Re: Flare 12 Review

Thanks for the review Paul, great overview of the key features and how they assist writers. I agree that the stylesheet editor update and single-sourcing improvements make the upgrade worthwhile.

Re: Responsive Divs

are you using it? [flexbox]

I'm experimenting with it in my certification project. Got to code it manually in the css, but it is quite easy to learn the properties. I think it is useful for targeted instances where you might want some grid-like presentation in one specific area of your page or ...

Hi Carrie - on the Advanced tab of your target's properties, there is an option: Do not use "Content" folder in output.

Re: HTML5 compiles all topics not just ones in TOC - why?

Another method for excluding unrelated content from a build: Open your HTML5 target, display the Advanced tab, and select Exclude content not linked directly or indirectly from the target . Anything that is not in your TOC, and not linked to anything that is included in your project, will not be ...

Re: Effects on image/Windows Snipping Tool

The effects are specific to the Capture application, not to your system overall. You can only get these effects when using Capture, either through a direct capture or by opening an image file in Capture, as you have described. Other screen capture tools may provide other effects, but only within ...

Re: Capture crosses over two screens

I am not sure that is possible. I think it is a function of your operating system. There are utilities available for managing multiple screens, which allow you to force applications and associated dialog boxes on to a particular screen, but that is probably over the top for this one scenario.

I use ...

Re: Inserting text in a graphic using Capture

Hi - It is not possible to do this in Flare or Capture. The best method is to size all your images to their intended output size before importing them to your project. Then, as long as you don't resize the images in Flare, either directly or using styles, any callouts you apply in Capture will ...

Re: Using the feature Auto-size Capture objects to fit text

Maybe the user could lock certain sides of an object so that the resizing can only be in certain directions.

Hi Paulie and pelikano - I think this is possible: you can anchor an object in Capture using the Rectangle tab in the object properties dialog box. You can activate anchors top, bottom ...

Re: PDF Pagination - PDF page numbers vs Document page numbe

I think the simplest way would be not to restart numbering after the TOC, but to continue the numbering sequence. You can start numbering with roman (for frontmatter) and then switch to decimal for your main content while maintaining the numbering sequence. It would mean that the first page of ...

Re: HTML5 vs WebHelp

One of the most significant differences is that HTML5 output is responsive, while WebHelp is not.

The HTML5 guide on the MadCap site has a comparison table in Appendix B. It is a good starting point: http://docs.madcapsoftware.com/FlareV11 ... 5Guide.pdf.

I made a short movie to demonstrate the procedure: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zvi4j4ul4gf7mcw/AAA6m2pOwB7SLAAXKVQPHLfYa?dl=0 . No audio sorry. This applies to Capture 7.

I took a demo capture from this thread, and the goal was to remove the blank space in the middle. I also refined the procedure to ...

Re: Can you capture the mouse pointer in Capture 7?

Hi Brian

In Capture 7 you can find it in File > Options > Capture tab.

The other method that you found is also a good way to include the cursor - I use that method a lot rather than dig into the options each time to switch the cursor on or off.

It would be good if you could set the include cursor ...

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC

Default location for your TOC is in Project > TOCs in your filesystem.

Probably best to close the project first.

Copy it to Project > Advanced > Browse Sequences.

Rename it and give it the .flbrs extension.

Open the project and set your new browse sequence up in your project.

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC

You can copy all your TOC entries from your TOC and paste them into an (almost) empty browse sequence. It's not automatic, but it does half of the work for you.

Select the first TOC entry, then shift-click the last one to select them all (ctrl-A doesn't seem to work). Copy the TOC entries.

In your ...

Re: Cropping Out the Middle (White Space)

The Cut Out function in Snagit is very nice. It is a variation of the Crop and Trim tools, which Snagit also has. The Cut Out tool allows you to remove a horizontal or vertical strip (edge to edge) from the middle of your image, and then close up the remaining parts of the image. There are fancy ...
