Re: Adding links to topics/bookmarks in other projects
What I do for cross references for partial PDFs is I created two condition sets: "Doc Type" and "Not Doc Type." So, I have a Main Manual, and it has its own "Doc Type.Main Manual" condition and a "Not Doc Type. Not Main Manual" condition created for it. Every other document that I produce has its own ...

Re: MadCap Software Flare V11 Released
Response from Tech Help solved my issue. Posting in case it helps someone else. It was apparently unrelated to the update, though it happened at the same time as Flare 11 was released:

Re: MadCap Software Flare V11 Released
Flare seems to be hanging while trying to update. Is anyone else getting this error, or am I just lucky? I was able to 10.0, 10.1, and 10.2 without any issues in the past, so I'm not sure what's changed.
I'm also contacting Support, but thought I'd check here also.

The only way I know of of launching Javascript sort of natively from Flare is covered in Dave Lee's excellent guide .

Yes, you're understanding how my PDFs can be searched for anyway. All I can really share with you on the subject is my own experience. I don't know much about PDFs and search results specifically, other than where to find more info in the flare help.

Re: PDF's not opening in HTML5 or Webhelp output in IE8
Glad you were able to bypass the PDF download issue.
The way I have my PDF downloads set up is a link in the page footer, much like in the Advanced HTML5 template. There is a "more PDF downloads" page, which includes all relevant PDFs, and that comes up in my search results just fine, for what it's ...

Re: PDF's not opening in HTML5 or Webhelp output in IE8
Oh god, I just got done with wrestling with this. Took most of a day. I'm willing to bet you have the " Mark of the Web " option selected in your target, which is causing this issue.
Having the Mark of the Web is, on the whole, good. The problem is that it prohibits links to "external" files, such ...

Re: Stop MC from creating another version of the CSS
Well, I don't know the real answer. What I do is I just delete the new Styles1.css and click "remove the links" when Flare prompts me. Because each target has a default stylesheet, that's the last of the issue for me. A bit of a pain, but easy enough.

Re: HTML5 publish
Usually, if a filename is too long, then you'll get an error that says that specifically. Sometimes the content explorer just misses fixing some links; I've yet to work out the details. Snippets are especially prone to breaking for me as well, so I don't think it's a file name length issue ...

Re: My HTML5 TOC is scrambled in one target but not in the o
I'd check to make sure that your ToC file isn't conditioned with one of the excluded conditions. More broadly, I'd make sure that none of the conditions that you are excluding are applied at the file or folder level where you're not expecting them to be. Keep in mind that if you apply a condition to ...

Re: Expand All
Using an expand-all button and drop-down headers (should) not interfere with your print output in any way. The Expand-all button appears only in the web skin, and the dropdowns are invisible to print output (I use them myself in a topic that I also distribute in PDF and Word).

Re: Getting a table in a div
Setting up complex selectors to handle indenting is also a good idea, and maybe even a better one. Personally speaking, I know that having drop down text areas can make using Divs for other purposes much more complicated.

Don't bookmark anchors automatically update? I was in the impression that they just automatically grabbed the nearby text. I don't think the in-screen display updates until you edit it and relink to the same place, but I thought that it automatically grabbed the correct information on output ...

I am no expert in this, but I can help a little maybe.

Exclude footer from search?
Apparently, words that appear only in the footer (created by a master page, as in the Advanced HTML5 Template) are included in searches. Normally, this is not a problem because much more relevant pages appear first, but if the user searches for a subject that is not heavily covered by the WebHelp ...

There is a native Flare Slideshow that was introduced in 10.0 also. That might be worth checking out, though it would not solve your problem.

In general, based on my primitive understanding, CSS code that is later in the stylesheet has higher priority.

I'm right there with you in the "more love for Capture" bandwagon. It could be such a huge, gamge-changing asset for Flare if they just invested some time into it. As it is, it is still quite useful.

I saw a pretty good thread on this topic recently. It seems to be a difficult task, and the way to do it is with a script.

So, I currently generate Word and PDF output simultaneously, mostly for document review reasons. It's actually not all that much of a pain in the butt if you set things up properly.
