Hi Peter
There are a couple of things you can do. You can save many of the Flare building blocks as templates, so topics, snippets, TOCs, and maybe other stuff. Flare then displays these templates automatically in the "add file" dialog box. The Flare Help file has a section on templates.
The other ...

Re: How to import *.svg files into Capture?
Hi René
I don't think you can get an SVG into Capture. As you say, there is no import function, and SVG is not supported by File > Open . You need to convert them to e.g. PNG, then Insert Image with a capture open. They will then be available as objects and you can add them to a palette. But after ...

Re: How to set transparency color for an object?
Hi René
It is definitely confusing. First save the capture in a format that supports transparency e.g PNG or GIF, then you can leave the slider at 0% and pick your transparent colour. Then it should work. I think the default format that Capture uses for unsaved captures is BMP, which doesn't ...

Re: Cancel a capture.
Too late for my last post: I found where palette files live. Not difficult really, they are in Documents > My Palettes
I never really go looking in there for files. So we could share palettes. Maybe MadCap could host them, like skins and templates?

Re: Cancel a capture.
I'd still save the Snagit file as an editable format.
Peter, I agree, that is good time-saving workflow. I do the same with Inkscape for non-Flare callouts.
Something else I like about Snagit is that when you do a capture you can nudge the start and end capture points a pixel at a time using ...

Re: Cancel a capture.
Hi Nita, thanks, good point. Hopefully MadCap are planning some Capture improvements, including ESC.

Re: Cancel a capture.
Hi Peter,
I think that is a good practical approach. I agree that each tool excels in places where the other doesn't, and I also run Snagit for simple non-Flare stuff.
For step 2, couldn't you skip the "save to bitmap" part in Snagit and just use Capture to grab the native scene in Snagit ...

Re: Cancel a capture.
There doesn't seem to be. Although, if you do a basic capture (not a window), you can cancel straight out with a single click. I also like the Snagit ESC function. We should put in a feature request.

Re: Capture or Snagit.
Thanks Shawn. Yeah, that was my concern: having to work with flat files. In my non-Flare workflow I use Inkscape to layer up bitmap images and vector callouts/overlays, and then export the png. I keep the svg source for future modifications, but it still means several steps when updating images ...

Re: Capture or Snagit.
Hope it works for you, Peter. Don't let first impressions put you off. Test it with a Flare project using some fully pimped captures, don't draw conclusions just on the initial capture tools. Triumphal music is not earned cheaply.

Re: Capture or Snagit.
I had Snagit before I started using Flare/Capture. I still use both tools and I love both. Snagit is fast, so I use it for everyday stuff - quick caps to put in emails or IMs.
But Capture is hidden treasure. I didn't like it at first - I think general consensus is that it is less intuitive than e.g ...

Re: Flare v10 - Poor rendering of OTF fonts in the XML editor
Excellent summary Shawn!
I did some quick, less excellent testing. I agree with your findings; the GDI+ switch doesn't seem to make a huge difference. Perhaps there are specific conditions in which is works best. It seems that the rendering in the XML editor faces some challenges, but I'm still ok ...

Re: Flare v10 - Poor rendering of OTF fonts in the XML editor
There's a setting in Options > XML Editor > Enable GDI+ Text Renderer
I think the default setting is "off" (possible performance issues). Does turning it on help? (Haven't been able to check this myself yet.)
As this option exists, I expect MadCap are aware that there might be display issues in ...

Thanks Dave. I appreciate that I am probably jumping the gun. I'll wait for the email. But then, my subscription renewal notice came nearly 3 months earlyMind, in my experience it usually takes over a day for the email to be sent out.

I am also curious about why there has not been any fanfare. I downloaded the trial version of 10, but I could not convert it with my subscription licence key. Thanks Lisa. So do the generated classes only get generated after a link is visited?
Maybe I'm missing the point or not explaining what I am seeing properly.
I see references in the topics here that say that the mini TOC items use the base <a> style and pseuo classes. But it seems to me that these ...

Re: Some miniTOC links use p.MiniTOC1 and some a.MiniTOC1
3 years later... I have the same problem that Gamepro had. I am using the default Flare styles for my minitoc, but when I generate the output (HTML5) the links in the minitoc are paragraph colour (different to my specified link colours) with no hover colour. After I click a link, it then starts ...
