Re: Printing the HTM Ouput

Ah, a MUCH more thorough reply from Lisa than I would've gotten around to!

Just an aside...

The XML Editor will base its appearance on the stylesheet that is defined in the Project Properties screen, by default. If that screen is set to "default", then I believe it goes with whichever stylesheet ...

Re: stacked stylesheets by import?

I do what you're asking about, and it's worked very nicely.

I have a global project in which a "global" stylesheet resides. In my product-specific child projects, there are product-specific style sheets that are linked to the global stylesheet. All the product-specific stylesheets have in them are ...

Re: Printing the HTM Ouput

I just tried to use this medium thing to the <img> tag. I have large graphics -- some 10 inches wide -- and I want the full graphic to appear in the HTM file so that trainers can show it. However, that same graphic has to be a maximum length of 6 inches for printed output. I changed the <img> tag ...

Re: Printing the HTM Ouput

Right. So long as you have styles with the same names defined in each style sheet, you'll be fine, even if some styles are "empty." For instance, in my PDF style sheet, I have a style called p.Indented with properties for indenting a paragraph. That same p.Indented style in my Help style sheet will ...

Re: Printing the HTM Ouput

Not only is this possible, this is, in fact, what is happening.

I suggest that you have separate style sheets for your PDF target and your Help target and don't use mediums at all.

First, and as is always a best practice, make a backup copy of your entire project to play around in, so that you don ...

Re: How to align paragraph numbers with bottom and not with top

Unfortunately for me at least, I don't think this solution will work. I don't use <p> classes with auto-numbers for my procedure steps and other lists. I just use <li> items within ordered lists (so I get numbers) or unordered lists (so I get bullets). The mc-auto-number class, format, offest, and ...

Re: How to distribute Madcap movie viewer?

If you're going to deliver your movie in the MadCap Movie format, then, yes, your users will need to download and install the MadCap Movie viewer. They can download it from MadCap directly from http://madcapsoftware.com/downloads/redistributables.aspx . I don't know if it's possible for you to ...

Re: How to align paragraph numbers with bottom and not with top

I am having exactly the same problem, with no luck from mucking around with the vertical-align property of the image. (And I see that there was a posting about the same problem a year ago: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7343&p=41082&hilit=vertical+alignment#p41082 .)

You won't like my answer: I want this, too, but I too can't get it to work. I don't recall now what I tried, but I eventually gave up. And I agree with you that the index formatting in general leaves something to be desired.

Re: Editing concept entries

I forgot to mention.... In the Find and Replace window, also select "Whole project" (or something like that; I don't have Flare running) from the (what's it called?) drop-down list so that Flare will search through your whole project. Otherwise, it'll just search in the current document.

Re: Editing concept entries

You can make this kind of global change using the Internal Text Editor. First open a topic (could be any topic, frankly) and switch to the Internal Text Editor so you're viewing the source code. Then, in the Find and Replace window, make sure to select the "Find in source code" option. Finally ...

Re: Chapter numbering using heading style autonumbers

I'm taking a stab in the dark here... but should the "C" parameter be "CH"? As you did, I checked out the Flare Help to see some examples. Your auto-number definitions do indeed look identical to the Help examples... with the exception of "C". If you try "CH", what results do you get?

Re: Are folks using the Analyzer link checking?

Yes, I use Analyzer often (and for more than checking broken links). My projects range from 125 to 600 topics each.

I do use it for checking broken links, but bear in mind that the links it may find to be broken aren't necessarily hyperlinks from one topic to another. They could be links from one ...

Re: Drawing Call Outs in Flare - Possible?

Flare itself doesn't have the capability of adding/editing callouts to images.

The MadCap folks have put callout functionality in MadCap Capture. You can open the image in Capture (or even take the screencapture with Capture, if you're talking about a screen image) and add all the callouts you like ...

Welcome!

It's not hard. Here's what to do in Flare 5 (generally; for detailed instructions, check out the Flare Help system).

(Quoting MadCap:) Widow / orphan controls do not come into play at all in a situation where the content in your topic is organized into many different tags, each with only one or two lines of text, as is the case here.

Ian, without being able to see how you've got your content organized, it's ...

Re: Create 2nd TOC or use condition tags?

Either approach will work, but I would advise separate TOCs. It's just easier that way for you to see the forest for the trees.

There are two different ways to quickly make the second TOC:

-- Make a copy of the full guide's TOC and then edit it by deleting the items that don't apply to the Quick ...
