Re: Database disk image is malformed - HELP!

Nita, this just occurred (3x since upgrading to the v11 branch) in my Flare v11.1.

As per the earlier suggestion, I will first remove everything below /Analyzer and /Output (and if present, everything under /FileSync and /SourceControl), then reopen Flare. I will also post a ticket with MadCap ...

Re: Why does Flare use absolute paths instead of relative?

OT but speaking of paths, I do have a weird one...

For PDF publication, I have attached a link to the table of contents on the logo that appears in the footer of a Global Project Linked page layout.

The code is:

<xhtml:td xhtml:style="text-align: left;padding-left: 2px;padding-right: 2px;padding ...

Re: Why does Flare use absolute paths instead of relative?

A full path to an external file makes sense to me - we use that to point to general policies etc on a server and they are not relative once the project is built and published.

If you link to a file within your project why are you setting it as an external link anyway? If you use "Insert Hyperlink ...

Re: Setting header in pagelayout for sub-sections within top

I thought I was being clever by using the system variable Level6 (First H6 on page), which is an unused header. I set it up with a small font and white text (so it was 'invisible') and I published... it worked, I could now control the page header in sub-sections!

EXCEPT there is a big caveat!

I ...

Setting page layout header for sub-sections within topic

Greetings all,

I am having some difficulties with using the system variable Title (aka Title of Topic).

After placing this variable in the header of my Page Layout, I thought that by setting the topic name by adding the following to each topic...

<head>
<title>Topic Title</title>

Re: Why does Flare use absolute paths instead of relative?

Hello Wil,

Thanks for your reply. I think I should have clarified that this happens only under certain circumstances because it isn't a consistent problem.

I decided to actually determine when it happens and it turns out that that absolute links are captured when using Insert Hyperlink > Link to ...

Why does Flare use absolute paths instead of relative?

I've noticed this undesirable behavior before and even though it hasn't bit me yet, I can see this being a problem if I need portable Flare source files.

I just inserted a link to another topic in the same document and noticed that Flare recorded it as an absolute path:

Re: Topic Toolbar Proxy in HTML5 Top Nav not showing Prev &

It wouldn't be that difficult to generate the links automatically if you know a bit of Javascript.

For example, a script could read in the TOC from either a copy of the fltoc (XML) file, or from a TOC proxy inserted in a topic.
Then it could check the current topic filename in that, and calculate ...

Re: git (without ssh) :(

I am becoming quite frustrated over this.

The impression I get from MadCap is that they seem to consider git support done/checked off their list of supported featured. In reality, most organizations use (or should use) git with SSH enabled.

Re: Topic Toolbar Proxy in HTML5 Top Nav not showing Prev &

I agree 101% with you sdcinvan, "Next topic" and ""Previous topic" would be really useful in HTML5 Top Nav output and I just cannot understand why it's not supported in Flare.

If anybody finds a way to include a "next topic" link at the end of a topic (apart from the obvious manual hyperlink in ...

Re: Flare 11 build process

My HTML5 target builds went from about 1-2 minutes (with Flare 10) to 5-6 minutes (with Flare 11). Same project, no major changes, just topic edits here and there.

MadCap Support zipped my project and built it in 1/2 the time. These are the suggestions they gave me for reducing build times. I'm ...

Update: I restarted Firefox with a clean profile... favicon worked! :)
Shut down and restarted Firefox in my working profile and found that the favicon now appears in the tab. Problem solved! :)

Update 2: Definitely a workstation/browser-side issue.

Thanks for your assist Ramon! :)

Re: favicons? No longer used?

Favicons get cached by the browser. I suggest clearing the cache and trying again. Only then it is possible to make a verdict. It might have worked for IE11 because that is typically the browser that people use the least.

Thanks Ramon,

Within a few minutes of posting that message, I realized ...

favicons? No longer used?

Hello all,

I hope everyone had a good Christmas/holiday rest.

Sorry about the restriction about how soon you can post after a prior post. Meantime, MadCap tightened the controls so ...

Re: Table of figures is displaying without the figure values

IMO, your client is missing the point of the online docs (which was my original problem, too!); they were never meant to be duplicates. If they want an exact match to the print version, then publishing the doc as a PDF converted for web viewing (Scrib style) might be all they require. Flare's HTML ...

Re: Table of figures is displaying without the figure values

Hi Shawn,
autonumbers in HTML5 output for most scenario's doesn't sound like a useful addition. E.g. in your list you have the Figure 6-n, where I guess that the 6 refers to a chapter. HTML5 output isn't about chapters, so what will the number mean to the user? I can see some use in numbering ...
