Any way to install Flare 11 & still use Flare 10 by default?
I'm installing 11 to see what it's like, but I want to keep my production projects in 10 for a while. But installing 11 seems to have blown away Flare 10 as a default for Flare programs and there's no way to get it back. In fact, if I right-click on a project, there is only one Flare icon as a ...

Re: Deleted Files Still Show Up
What we've found with svn is that doing a delete and then a check in all from Flare doesn't commit the delete. We've been going outside Flare and using another tool (command line or tortoise) to actually commit the delete.

The dread "object reference not set to an instance of an object" error can strike any time. It's a .NET error that is being bubbled up by Flare.

Re: Flare is automatically applying autonumbering to bullets
At this point, I usually open my stylesheet in a text editor such as Notepad++ and see what's going on there. Possibly something strange happened to styles during the import. If you can find all the references to ol, ul, and li in the style sheet and post those sections of the css for us, someone ...

Re: Need to exclude a portion of a topic
I agree with Nita, except for things like filenames and commands, which don't need to be localized. We have a bunch of things like folder/folder/filename[-pro] where -pro is there or not depending on the version of the product. In other cases it might be filename[-pro] or filename[-ce], depending on ...

There is a Paste Inline text feature:
When you paste your text, a clipboard icon shows at the end of the paste. Right-click and select Paste Inline Text. Then apply the pre tag to ensure spaces and tabbing show up correctly.

Re: Missing Linked File - but No Link
We have a number of phantom links that show up in our reports. I have become suspicious of the top-level .flprj file, which keeps a list of all files and their location in source control and may not be updated on checkin. I am also suspicious of import files, which keep lists of components. I can't ...

Re: Cross referencing to a step within a topic
I believe the only way to do this is to use bookmarks. We have a naming convention for bookmarks, where the bookmark name says what kind of bookmark it is, so a table bookmark begins with table-; similarly figure-, step-. Bookmarks for headings do not have extra text. This makes the list a little ...

Re: Missing page numbers in PDF output.
I did a test & it looks as though the page layout only has page numbers on even pages. Since this happens with both the 7x9 layouts and the 8x11 layouts, it might even be a "feature". To fix it for 8x11 (for example), go to Content > Resources > Page Layouts >8_5X11 and open each layout you are ...

The two components work together.

But where is the chapter number defined? It could be anything. It isn't defined in the CSS. Instead, it's defined in the properties for the chapter in the TOC (what you are ...

Re: auto numbering help
A couple of things. First, in the editor, Flare is always going to give things like 1.0.1, because it acts as though the topic you are on is the only topic in the world. This is also the case with web-based output. However, I assume you are having this problem when you build a print output, such as ...

Re: Failed to open startup file: ref to undeclared entity 'n
The "startup" file is most likely the project file. I was able to get this exact error by going into a .flrpj file and adding a non-breaking space

I think you mean Chapter Number, not Page Number, yes?
For the second appendix, choose Increment. Then choose Format (A,B,C) [next to Reset to] That should work.

Re: Question -- Why does Flare generate table classes?
I believe Flare does this to support elaborate table styling - for example, different colored rows and columns. If you create a standalone table style sheet (in the Resources/Table folder) Flare creates all those weird styles for you.

I don't know how it would have happened, but it sounds as though Flare might be resizing the graphic file. Make a copy of the layout, try deleting the (background?) image and reinserting it.

Re: Errors After Moving Files in Content Explorer
I've found flare to have trouble checking in Deletes in svn. And a move in SVN is just a Delete + an Add.
A frequent problem is you create a file (generates an Add in svn), don't check it in, rename it (generates a delete and a new add). Then when you go to check in, all of these actions are still ...

2 pieces. The easy one first.

You can make a separate class for non-numbered captions.

Right-click and create a new class, like NoNumber.

Re: Problems creating "header" column in tables
Thanks, that is helpful. I've found that mixing formatting in the Table.css and Project.css can give interesting results. In this case, if there is a paragraph in the header column, it resets my font style to the font of the general text & not to the font which is set in the table.

Problems creating "header" column in tables
I'm trying to create a "header" column format that I could use when for the first column in a table in some cases. I have successfully done this for rows. Re: How do I change to a different source control?
I use svn, so things may be different, but I can change the checkout location by opening the .flprj in an external text editor such as Notepad++, and modifying the source control line:
