Re: Float text around images.

Good work Peter. 40px padding - nice touch.

The float implementation is quite straightforward, as we've seen, but sometimes understanding the concept needs a bit of a look. The "float" actually affects the image, not the normal paragraphs that flow round the image - they are not floated. This is ...

Re: breadcrumbs

Hanne, is this for an online output or printed output? Breadcrumbs are not supported in printed output, they are a feature for online output only.

For online output, you can put the breadcrumbs proxy on the master page to make it appear in all your topics.

Re: Float text around images.

The float property is very useful, so it is worth investing some time to get to grips with it. You could start here: http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_float.asp . Or search for e.g. "css float tutorial" [<< by this I mean a general web search]. The rules for using floats are not complicated, so you ...

Let me get this bit right. If I have a MathML type equation I still need to install the JRE to use or import it in Flare?

Hi Peter, yes I think so. If you copy a MathType equation to the clipboard and try to paste it into Flare, do you get the Java message? Flare uses the MathML format, so it ...

Re: Inserting equations.

Peter, I think you need Java for equations anyway. The Flare help says: "In order to use the Equation Editor, you need to install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE). You can download the JRE from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp.

Flare uses MathML to process equations. I expect ...

Re: Page layout issue

I think this is because of the "single-source-multiple-output" power of Flare. The MadCap tech writer explains it this way in the Help: "The reason Flare does not automatically show a topic in the appropriate page type is because it won't assign page types to content until you generate the output ...

Re: Page layout issue

There are a couple of view settings that you can configure for your topic as you work on it; they are in the topic toolbar just below the topic's tab: Layout , Medium , and Page Layout . You can use these to switch the view of the topic between online and print. When you select your print layout ...

Re: Table in toggler doesn't show correct size

If your topic displays correctly in the output, I'd say don't worry about trying to fix the preview. The preview can't always display everything exactly wysiwyg, and it has no knock-on effect on the output. If your output displays correctly, you've configured your topic correctly.

Re: Images with automatic caption creation

Fiona, I don't think you can add these kind of editing rules in Flare (whereas in some XML schemas I think you can do this). You could set all these things up in a snippet, and instruct users (other writers?) to use this snippet whenever they wanted to add an image. The snippet would contain the div ...

Leave all your topic headings as default (H1), and enable "Use TOC depth for heading levels" on the Advanced tab of your PDF target. Then configure the heading styles in your online medium (usually default) and your print medium according to how you want them to appear. All the topic headings in ...

Re: Using Div instead of table

Although some people consider tables not best practice, they are (in my book) best practice for displaying information.

I agree. In this case, Michael, I also think a table would be fine, and you can hide the borders so that it doesn't look like a table. The problem with tables is that they are ...

Re: Text wrap without float

I think what you are actually doing there is putting an image inline, and the text just follows on (this is normal). If the line of text is long and needs to break, it will automatically go below the image because the image is part of the first line (as opposed to being considered a separate element ...

Re: Missing hyphen when XML code goes to new line

Does using pre tags help, as kwag_myers suggests?

I expect that with p tags, the PDF software is reading the last hyphen as standard hyphenation, so when the text is copied, it "helpfully" rejoins property and value as it thinks they are one word that has been hyphenated at the line break. I don't ...

You can do this by creating a span class and configuring it to display a border. You can then highlight the desired words in a sentence and apply your span.

I think this is not so much a Capture issue, more about finding the right way to swap images. If your image has Capture edits, and therefore a props file, you can make the swap from within Capture using Replace on the Edit ribbon. This lets you swap the image out for a new one while keeping all your ...

Re: Figure Caption -- Keep With Next

Steve, ideally you'd set up the style class in your stylesheet beforehand, then when you open the Group dialog box, the style class appears as one of the options, and you can just select it there, job done. If you've added the class to the topic via the text editor, but have not yet set up the style ...
