Are image sub-folders a bad idea?

So, I've been merrily documenting with Capture (ish), and when I went to review my output I've noticed that the images in my PDF output are sometimes the wrong image, but they are correct in the XML editor, preview, and online output. In the internal text editor, the filepath is correct. Right ...

Re: Formatting Cross Reference

A simple solution would be just to include the title of the figure in the cross-reference text too, yes? So it would read "See Figure 1-1: Figure Title" and all would look normal.

That's what I do with my exercise numbers which use a final semicolon as part of their style.

Re: mc-hidden vs mc-disabled

I submitted a related request, but it more focused on being able to customize shortcuts and to provide a more universal, user-configurable shortcut system.

The "favorite styles" menu is pretty sweet, though. I like that idea quite a bit... especially if it came with built in shortcuts (ctrl-1 ...

Re: IMG class not appearing in UI

Final update

Response from MadCap is below, for the curious:

Thanks for the additional information. Currently, only styles that are "block" elements display in the Styles Windows as block styles, and additionally "inline" elements will display in the available span styles. I have submitted a ...

Re: IMG class not appearing in UI

Thanks for your efforts, Choccie! I had some time to mess with this, though, and I found the bug!

A CSS sheet as simple as the one below in a sample project caused the bug, so it was nothing to do with mediums or anything else. For some reason I cannot fathom, it is the display: inline ...

Re: IMG class not appearing in UI

I only added mc-hidden after the issue occurred in an attempt to fix it. I could probably take that out again, but I doubt it would help (especially since the class does appear in the right-click context menu).

Dave: yes, there is only one instance of img.Toolbar in my CSS. I posted the relevant ...

Re: mc-hidden vs mc-disabled

My general rule is to NEVER disable a base, unclassed tag. I think that helps you avoid at least 90% of issues. Also, keep in mind if something weird happens to think about the disabled styles first.

Re: IMG class not appearing in UI

I only have one Toolbar, but the base IMG tag seemed to be in the Print medium as opposed to default. I cut and pasted both up out of non-print and into Default, but it did not work.

Dave, that is definitely not the issue, though I appreciate all suggestions. The IMG tag and every other class of ...

Re: mc-hidden vs mc-disabled

using the Options- Disabled dialog in the Stylesheet has worked for me. I'm not using this on any "mc" styles or any unclassed "base" tags, and it's been working well for me. No issues so far.

Not sure why mc-hidden isn't working for you, though. That's kind of weird; I'm pretty sure it worked for ...

Re: IMG class not appearing in UI

Update : So, while the "Toolbar" class does not appear as an option in the Styles drop-down or in the Styles accordion pane, it does appear in the right-click context menu under the "Style Class" option when I right-click an image.

This is even stranger, and I think this behavior is definitive ...

Re: IMG class not appearing in UI

I'm not sure if I'm following your instructions properly, but I don't think so kwag.

I tried inserting an image normally, then selecting it and trying to change the class, and that didn't work. I also manually added a blank <img></img> tag to the topic, then linked it to a test image and tried to ...

IMG class not appearing in UI

Okay, so, this is an odd one. I have an image class (Toolbar) that is not appearing in the Styles drop-down or in the Styles accordion pane. If I manually add the "class="Toolbar" line using the text editor it works perfectly, which works but is a pain. This occurs in all topics in the project, not ...

Re: creating a summary document with conditions

Not to ask a really dumb question, but is it possible to make the whole System requirements document a single snippet, and place the same snippet in both topics? The big system requirement document would have to all be in one topic, but it would work, I think.

You would have to tag everything that ...

Re: MadCap Capture: Do you use it?

Hey, all, thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely check out Snagit just to see what my options are. I suspect there might be some times when using an outside tool can be helpful (I was using Greenshot on account of it being free previously, but it's pretty limited).

MadCap Capture: Do you use it?

Okay, so, who here uses Capture, and who doesn't?

The mixture of awesome and... well, awful, in this product is driving me insane. It's too handy to get rid of (conditionalized/variable-enhanced callouts? Yes please!) and it's too terrible to keep (the inability to scale text or even vector ...

Capture saving images in wrong file

So, I have the wonderfully unrenamable/undeletable "My Profile" set to save new captures to C:\blahblah\Images\_W, but it just saves the image to C:\blahblah\Images instead.

Copying the filepath string from the Output Folder field of the profile opens the expected folder properly in Windows ...

Re: Conditional text underlined in PDF

Look at the MadCap:conditionalText style in the stylesheet maybe (in default and all other mediums if necessary). Does it have a text-decoration: underline there? Try explicitly setting text-decoration: none in case it's inheriting an underline from some bizarre place.

That's my guess anyway.

Re: single-sourcing images for PDF and WebHelp

As far as standards, I'm not really sure either, but you can figure something out that works for you I'm sure.

Max width only caps the image if the image would be bigger than the listed size (see http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_dim_max-width.asp. For info on the units, see http://www.w3schools ...

Re: single-sourcing images for PDF and WebHelp

Well, I'm hardly an expert on images (it's what I'm struggling with mightily right now myself), but what I'm planning on doing in this situation is to use CSS mediums (the "print", "non-print", and "default" mediums to differentiate between how the images display for web and for PDF. Maybe you've ...

Wow, thanks for the excellent feedback LTinker and Dave. I'd never heard of the + (or ~) selectors, so I'll mess around with them some but it sounds like that might not solve my issues for PDF.

Re: Preview Print Output and conditioned images

The very leftmost button in the XML editor toolbar (looks like a magnifying glass) allows you to preview as any target. Just click the down arrow next to it and a list of your targets appears.

This isn't always perfect (the only way to be really sure is to build it) but it helps.
