Re: adding custom content above the TOC
Thanks for the tip, ChoccieMuffin, but for the same amount of work I might just as well remove all non-output topics from the project and chuck them somewhere else. However, now that I had a chance to browse around the forum a while, I found a few more posts (also by Dave Lee, as it happens ...

Re: adding custom content above the TOC
Thank you for this code, Dave, it’s just what I need for my project! However, I did run across a difficulty in using it, and I’d like to ask if you or anyone else has any tips.
Edit: I'm using Flare version 10.2.2, in case that is relevant.
I kept wondering why the skin.css stylesheet in my ...

Removing table captions from a particular table style
I'm wondering if it's possible to remove table captions globally based on the table style, as opposed to removing them individually in each table's Table Properties. I'm using two different table styles in my project and would like to remove captions completely from one style but keep them in the ...

Paste icon not working properly
Hello,
I have a problem trying to paste code examples into Contributor. I want to paste code examples from other programs and have them retain the proper indenting, so I'm trying to paste the code inside a pre tag and then select Paste inline text from the paste icon. This works fine sometimes, but ...

Re: Style applied to block snippet works in PDF, not HTML
Thanks Dave Lee! The problem is that in my documents, the snippet text (parameter description) needs to be indented in some contexts but not in others, so I would prefer to have the indentation separate from the snippet itself, if possible. So I guess divs are the way to go, unless I can figure out ...

Re: Style applied to block snippet works in PDF, not HTML
Thanks for your comments! Strangely, when searching in Notepad, my stylesheet does not have snippetBlock defined at all, although using snippet blocks seems to work all right, except for this particular issue. My stylesheet is based on Flare's default stylesheet in the WebPrintMobile template, which ...

Re: Style applied to block snippet works in PDF, not HTML
Ok, I whiled away my Friday afternoon looking for a workaround. One thing that seems to work is putting the block snippets inside an indented div style (instead of an indented paragraph style). This is what I got in HTML for the above example with indented divs:

Re: Style applied to block snippet works in PDF, not HTML
In Notepad my p.ListBody style listed is under @media non-print. In the Flare stylesheet editor, it is under "Medium: (default)", which, if I have understood correctly, is valid for all media types. And it seems to work perfectly well for both PDF and HTML output for ordinary paragraph text, it is ...

Style applied to block snippet works in PDF, not HTML
Apologies if this issue has already been covered somewhere; I could not find a thread on this particular problem on the forum in other discussions of snippet use.
Edit: I'm using Flare 9.1.2.

Re: Best practices for internal commenting in documents?
Thanks for your replies! What a good idea, having a separate comment type for content-related things. Currently I am the only tech writer working on our material, but even so, I sometimes manage to puzzle myself with what I've written years earlier and subsequently forgotten the reasons for :D ...

Re: Best practices for internal commenting in documents?
Thanks, Steve! It seems that basically your workflow is the same: both style and condition are used. Only the output strategy is different, because I do want one version of output with the internal comments visible.

Re: Link display in XML Editor gone wonky
Ok, the good news is that I managed to find out the reason for this behavior, the bad news is that I can't do anything about it. The other shoe dropped when I noticed that also Flare's UI elements were having the same problem:

Best practices for internal commenting in documents?

Link display in XML Editor gone wonky
Suddenly the XML Editor in Flare 9 is showing links sort of half-cut off along the bottom, like this:

I have no idea why this is happening. Have I inadvertently done something to the font or display settings? Any ideas?

Re: Page source in HTML5 showing strange content
Yep, I was just coming back to report that I tried a couple of other test projects, one with an Empty template and another imported from a Word file, and they also have the same page source. So it seems to be coming from the HTML5 build process itself regardless of template or skin. But if you, and ...

Re: Stuck trying to create multiple PDFs

it's the basic Web Print Mobile template from the New Project Wizard, Flare version 9.1.2. Actually, I now tried to create a test project from that same template, and it exhibits the same behavior. This time I made absolutely no changes to Flare's default settings or content, just created ...

Re: Stuck trying to create multiple PDFs
To answer my own question at long last, I finally ended up manually creating separate TOCs and targets for each PDF document in the project. This is probably not the most elegant solution possible, but at least it works for me, since I only need a handful of separate PDFs.

Page source in HTML5 showing strange content
Hello all,
I'm fairly new to Flare, so I've created HTML5 output for my documentation the easy way, based on MadCap's example template. The web pages look fine, but when I click "View page source", I get a long litany of code with lorem ipsum filler text, items named "Click a star to rate this ...

Thank you Jason, I'll try those tips out. I'm new to Flare and this is my first project - basically just transferring our existing Word/PDF documentation to Flare. The webhelp turned out fine, but PDF is really giving me a headache.

Stuck trying to create multiple PDFs

Re: Is there a way to search for all xrefs pointing to a topic?
Thanks, I'll try that! Although as I understand it, the code (text editor) is available only per topic once I open the topic - I suppose there's no way to search all of my project's code at once?
