Re: Can not install Flare 12

I've had this problem with the Flare 2021 releases. None of them will install for me. It always goes to Setup Cancelled before the progress bars show any progress.
A thing I noticed is that the Flare 2021 installers aren't signed. All the previous ones through 2020 r3 7685 were signed by MadCap.

Re: Using Contributor with an SME

We faced extreme resistance from developers to install contributor on their machines. In fact, the only one who ever did install it was that guy who makes overly specific suggestions about how to write content in documentation when he doesn't know how to write documentation well enough to make good ...

Re: Scaling publication of articles with Salesforce Integrat

Make a Cloud tag, a Client tag, and a Draft tag. Apply the draft tag to new topics when you create them. When they are ready to publish remove the draft tag and apply whichever other tag applies.
Make a target for all your client release notes, one for all your cloud release notes, and one for draft ...

Re: Syntax for Flare Variable in Javascript

Generally, no. The Javascript has to use what it has access to on the page at run time. The variable's definition is hidden away inside some other file which is not even part of the finished web site, and is only added to the page if you reference it in an HTML tag in the source file for the page ...

Try making a fake heading style, a p class with the formatting of your headings, to apply to those Content and Version headings, so the real body heading is the first one on the page.

* In a lot of my projects, content is created and managed in Word.

This is the problem, and you are always going to have difficulties when this is the case.
Here, we dealt with this with a bunch of Python scripts I wrote to convert the stuff that came out of Word imports into what it should ...

Re: TOC should reflect user security profiles

If you are setting the security profile by actually changing Windows permissions, then it may be possible to hide/show content by applying those same permissions within the help, assuming the help exists as files locally installed on the user's machine. CHM and server-based HTML5 allow dynamic, run ...

Re: How to insert a Camtasia video that has table of content

In such a case, Camtasia should generate an HTML file and javascript to build the TOC you want. Try importing that HTML file and letting Flare grab all the other resources and do the conversion (if necessary) to an XHTML topic.

Re: Using Snippets or Micro-Content for CSH?

Snippets themselves are not topics, and don't generate something in the output that you can link to. However, you can create a topic that just contains the snippet, assign an alias and number to it, and use that for CSH. You can also put bookmarks within a topic that contains a bunch of content to ...

Re: Linking Landing page with no skin to Help topics with sk

All of the landing page stuff should go in one project which uses skinless HTML5 output, or maybe Clean XHTML.

The 8 links from the second landing pages that go to the actual help will be external links - you'll specify the link just like you were linking to an external web site. Alternatively, you ...

Re: Is it possible to associate topics with page layout bodi

You can use page layout breaks in the TOC to switch from one page layout to another for particular topics.
However, if you put more than one body frame on a page in a page layout, I'm pretty sure that Flare just fills one and then the other. I don't think there's a way to put multiple body frames on ...

In each Target, in the Variables tab, you redefine any variables that need to have ...

Re: Formatting the letters in a lettered ordered list

Should be the same as formatting the labels on any other ordered list. You have two options.

Use Flare autonumbers instead of the HTML default labeling, and you can set a span style which gets applied to the autonumber.
Always use paragraph tags in your list items, and use complex selectors on ...

I think yonit-b wants to make the togglers behave like radio buttons. I've seen that request before in this forum but I don't recall seeing a good answer. The only real way to make this work is to do some custom scripting.
