Re: Merged cells in tables ignored in Word

Thanks for the reply - I'll do as you suggest and file a bug report. I am using Word 2013 and Flare 11, but perhaps it's the sheer size of the table that's causing problems. Agree about the need for post publication macros, I have a growing set of my own.

The problem with tables is that I can't ...

Merged cells in tables ignored in Word

I have some tables with a number of merged cells. When I publish to Word, the merges are ignored. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether they are rowspans or colspans. I can't see anything wrong with the table markup in Flare, and it renders fine in HTML output.

Is this a known issue? Is ...

Hello jjw,

Just curious, are you using the git integration? Without ssh support?

I was using the Flare integration. I can manage without the ssh support ...

Re: Has anyone migrated to the Git integration?

I was just prompted for credentials (for Bitbucket) when the need arose, and they were then stored. You don't seem to be able to configure them in advance.

I had a few performance issues after integrating a Flare project with git. I don't know if it was the git integration that caused the problems ...

Re: Updating Links

You could well be right, but because the symptoms are so vague and difficult to reproduce it's hard to pin the cause down, or to submit a meaningful bug report. The only diagnostic information I have is that I removed the link to git (by editing the project file), and the application is now working ...

Re: Updating Links

I would have, but it's hard to know what to say that would be helpful in replicating the problem. I didn't receive any error messages - it would just hang or try to do the same thing over and over. And, since it was a Flare 10 project, it wasn't a nice, clean start.

So I'm not sure that reporting ...

Re: Updating Links

The Analyzer folder was not under source control (nor were the Output or the Project/Users folders). That's why it wasn't in the project when I pulled it down and I didn't think that deleting it would solve the problem. I did try deleting it later, but it didn't solve the problem.

As time went on ...

Re: Version 11 script loading changes

Ah - yes I was using the toolbar proxy in the Master page - but the toolbar.js (or its new incarnation) did not load on the page in version 11. I presume that's because the toolbar component now has its own skin? I notice that toolbar.js is now called <skin name>.js.

I agree that there are better ...

Re: Updating Links

Well I was enjoying the walk - but yes I did close it down.

I wondered if it might be the Analyser database, but I had recently pulled down the repository (without the analyser folder) so I assumed it would be OK. Will try your suggestion next week.

Thanks,

Updating links when renaming or moving a topic seems insanely slow in Flare 11. Maybe I'll go for a walk around the block ...

Version 11 script loading changes

I noticed that there is a change to how scripts are loaded in the tripane skin in version 11. It used to be that toolbar.js would load both in the main page head and also in the topic page head. It no longer seems to load in the topic page head. (Toolbar.js has also changed its name, but that isn't ...

Re: Calling Flare Using an Encoded Hash Symbol

One workaround would be to create hyperlinks for the pdf output that have a target frame of, say, "New window" or "Parent frame". Then the hyperlinks don't contain any hashes.

If you really need to load the whole help frameset you could maybe use javascript to redirect to the frameset after ...

Re: How to identify snippets in output

Div tags seem to work to some extent in Word.

For example, here's a snippet:
<body>
<div class="red">
This text is in a snippet wrapped in a red div and has no p tags.
<p>This text is in the snippet but has p tags around it</p>
</div>
</body>

And here's what's in the stylesheet:
div.red ...

Re: How to identify snippets in output

Actually, now I come to think of it, the div solution won't work for snippet texts in any output because Flare strips all block elements out of a snippet text as soon as you put it inline inside a topic (gave me an awful scare when I started using Flare). It will only work for snippet blocks ...

Re: How to identify snippets in output

As far as I can tell, the snippet no longer exists in the output. Everything inside the snippet body tags is just substituted for the snippet text or snippet block place holder. So the only thing I can think of is to put something into the body of every snippet that you could style in the output ...

I have been publishing a draft version of my documentation that incorporates 'Easy Page Comments' in the master page:

Strange cross reference behaviour

I've been using cross-references of class "TopicPage' in my web output. In the relevant stylesheet, the cross-reference class is set to display as '{paratext}' and this has been working just fine until yesterday.

Yesterday, I put a drop-down note for reviewers onto my html master page with some ...

It seems like a bad idea to use a snippet for sentence fragments. For one thing, if you ever need to translate the material, you might find that sentences don't fragment the same way in different languages.

Re: Colored Borders Appear Black in HTML5 Output

I see that in your stylesheet you have something similar to:

color: black;
border-color:red;
border: solid, 1px;

The "border" property allows you to set several border properties in one place including the color. If you don't specify a border color there, it gets set anyway - to the default ...

Re: Images appear in PDF but not Word Output

It's a bit kludgy, but what I did was to add the cover page background image to the cover page header in Flare. The image is added as an inline shape, so to push it into the background I used a macro to:
- Convert it from an inline shape to a shape
- Change the wrap format type to "wrap behind ...

Re: Adding a button or link to the right of breadcrumbs

You could add a script to your HTML master page body something like:

Code: Select all

$(document).ready(function() {
      $('[class^=MCBreadcrumbsBox]').append('<div class="supportLink">Yadda yadda yadda</div>');
});
And then create a style for div.supportLink to make it float right.
