I hope you haven't interpreted my post to mean that it's not possible.... I'm just saying that I too can't figure it out. I decided to cut my lost time and just let it go...

You won't like my answer: I want this, too, but I too can't get it to work. I don't recall now what I tried, but I eventually gave up. And I agree with you that the index formatting in general leaves something to be desired.

I forgot to mention.... In the Find and Replace window, also select "Whole project" (or something like that; I don't have Flare running) from the (what's it called?) drop-down list so that Flare will search through your whole project. Otherwise, it'll just search in the current document.

You can make this kind of global change using the Internal Text Editor. First open a topic (could be any topic, frankly) and switch to the Internal Text Editor so you're viewing the source code. Then, in the Find and Replace window, make sure to select the "Find in source code" option. Finally ...

I'm taking a stab in the dark here... but should the "C" parameter be "CH"? As you did, I checked out the Flare Help to see some examples. Your auto-number definitions do indeed look identical to the Help examples... with the exception of "C". If you try "CH", what results do you get?

The MadCap folks have put callout functionality in MadCap Capture. You can open the image in Capture (or even take the screencapture with Capture, if you're talking about a screen image) and add all the callouts you like ...

And let me add this: You'll find various discussions regarding tables of contents in the Printed Documentation forum, rather than in the Procedural Steps, Tips and Tricks forum. For instance, there was a discussion recently on how to get the contents topic itself NOT to appear in the generated table ...

It's not hard. Here's what to do in Flare 5 (generally; for detailed instructions, check out the Flare Help system).

1) Add a topic to your project that will be hold the contents. (I typically call this topic "contents.htm".) On the Add New Topic window, be sure to select the TopicForTOC ...
