Re: Removing glossary term defs from search result abstract

Hi there,

Just to let you know, Flare support confirmed that this is a bug. Unfortunately, this means that we will have to drop using glossary term links in our output because we need readable search result abstract text. We don't have time manually fix this for each topic by putting in meta ...

Hi Dave,

Thanks very much for that. At least I know now that it should work so it must be down to my user error that it is not.

MadCap | dropDown style and the display: none property

Hi all,

Does the "MadCap | dropDown" style with the "display: none" property set work in a Medium: print?
This property seems to work in the default medium for HTML output but not in the print medium for our PDF output.

thanks,

Re: Example: Customising the HTML5 tripane skin

Hi Dave,

Thanks very much for this post, really good. I just have a minor question. I wanted to add an external link to the logo and I found another post of yours on how to do this with some jQuery script. So I opened the skin Toolbar tab, and clicked Edit and added the following additional code ...

Analyzer newbie question around unused bookmarks

Hi there,

We have imported a lot of content from Framemaker to a Flare project. When I use Analyzer, it states that there are over 5000 Unused Bookmarks in the project. My questions are:
Is it okay to remove these unused bookmarks?
Is there any performance advantage to removing unused bookmarks ...

Re: Responsive Images not available?

Hi there,

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to your issue, but I would also like to know how you make images responsive if anybody knows?
We have a lot of screenshots in our documentation so I don't know whether I should do something to make them responsive or (if the screenshots are just not ...

Re: Large images displaying below mini-toc in top navigation

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that. I will try your Div container suggestion. What I wanted to happen was for the image to automatically resize to fit with a mini toc rather than being pushed below the mini toc.

thanks,

Large images displaying below mini-toc in top navigation

Hi there,

This is probably a very basic question. We are using the top-navigation HTML5 output for our documentation. If I have a large image on certain topics, it gets pushed below the mini-toc (see attached), which creates a large space between the topic text and the image. Is there any way to ...

Re: Using and applying conditional tags?

When I attended Flare basic training a few months back, the trainer suggested that it is better to select the Exclude option to exclude any conditional tagged content that you do not want in your output. Then by default, anything you have not excluded would be included by default.
The original ...

Excluding topics from search in HTML output

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before. My understanding is that (by default), any topic in the Content Explorer is searchable in HTML output, irrespective of whether the topic is in the table of contents. Is it correct that the only way to exclude a topic from search is by doing the following ...

Applying conditional text to graphics - best practice

Hi all,

Is it best practice to apply conditional text to graphics within a topic or should you apply conditional text to the actual graphics files in Content Explorer?

For example, if I have a topic that includes two graphics and each graphic has different conditional text applied to cater for two ...

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that, sounds like a plan. If we went with that, is there any way to have the "Home" link displaying on every page except for the Home page itself?

thanks,

Include an additional "Home" link in the top navigation head

Hi all,

We are attempting to deliver a top-navigation output in Flare and we need to include an additional "Home" link in the header tool bar that points towards the home page of the flare output (see attached for what the link might look like in Flare's own online help output). We are aware that ...

Applying condition tags within paragraphs - best practice?

Hi there,

At a recent Flare training course, we were told how to apply condition tags to topics, folders. paragraphs, and images. It looks like you can also apply condition tags to selected text in a paragraph.

Is it best practice to only apply condition tags to paragraphs or is it okay to also ...

Issue with setting a "Next" style with mc-next-tag

Hi all,

Sorry if this is a basic question. The Flare Styles Guide mentions that "You can specify that a particular style should be used when you press Enter at the end of the current style."

If I am on a paragraph style class and I want the next style to be the paragraph style, it does not seem to ...

Thumbnails for large graphics issue

Hi there,

I have set our images (most are screenshots) to display as thumbnails and have set the mc-thumbnail property to popup . For most of our images, this works fine. However, we have some large images (for example, 920 w x 1284 h pixels) and they do not display at full size in a popup. It ...
