Optimizing Search in HTML outputs
Earlier today, I presented a MadCap webinar on enhancing the search experience for users of the HTML outputs that Flare users produce. Flare offers a lot of options to design better search experiences for users of our help systems, but search is also an inexact science with a lot of moving parts. I ...

Re: Adjust Margin-Left for Logo
A number of months ago, I stumbled across a post here in the MadCap forums that explained how to add a stylesheet to your Flare project to modify skin properties. This allows you to change elements in your skin without having to do any post processing. While I have a blog post that explains how to ...

ePub error in iBooks on iPad
When I open my ePub output in iBooks on an iPad, I get the following error about 10 pages in: "Failed to load book because the requested resource is missing." I don't get any error on any other ePub reader that I've used.
Has anyone had this error before? Anyone have any idea what may be causing it ...

Re: Example, Note, Caution, Related Topics, ... syles
You'll want to set up classes in your stylesheet for each element. In your example, you may end up with classes like "p.example", "p.note", "p.caution", and "p.related" in your stylesheet. To add these classes, open your stylesheet in Flare, highlight the element to which you want to add a class (in ...

Re: Variable displays the wrong style in HTML5
Patt, make sure that you switch the medium to "default" when you are styling HTML5 output in your stylesheet. My guess is that you're looking in the print medium. Any styles in the print medium don't affect HTML5 output.

Re: Contitional Search Filters
I've never tried setting conditions on search filters.
One possible solution is to create multiple search filter files, and then, in the target, specify which search filter should be used for that particular target. You can specify the search filter for your target in the Advanced tab of your target.

Adding a PDF file as a TOC entry
I've added a PDF file to my project and have included it as an entry in my TOC. This is working just fine in webhelp output, but when I build my PDF output, I get an error that the PDF that I've linked to in my TOC can't be included.
Anybody have a workaround for this? Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Topic printing from Flare covers header text
The printed output from the Print button uses the same stylesheet as the HTML. You can, however, create an "@media print" section in your stylesheet that defines the styles that should be used when someone presses the print button. As such, you have control over how the printed output displays ...

Re: Creating thumb index for PDF output
Hi Lydia,
I've done a thumb index before. The way I did it was by creating a new page layout for each chapter, with each page layout having the correct placement of the thumb index content. Then, in your TOC, you need to set either a Chapter Break or a Page Layout Break on the first page of each ...

Hi Zack,
A couple things you might try:
-I noticed that you are using a pixel value to set the width of your first column, and a percentage to set the width of the second. Try using the same metric on both of them (either both pixels or both percentages). For example, you could have column 1 be 25 ...

Re: Suppressing/Elimiating Browser Tab
I don't know of any way to turn off browser tabs from within a Flare project. Whether or not a browser displays tabs is a browser setting, not a Flare setting. While you can disable tabbed browsing in your own browser, you don't have any control over the tabbed browsing settings in others' browsers ...

Re: Suppressing/Elimiating Browser Tab
Are you talking about the Browse Sequence?
Open your skin, and under the General tab, there is a Features section. Simply unclick the Browse Sequences option.
Hope this helps.

Re: Help getting rid of gray frame background
As Nita mentioned, make sure that you're working in the print medium of your stylesheet. I don't know how many times I've ripped my hair out wondering why on earth a particular style wasn't working, only to discover that I was working in the wrong medium.

Re: HTML5 skin - position of the search bar
I've never been able to find a way to move the search box from within Flare. The only way that I know of to move the search box is to do post-processing editing on the stylesheet. It's a pain, but it works. Here is how to do it:

Re: Glossary Files created even though de-selected in skin
Looking closely at the glossary tabs on both the webhelp and the HTML5 targets, I noticed that the webhelp target has an extra box at the bottom called "Glossary Master Page" that doesn't exist in the HTML5 target. Here is the content that gets added to both the glossary.htm and the glossary.xml ...

Re: Glossary Files created even though de-selected in skin
Here is what my glossary tab looks like in my webhelp target, and like Chris, I still get a glossary.htm and a glossary.xml in the output. For me, this occurs only with the webhelp target, not with the HTML5 target.

Re: Glossary Files created even though de-selected in skin
I see the exact same thing when generating a webhelp target...empty glossary files. When I generate an HTML5 target for the same project, the glossary files are not included in the output. Seems like the glossary files should be left out of the webhelp output as well.
