Re: WebHelp links to PDF/Excel files not opening in IE

I'm willing to bet you have the "Mark of the Web" option selected in your target, which is causing this issue.

Having the Mark of the Web is, on the whole, good. The problem is that it prohibits links to "external" files, such as your Excel files or PDFs. The way I solved this was by adding the ...

Re: Online topics flow together? Impossible?

Yes, generally speaking, whenever you find yourself systematically copying and pasting large amounts of content, you should stop and re-evaluate your methods. Flare is designed to prevent exactly that sort of situation, so there is almost always a better way. Posting on the forums is definitely a ...

Re: Bizarre Chrome iOS display issue

Okay, so, I got to the bottom of this one, I think. Sharing in case anyone else comes across this craziness in the future.

Adding the following CSS to the stylesheet linked through the toolbar solved it for some reason (and also got the last of my touchscreen scrolling woes):

div#contentBodyInner ...

Bizarre Chrome iOS display issue

Hello all, this one has me stumped.

I've been on an epic quest to have a decent mobile display for my (HTML5 tripane) webhelp lately. I had to do a complete redesign of my CSS layout to get things to work on an iPhone to switch from fixed layout for the breadcrumbs/page footer to an absolute ...

Re: Word Docs to Flare

Stripping out the auto-numbering created by multi-level list styles is super important. I also remove the header/footers. A ctrl-f for ^b and ^m does the trick, but make sure not to accidentally delete a stupid Word paragraph tag. Regardless, there will be cleanup of Word formatting. That's just how ...

Try this maybe. In the PDF target's advanced tab, there's an option called "Include non-TOC bookmarks in the bookmarks pane." Make sure that is unchecked.

Re: toggle text appears in PDF output unless conditioned

CCX, I think there are two possible solutions to your caption issue.

You can use more than one skin in the same project. Just copy it, make any necessary changes, and then link each target to the appropriate skin. The downside to this is that you are then maintaining multiple skins, and if you ...

Re: Word output - Table of Contents

Yeah, this is definitely a bug I think. The PDF and Word TOCs should match. What I'm suggesting is just a workaround.

Not sure if it's ever been reported. If someone is particularly annoyed at this and feeling enterprising, feel free to submit it by all means.

Re: Conditional tags not working for content in one folder

No problem! Good solution.

For what it's worth, I suspect that your difficulties deleting the PROPS file were directly related to the cause of the original problem. I think TFS was retaining a previous version of that PROPS file and was sneaking it back in secretly somehow, messing things up.

Re: Conditional tags not working for content in one folder

In this case, I think that you would need to delete it separately in both Windows and in TFS, and you might have to do some jiggering to make sure that Windows and TFS agree that the file should be deleted so it stays deleted. If you have issues with this, you might want to ask whatever local ...

I don't know exactly what's going on, but this should help shed some light on the subject. First off, try closing and reopening Flare. Sometimes that helps.

Re: Flare v11 (and earlier) - Editor pet peeves

Huh, I usually use the Ctrl-F2 keyboard shortcut. I didn't know that button was also there, thanks.

When you switch between the Text and the XML view, it also always requires you to save, even if you didn't make any changes. I believe this changes the update date, which seems like a big deal for ...

Re: Word output - Table of Contents

Okay, so it's been a while since I dealt with this, so I may be a little off. The short answer is I think this is controlled by the "mc-leader-offset" attribute of the p.TOC1, p.TOC2 styles etc. I found a value of -45pt worked pretty well for me. The issue is that this attribute is also used by the ...

Re: Flare v11 (and earlier) - Editor pet peeves

Yes, saving between editor versions is odd/awful, and does not inspire trust for sure. The line synchronization could also definitely be better, though like Dave, I've found making sure you have actual text highlighted helps hugely.

The related issue that bothers me the most is the lack of "Text ...

Re: Is there a hack to display Style lists in plain text?

I agree, it would be amazing to have that option. I know what my H1 looks like by now, thank you very much. I don't need it showing up in my list in all its glory. The stupid way that Flare lets negative indents push the text off to the left so that the style name is illegible is particularly ...

Re: Word Mini-Tocs Missing Items

Hi Nita,

It's a good idea, and I'll check it out further and report back. However, I do use Master Pages for my Word output, so it (should) be ignoring the page layout formatting. Also, I'd expect this to be similarly (or even more) messed up in the PDF layout if this was a page layout issue ...

Re: Merged cells in tables ignored in Word

Hrm, if it's a machine specific issue, try doing the following standard Madcap troubleshooting steps:

First, please verify the version of .NET framework installed on the machine. With Flare V11, you should have at least Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1.

Once you locate the version, I would like ...

Word Mini-Tocs Missing Items

So, I've found no sign of this issue anywhere on the forums, but it's been driving me nuts off and on for the past year.

I use Mini-Tocs (depth 2, no other custom styling, "Use TOC Depth" enabled) on my chapter splash pages. For almost all of the chapter pages, only the first one or two items in ...

Re: Merged cells in tables ignored in Word

Hrm, I was using Word 2010, though it seems unlikely that was the cause. Of course, if you can determine exactly what makes the bug reproducible, it will be much much more likely to be fixed.

Wrapping it in the paragraph tag may be kludgy, but I think it will do the trick. If you don't want a ...

Try using the XML multiline comment tag inside the script tag. Javascript should ignore the comment tag and it should hide the offending line from Flare.

Re: Merged cells in tables ignored in Word

Hi jjw.

This seems like it is probably a bug. I have not heard of this specific bug with tables with Word output, but it is not surprising. The Flare Word output is exceptionally buggy, and Word tables are a haphazard beast in their own right.

In general, for Word output bugs this is my usual ...

Re: Put the Breadcrumbs Proxy in the Toolbar - HTML5

To configure the roughly 50 px margin at the top, I think you can use the following code in your toolbar-linked CSS. I think you can set the height in pixels of the blank area by changing the number here:

top: 4 px;

div.buttons.toolbar-buttons
{
display: none;
}

div#contentBodyInner
{

Re: Put the Breadcrumbs Proxy in the Toolbar - HTML5

Kwag, based on my understanding, you can't truly add the breadcrumb proxy to the toolbar. It is part of the Topic, not the Skin, which means that it can be controlled only by the actual Flare CSS, not the javascript-linked CSS in the toolbar. That's just my understanding; Dave Lee would know for ...

Re: Put the Breadcrumbs Proxy in the Toolbar - HTML5

Kwag, I'm assuming that you saw Dave Lee's magnificent guide on customizing the HTML output. If not, check that out.

Using that technique to link a stylesheet, I added the following script to the skin's toolbar:

$('<link>')
.appendTo($('head'))
.attr({type: 'text/css', rel: 'stylesheet ...
