Re: Auto-generate identifiers for bookmarks within topics?
Hi Dave - We were hoping that establishing these identifiers would mean that we could do away with the paths altogether and thus have flexibility in renaming .htm topics, moving files around in the help directory, et cetera. Does that sound right? Please let me know if I'm missing something. :wink ...

Re: Auto-generate identifiers for bookmarks within topics?
Thanks, Dave!
Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Hmm. Since we're moving from .chm to WebHelp, I assume that means I'll have to go and manually generate 100's & 100's of these identifiers by hand?

Ah, OK. I hear ya! Thanks for following up.
I'm not sure if I have the bandwidth for something like this either, but I'm still going to do a bit of research and push for it. Here's the deal: the first one to get this working will circle around on this thread.

Re: Best fonts for topic text
Arimo is a good one and it is a Google Font. You can integrate this into your project easily. Here's a screen cap I drummed up for you, as well as the .css I used when testing. You can set up the font family to fall back on some system font:

Re: "mailto:" form not compiling in Flare 10
Hey Paul - I was wondering about this very thing. Pulse is not an option for us, but I would like to gather feedback. I was planning on using Google analytics and some sort of a feedback mechanism. Here's a little sample of two skins I've been working on:

Re: v10.1 - Context Sensitive Help (CSH) - What the fudge?
This is precisely what I'm dealing with, Rona. We are moving from .chm to WebHelp, and I'm trying to figure out versioning. And this CSH thing. Whatever Dave said sounds like it might be the ticket; I'll have a dev here further translate it for me. :D Do let us know what you decide on your end. I'm ...

Re: WebHelp versions w/product versions
Yes, I see. I'll chew on this a bit. Thanks! And yet--I am still not sure as to how adding versions in the final, primary WebHelp output will work: Do you just link from your primary help TOC contained in an output saved at www.help.com/V1 over to another output saved at www.help.com/V2 ?

Re: WebHelp versions w/product versions
Thanks, kwag! When you say version control, do you mean source control? We maintain our help in one branch within TFS. The various versions of our help (.chm format) are (or were!) very "fluid" in nature and have been compiled and shipped with each release, hotfix, service pack, et cetera.

WebHelp versions w/product versions
I'm converting everything we have from .chm (HTML Help) to WebHelp. I upgraded to v10.2, bought analyzer; the world is my oyster! But... I realize that I am not sure exactly how to deploy/maintain WebHelp for various versions of our product. Thoughts? Previously, we would just smash the version ...

Re: Moving Flare to New Branches in TFS
I communicated with MadCap support on a related note and can confirm that branching is not supported currently (v10.0.0 as of this post). However, a feature request was generated over the course of my interaction with their team.
We have some serious branching going on here, too. The map of the ...

WebHelp Output file list
Does anyone know of a reference that I could look through to help me better understand the "nitty-gritty" of the basic WebHelp output? For example, I'd like a list of files that are to be expected after building a WebHelp target in Flare v10. I've read the v10 .pdf guide. Thanks!

Get rid of all F1 calls; keep help...
A wild idea just crossed my mind.
Why not get rid of all F1 calls (save one, which calls the WebHelp start page from anywhere in the application) to free up developmental resources? With a good search option, would this be OK? Am I crazy to consider wiping out 2,400 F1 calls?
Or, asked differently ...

Is DotNet Help worth it?
I have a few questions, and I would love some expert advice on any or all of these points. We develop a giant enterprise DotNet application, and I'm trying to determine if this output will fit the bill for us. I'm going to move us from .chms to something better (this year) and you can help me if you ...

Nicely done! No need to apologize for "rambling." This is great food for thought and I appreciate you going into such depth. Fantastic, thanks! Do let us know what happens. I have a few more questions for you:
Do you use F1 to call your help?
Is your help also context senstitive?
When you talk about your help modals, are you saying that you will eventually be single-sourcing both the WebHelp and the HTML5 output?

Re: Google Analytics causing slow loading WebHelp?
What happened here jsandora? I'm considering integrating Google Analytics (GA), and am extremely curious as to how this worked out. I am reticent on using Pulse. Maybe we'll use it someday to watch what people are searching for, but we just don't need all the social goodies. I figure that we'll test ...

Re: 800+ .props files should NOT be in TFS
Well, this is all good information! Very informative. Thanks, everyone! :D I'm going to have to consider what I want to do here. I experimented a bit with adding and removing some of the CBT's within the application. I now have a boatload of empty .props files, but the outputs were saved.
