Re: Flare css puzzles and questions

I am finding it extremely frustrating that when I make a change to one medium (e.g. print), there is no option to 'clone' that change across to other mediums (e.g. non-print, default). Though my only output (at the moment) is PDF, eventually I do plan to output to ePub and/or some web format. BUT ...

Re: Flare css puzzles and questions

Happy Friday Marjorie,

Thank you so much for your great response. I truly appreciate your thoughts and I am inclined to agree with you.

I can't help but feel frustrated that something so core to Flare and Flare being so mature (@v9) that the css editor would be so poorly designed; assuming that ...

I want to duplicate all the properties of a bullet class

The default li bullet style is perfectly set for numbered bullets. But I need a couple of classes of this style to take care of a few other bullet types I require (namely (A), (B), etc. and other modified types).

If I right-click on li and select Add Class , type "bullet_bracket_letters", it Flare ...

Feel free to post any complaints that you have, but you may be more successful with it when reporting this as a bug here

If there really is a means to get the necessary codecs in place without installing a bunch of junk then that is clearly the way ...

Re: How do I set Capture v6.x to auto start (Startup) in Win7?

Drag the shortcut in the startup program group. The only other option is to write a batch file that starts the app with any parameters needed and create a scheduled task that runs on login.
You can also use task scheduler to add Capture as a start-up task. Probably the Microsoft preferred method ...

New installation warning! (Windows x Codec Pack)

[Don't worry... I'm not a newbie that will constantly be posting complaints. ]

Inexplicably, MadCap recommends installing the Windows 7 Codec Pack in order to obtain a MP3 encoder codec. Worse, MadCap doesn't bother to warn unsuspecting customers that, if you're not careful, this pack will ...

How do I set Capture v6.x to auto start (Startup) in Win7?

Hello all,

Short of dragging a shortcut into the StartUp menu (not even certain that would work), is there any way to force Capture to auto start with Windows?

I found nothing in either the online help nor the PDF documents.

Thank you.

Re: Installing Mimic 7

Were you able to solve this?

I ran into an issue when I tried to select the HTML5 Property Option of MP4 Format, and MadCap directed me hear to install a free encoder: http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/

I did that, but I have no idea where the ffmpeg file was installed, and so can't configure the ...

8. The page numbers are roman numerals. Why and how do I change this?

I'm going on memory, so bear with me. You change that in the TOC. For the book at which the pages will reset to page 1, open that TOC item for editing. I'm not sure which tab it'll be one, but look for the Page Number controls ...

9. For each .htm (discrete 'chunk'), I expect automatic page breaks. However, when I publish to PDF, all the pages are printed without any page breaks.

Re: Madbuild madness

I have never used an automated build so I'm not familiar with the syntax. BUT I know that if you want to specify where the documents are placed, you have to create a Destination .

So I would suggest: create a destination in your project that points to the location where you want the PDFs to be ...

Question about the wonderful world of reusable content

Another newbie question...

I am building documentation (mostly PDF output - for now), consisting of:
quick start guide
user manual
performance guide
white papers

What are best practices on how to store these projects?

In the old days (before Flare), I would create a separate folder for each of ...

Re: Error when attempting to change font size of footnote

That's definitely not a normal error. Although you successfully edited the CSS, are the in-line changes that you originally attempted to make to the footnote still there? You can try and remove them by selecting the footnote block and then using the "Unformat" button on the Home tab (in the Font ...

Re: Error when attempting to change font size of footnote

I definitely must get used to editing the css.

So, I went and searched for the footnote font in the css. I 'successfully' changed the font size and color.

Still, that pop-up error message probably should not happen?

Error when attempting to change font size of footnote

Hello all,

Is this a bug?

I inserted a footnote but was disappointed to find that Flare uses the current font size and color for footnotes (not normal behavior - in my experience). When I attempted to change the font size, of the footnote number, from 20pt to 8pt, MadCap popped up the error ...

Preface
I have customized some of the styles, such as "h1". The style h1 is used for headers and it includes an underline. It is mostly used at the top of a page but in some cases, I wish to use this style more than once on a page. The problem is that when I use it, Flare is ...

Re: Tough go with transitioning to Flare

In regards to bullets

I guessed that I need to change the style of the bullet (li) to:
font = as is
size = as is
style = as is
etc.

But after I save the Bookstyles.css and test it on a bullet list, the font and size still change! Going back into the style settings for (li), I see that it is back ...
