Re: list of each blurb tagged with a condition
Thanks, Paul. Great idea! Thanks for the detailed guidance.
What would you recommend for showing or hiding the span class? I need to create a new CSS medium, correct?
(wish I could use conditions and show/hide via target instead....)

Re: list of each blurb tagged with a condition
Hi Paul, Thanks for the idea, but the requirement identifiers are currently tagged as conditional text only. To follow your approach, I would need to use styles instead of (or in addition to?) conditions to tag requirement identifiers. I guess I could change my tagging approach and define the style ...

Re: list of each blurb tagged with a condition
Thanks for your question, René.
The requirements are in a separate document. Only the requirement identifiers are noted in the user guide.
For example, see the following snapshot. The identifier is the "CR" number at the end of paragraph. This CR number is conditionally tagged to be removed ...

Thanks for the ideas.
Maybe I should approach the problem differently - maybe a list of conditioned items is too limiting a notion. What I want to do is generate a compliance copy of the user guide or other document that indexes each requirement. I'm sure this is a common task for technical ...

list of each blurb tagged with a condition
I would like to generate a list of each blurb in the output that is tagged with a condition. The purpose is requirements traceability. I imagine this is a common need for technical writers. Any suggestions out there?

Re: Flare 10.2 download
I have a proxy issue that prevents updates from showing up in the start page. I tried Help > Check for Updates but it said "no updates are available" - probably because of the proxy issue. The IT department and MadCap tech support were both looking at the issue but it did not resolve

span or generic class?
When defining a character format tag in a stylesheet, is there a best practice for making it span instead of generic class? (or vice versa)
Which is better - span or generic class?
Span class example:
span.Emphasis
{
font-weight: bold;
}
Generic class example:
.Emphasis

Re: Splitting up a project stylesheet?
I have been using @import url ('stylesheet2.css'); for a while and it's working great.
a) I have not tried medium-specific stylesheets yet.
b) I have not had to consider very many web browsers because the Help I create is on-board the device only (IE 7 on Windows).

Re: Master Stylesheets
As long as we’re talking about CSS best practices, here’s a question for those of you who translate content.
Do you separate the localizable text as a separate stylesheet? Strings “Chapter,†“Figure,†“Table,†“on page†for xrefs, and so on.

SOLVED: Re: square-root symbol does not show up in PDF
Tech support suggested I try #f7f7f7 instead of pure white, and it works! The symbol shows up. Not sure what the deal is with pure white, but I'll go ahead and update my table styles to use #f7f7f7.

Re: square-root symbol does not show up in PDF
Thanks, Steve! I am not able to install Adobe Reader for some reason to do with my Adobe Creative Cloud membership. The PDF generated by Tech Support shows the symbol when viewed on my computer. The PDF generated by me does not show the symbol when viewed on my computer or theirs.

Update with new learnings:
* The crop and registration marks do not break the bar code except by shrinking its size. (The PDFs I rebuilt with a much larger size of bar code scanned fine, with or without crop and registration marks.)

Re: page-break-before: avoid - not honored (not table)
Thanks, Paul and Psider!
I want captions to avoid page breaks before, but not after, because only a few captions are followed by legends.
I went ahead and created a div class "NoPageBreak" with page-break-inside: avoid and wrapped the content accordingly.
I wonder if this is a best practice?

page-break-before: avoid - not honored (not table)
I want to keep the figure image, caption, and legend together on the same page in PDF outputs. Most figures don't have legends, so I did not code the caption style to avoid page breaks after. Instead I have coded both caption and legend to avoid page breaks before. But the setting is not honored ...

Re: table caption width vs. table width
Thanks, Marjorie. I want the table caption to use the full width of the page rather than be constrained by the width of the table. I wonder if this is possible. Do you know?
