None of my p.TOC1 etc. styles have any of the page-break attributes (before, after or inside) set.
Graham, have you checked to see that your TOC2 style doesn't have its page-break-before attribute set to avoid? That would make all of those TOC2 entries keep trying to avoid a page break, so the ...

Re: Previous/Next Topic buttons
I created a browse sequence that links to my TOC. The buttons seem to work fine until I click a link within a topic, or on a TOC link.
I'm trying to understand what you mean. If your output is WebHelp, you don't need to create a browse sequence at all, and even if you did, how is it that you ...

Re: How do I edit a callout on an image that's been reopened?
Could the problem be that the file has to be saved within some sort of Capture Pictures file (as Mimic movies are saved in a folder called Mimic Projects)?
I don't think so. I've got my image files (with their props files) in any old place. So long as they are together, I can edit the callouts ...

NEVER MIND! Weird page break in index of PDF output
NEVER MIND! (lots of egg on face)
Turns out it WAS totally under my control via the .css. I had my p.Index1 style set to avoid a page break after. Once I eliminated that, the index breaks just fine.
Sorry if I alarmed anyone (most of all me...)!

Weird page break in index of PDF output
Morning, all.
I've got something perplexing happening in the index of my PDF output. I'm seeing a totally unnecessary page break in the index when there is plenty of room left for more index entries before the break.
Below is my "picture worth a thousand words" so you can see what I mean. I don't ...

Hi Heidi,
I'm not able to reproduce your problem. I captured a screen, added a few callouts, saved, closed, even exited Capture, restarted Capture, reopened the image: my callouts were still editable. I could move them. I could edit their text.
But I COULD force your problem to appear if I deleted ...

Hi Helen,
I can confirm what you're seeing. I too have a Master Project, Slave Project, a List of Figures and List of Tables, and am outputting to PDF.
In V5, the List of Figures and List of Tables are not being rendered properly when I output to PDF. The styles I've set up for them do indeed ...

Omigosh! Sorry I wasn't as smart as Lisa to try this before I posted.
Lisa, I copied a variable string out of a TOC entry and pasted it into an index entry (via the Index Entry winow) and, voila, it worked in the generated index of my PDF output and in my WebHelp output.

Are variables in index entries possible?
Is it possible to use variables in index entries?
I searched the forums but found no answer, and I searched the Flare help but found nothing to suggest that it's possible.
If it is possible, I'm just looking to be pointed in the right direction.

Re: Embedded help in a "Ruby on Rails" web application
Thanks, Ryan. I'm psychic: I already sent the developer the Flare help topic on WebHelp and CSH. Personally, I think that his application's users will find a WebHelp system much more useful than what he's envisioning anyway. However, he asked the question and I promised to research it.

Re: Embedded help in a "Ruby on Rails" web application
To the best of my understanding, "Ruby on Rails" is the programming language in which the developer is writing the application. He's developing on a Mac, but the application is a web-based application.

Embedded help in a "Ruby on Rails" web application
I've been asked by a client/developer to investigate whether I can provide help content to be embedded in his web application. He's written the application using "Ruby on Rails" technology (which he explains is like "SmallTalk on steroids", if that means anything to any of you) and he uses a ...

Mark,
If I understand your situation correctly, it sounds like you've got one target defined, not two, correct? If that is the case, then alas, I agree that I don't think there's a way for you to get back the prior build.
However, I have a suggestion going forward.

On the basis of your post, I thought I'd test out my own PDF-targetted project in V5. Unfortunately, I see none of the problems you're describing. My PDF looks fine, just as I expected it to look.

Mediums vs. separate stylesheets for single sourcing
I am interested in knowing whether single-source folks are using mediums or separate stylesheets for each deliverable.

Re: Format of index entries, TOC entries
Thanks, Gary, for taking such care in answering my query. I'll check out the posts you've linked.
Thanks, too, Andrea, though I don't think that making my index render in one column rather than two columns will have any bearing on what I'm trying to do. Nonetheless, I do appreciate the help!

Bob, your post is very reassuring. I'm using Flare V4.2. May I ask what version of Captivate you're using? I've got the old V2, so my choices are to go with Mimic 3, go with Captivate 2, or upgrade to Captivate 4 (which I'd rather not do right now if I can help it).
