Creating a custom variable

I want to keep track of and be able to quickly determine what version of a document is being used.

To that end, I manually change the build number for each build. The problem is that this is very error prone... or more accurately, I am often forgetting to change the build number (placed in on the ...

...For example, for my Table of Contents I have a class like h1.Contents and then in the stylesheet I have mc-heading-level set to 0 for that class (this tells Flare that this style should not be considered a heading and therefore excluded from the TOC). And then for the cover page I use p.Title ...

I should point out that I reviewed this help document but it wasn't helpful.

How do I suppress page numbering on cover, TOC?

Hello all,

Happy Monday :D

My auto-generated TOC is including the document cover page, a non-existent page, and the TOC in the page count.

How do I suppress the counting of these pages? I don't want the TOC to include the cover page and itself. The TOC should begin on my preferred page 1, the ...

Re: Flare CRASHED!

I reported my crash experience on 20130916, issue#52081, and Conrad acknowledged it but did not submit it as a bug report.

I'm going to reopen it and request that my issue be attached to the same bug report you posted... 79915.

Thank you.

Re: Flare CRASHED!

MadCap support have raised a bug report for this. It is 79915.

But they have asked that others continue to report the problem if they come across it, as they prefer to continue to receive evidence.

I have asked support to watch this thread. Never received acknowledgement. Do they ever? Do MadCap ...

Re: Loss of image fidelity when publishing PDF

This logo image is a PNG. I know both the Flare and Word documents had exactly the same image inserted as I changed it only last week. In my case, I would say that the PDF from Word is no better than the PDF from Flare at lower zoom levels. Both have replaced some of the orange with either dark ...

Re: Loss of image fidelity when publishing PDF

I don't think this is Flare - it's the PDF format. I got looking as well as our product logo sometimes comes out badly, and sometimes OK in PDFs. You are correct - it is to do with the zoom.

I've just last week changed the logo in all our docs (Flare and Word). I know I used the same image for all ...

Re: ignore image rescaling from Word on reimport

Hello!

I have been testing the waters with Flare. I do a lot of editing and writing in Office on my Macbook and so far the import into Flare has gone pretty smoothly.

However, I have noticed that, along with formatting like character and paragraph styles, Flare is setting some local styles in the ...

BTW, I could you find a few references to this error, in this forum:

Re: Loss of image fidelity when publishing PDF

I found a partial solution. At least this appears to work for images such as corporate logos. Since I have the original .eps logo, I found that with Ghostscript installed (Flare's way of supporting .eps), the logo appears to render perfectly at all zoom levels.

What can I conclude from this? I ...

Re: Loss of image fidelity when publishing PDF

FWIW I see the same behavior in other PDFs that I have access to (ones that I have not generated in Flare). Maybe the effect is more pronounced in your documents due to the large files? Sorry to not be much help, I haven't thought too much about it because the PDFs I generate are mostly just for ...

Weird behavior when editing the glossary/index.flpgl files

I wanted to customize the files like the glossary.flpgl and index.flpgl files. For instance, remove the default header/footer black lines.

For a while, I was becoming frustrated that after changing the border properties, the black borders were returning... over and over, I would re-edit only for ...

Re: Loss of image fidelity when publishing PDF

Of all the problems I have encountered with Flare, this has got to be the most maddening problem.

I haven't a clue why images are so poorly rendered at 100% in Adobe PDF viewer, but begin to look fine as I zoom in. I have never seen such weird behavior. What I should expect is all zoom levels ...

Re: Loss of image fidelity when publishing PDF

Just ignore this comment if it's crazy obvious, but, are you only looking at your PDFs at 100% zoom? Usually the images look pretty bad at 100% zoom when viewing on a computer, but if you zoom in the images will start looking crisp and clear. Also if you print the PDF, the images will be fine. If ...

Re: Loss of image fidelity when publishing PDF

Received an answer back from MadCap support.

Answer:
This is typically due to Print output requiring a much higher DPI for images than required by online output. Most images for print should be set at 300 DPI, while online is typically around 72-96 DPI. MadCap Capture can be used to single-source ...
