dead now, or retired. So the current complaint is now partly satisfied. :-)

But notice that it does that on only SOME of the links in the path, not all.
About 2/3 of the breadcrumbs string is unencroached. And the affected portion is
partway along the breadcrumbs path... not at the beginning or the end.
Is Flare allowed to pick and choose where/when it will apply ...

Did you try the low tech approach of copy and paste?
I think the biggest obstacle is the requirement to have the text editable. You may need to 'disable' the text and add that back in within Flare while importing the rest as graphic file.

Thanks for the reminder. I'd wondered about that.
The highlighting ranged from annoyance to very useful... sometimes within a span of two minutes....
So having the highlight AND the ability to switch it off were useful.
