Loss of image fidelity when publishing PDF
Hello all,
I am experiencing terrible image resolution loss in images published in a PDF.
I have two targets, HTML5 and PDF. The images in my HTML5 target output is fine; however, the images in my PDF target output are noticeably compressed (loss of fidelity).

Re: Flare CRASHED!
Just a little tip... because I purchased an expensive support contract, I am maintaining a spreadsheet to log all my support issues. With this, I can determine the effectiveness of MadCap support and its value on the contract's anniversary.

Re: Flare CRASHED!
Hello Dave,
My experience with Flare to date (from v2) is that it's the only application I use that I expect to crash/hang.
That is similar to what I told MadCap support. Although it is still a little early (I've only used Flare for four weeks now), those two software crashes last week were the ...

Documentation workflows (and Jira)
Hello all,
This is OT but I hope I'll be forgiven since there is no general forum for talking about documentation.
Is anyone using Jira for documentation sign-offs and overall workflow?
I've built a workflow based on best practices of what has worked for me. In my new job, we use Jira for ...

Thanks everyone!
My post on Friday was a bit more reactionary than my comfortable level. Usually, I say think than post.
On the other hand, three weeks in, six bug reports, and two crashes led to question the stability of Flare 9.11.

Okay, I can put up with finding one bug every two days... I am happy as long as I have a work-around. So far, so good on that front.
But what I cannot accept is unreliable software! Especially software that I staked my reputation on and convinced my company to spend just under $2000 (after being ...

Re: Flare annoyances - Undo/Auto Save are poorly implemented!
I've just submitted a bug. By one of life's bizarre coincidences, I found this for myself today as well.
I'd encourage you to do the same, as the meore people who report it, the more likely it will be to get fixed.
I submitted this earlier this morning.
I still love Flare but it concerns me ...

Re: Flare annoyances - Undo/Auto Save are poorly implemented!
When you say switching between XML editor and text editor, do you mean working on a topic in "normal" mode then opening the same topic in the Internal Text Editor in a separate tab, or do you mean you have the design/code split feature enabled and you're clicking back and forth between the two ...

Re: Flare annoyances - Undo/Auto Save are poorly implemented!
Hi Lisa,
I can't speak to the example you gave. However, if you follow my example of making some edits in the XML editor, clicking the Text Editor tab, then making a few more changes. When you switch back to the XML editor, the undo buffer is cleared and you cannot undo.

Yes, but that's probably your "welcome" page, so that was the first topic to actually invoke (load) the stylesheet.
I'm surprised you didn't get an error when you were editing the stylesheet and left it as color #. Did you edit the stylesheet outside of Flare? I seem to recall Flare will throw an ...

Re: Flare annoyances - Undo/Auto Save are poorly implemented!
Ok, I'm a little confused. Flare has undo capabilities in the XML Editor. I don't know as though it works in a target file, for example, but it works on topics and the stylesheet in the Internal Text Editor view. And you can undo multiple changes, just like in other programs. (I just made a simple ...

Re: Flare 9.11 - unhelpful error messages
I should also add that the error, CSS: D:\Flare_Projects\InstallGuide\Content\NetworkOverview.htm: CSS: Invalid color: # might even be inaccurate. At first glace, it appears to indicate that the problem is within NetworkOverview.htm when in fact, it was a global issue in the stylesheet.

Re: Flare 9.11 - unhelpful error messages
Besides Flare giving me a rather unhelpful message (okay - fair enough, it did narrow the error down to the stylesheet ), my other two biggest issues about this is:
1) Why didn't Flare's stylesheet editor highlight the error?
2) I paid for MadCap Analyzer and I was disappointed that it didn't ...

Flare 9.11 - unhelpful error messages
Our corporate colors just changed... so easy enough, I edit the stylesheet a search/replace (in Notepad ++) with the new color value.
Shortly after, I found myself locked out of editing in the XML editor. Every time I attempted to type some text, I message would appear in the Messages box, " CSS: D ...

Source control (git) and using the CLI
Tomorrow, I am beginning a project to automate document builds. This will involve:
1. Pulling the latest project from git
2. Copying the project into a Windows 2008 R2 server folder
3. Running Madbuild CLI via a batch file to output both a HTML5 and a PDF document

Re: Footnotes - adjusting the space between the # and comment?
FYI,
MadCap support answered my question.
The solution is in the MadCap|footnote style, mc-footnote-format property. Format the numbering as {n} to automatically number the footnotes, then you can add any other characters (including a space) to modify the look, so "{n} " will add one space after ...

Here is the scenario...

Since I have Auto-Save Documents turned on (for every 15 minutes), I found out the hard way that my experimental changes will become permanent after 15 minutes. This is truly ...
