Re: PDF Links Do Not Work
Can you see what's wrong with the links? I have a problem where I link to external Word documents in Word output, but Flare consistently creates a link with one too many levels (eg. "..\..\file.doc" instead of "..\file.doc"). I wonder if it's the same problem?

This seemed quite good:

I particularly liked the file comparison tools - but I only used it briefly because my stingy work wouldn't fork out the $39. Bah humbug.

Re: Publishing a Flare HTML project on Confluence
You can paste your generated html into a Confluence page manually using the HTML macro. Confluence will retain your classes so you could refer to a stylesheet for the space (or just use inline styles). However, there would be a few problems to deal with:

Re: Link to zip file from PDF output does not work
jjw, where do you put your mydoc.doc file, and what is your link to it? I put the zip files in the subfolder under "Content" where I have all my topic files; the link is just the zip file name. Should I be putting the zip files somewhere else?

Re: Link to zip file from PDF output does not work
I have the same problem with Word output - Flare renders the link to a document anywhere in the local file structure incorrectly. In particular, I find that it consistently puts one too many levels in the link - for example, if the link should be "../mydoc.doc", Flare will render it as "../../mydoc ...

Re: Need help with regular expression to remove span tags
My 12-year-old broke his arm Saturday afternoon and I've been a little tunnel-focused on him until we got it in a cast Tuesday.
Yikes, I don't think there's a regex for that.
I have also used the Kaizen plugin and it's good. I forgot to reinstall it when I moved to a different computer, so I ...

Re: Need help with regular expression to remove span tags
Well the reference group (the stuff in the brackets) in my search string will match anything after the opening span tag until it gets to the first "</span>", so as long as you don't have nested spans it shouldn't matter what's inside the span.
The brackets capture a group that you can refer to ...

Re: Need help with regular expression to remove span tags
It's probably easier to search for the whole span and then replace it with the part between the opening and closing tags. So your search string would be:
<span class="glossException">(.+?)</span>
And you would replace it with the contents of the brackets which in Flare would be (I think):
\1

Re: Creating scrolling web pages with multiple topics
So let me see if I understand correctly... if you want one long scrolling web page in Flare with multiple topics on that page, the only way is to turn to those topics into snippets and insert them into one topic?

Flare on AWS Workspace or App Stream?
Has anyone set up Flare on an AWS Workspace or via AWS App Streaming? I'm wondering if it is feasible. Hoping to have it accessible on my iPad Pro while I'm travelling.

Re: Reusing Excel content in Flare
I don't think you could use the Flare import tool directly to pick out specific rows. You would have to do some pre-processing in Excel to mirror the rows and columns you wanted on a different worksheet and then import that worksheet.

Re: Shouldn't this basic javascript work in a topic?
Would this be accurate? When it is a function, then I use the Insert Script, but when it is just the button, like in your first example, I just put it in the text editor within a paragraph.
No, you can define a function inline - like this say (not using script tags):

Re: Shouldn't this basic javascript work in a topic?
It's not complaining about there being unmatched brackets, it's complaining because you've put html tags inside your script tag. You don't have to use a script tag because your javascript is inline (in the onclick attribute). You can just put this in your topic (in the text editor):
<p>

I use the Maphilight jQuery plugin (http://davidlynch.org/projects/maphilight/docs/) for styling image maps. I don't know if I'd call it awesome, but it does the job.

Re: Best practice single source
If you are building html output, you can configure how the subtoc is merged when the output is built. The options are on the Advanced tab of the subtoc properties. I usually choose to replace the node with the merged toc.

You can also include tocs within other tocs - I find this useful for modules that are shared across different products. This is good for when I'm updating documentation for that module and I need to add the changes to all the supertocs.

Re: Background images in Word output
Yes this is annoying. I worked around the problem by adding a regular image to the page layout (not a background image). The image ends up as an inline-shape in Word where I use a macro to convert it into a shape, tweak the size and layout, and float it behind the text. Kind of a pain though.

Bad hyperlinks in Word
I have some links to external Word documents that are rendered inside my Word output from Flare. I've noticed that 2017 R3 is not rendering these links correctly.
For example, a hyperlink created in Flare that looks like this:

Yeah that's weird - I'd say it's just a Flare bug. It seems to be looking for any previous list and not just the previous ordered list.the original question still remains unanswered. The position "3" above was not manually set to that value

Re: Create snippets for an entire topic
You could just copy the topic and change the file extension to "flsnp".
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like the only difference between a snippet and a topic is the file extension and the fact that the head section has a title tag. In any case, the head section is discarded when the snippet is ...

Re: Insert images directly into TOC
AFAIK, it's just not possible to link a TOC entry to an image file directly.
FYI you can put image files (and pdfs) in a TOC - for online output anyway.
As Nita says, anything you directly link to from a topic will be included whether it's in the toc or not, but it can be a problem if you want ...

Re: Snippets as table rows? Well, I never...
Can you/anyone remember why snippets as table rows are problematic?
I can imagine that it would be a problem having invalid html in the source topic - like a table that contains an element (the snippet element) that doesn't belong in a table.
