I'm using Flare 11, with HTML5- tripane skin
What I am trying to do is write my own styles for the Table of Contents part to the left of the ouput.
I created a stylesheet and linked to it in the Target properties > General > Master stylesheet.
I wrote this in the stylesheet:
#toc.tabs-panel ...

Thanks to RamonS and David. I've done a mock-up based on tripane, I'll use the points you made to back up the assessment that it won't affect SEO.

Is Topnav better for SEO than Tripane?
This seems to be implied by Madcap's communication, and it appears to be a belief shared by top brass in my company.
Yet what I read about it seems to contradict that. For example, on this forum, StraygoatWriting said

Re: adding custom content above the TOC
Thanks Dave!
I found that by adding the following (indented) at the end of Example 1 in your ModCap.flskn, I could insert content where I wanted to, ie below the header and above the TOC:
/* Example 1 ...*/
$(document).ready(function(){
...
$("#home").after("<p>ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ</p>");
});

adding custom content above the TOC
Hi all,
Based on a tri-pane skin I would like to add some custom content above the TOC and below the header. Specifically I want the TOC to contain info about the guides describing one product, and above the TOC I want to have a drop-down listing the available products. How could I achieve that? I ...

Is Tripane old-fashioned? Is Top nav hype?
I know Tripane output is derided as old-fashioned, but I have a couple of issues with Top Navigation (correct me if I'm wrong):
* with Top navigation, there's no expand/collapse in the TOC (at least out of the box). This may be desirable for some users, but it means if you want to move around the ...

Google search with auto-redirect to topic+TOC
If you are using the Tripane output, here are a couple of lines of javascript you can add to your masterpage to make the TOC appear automatically if the reader found your topic via Google in the web:
<script>$(document).ready(function(){
if($('.MCWebHelpFramesetLinkTop').is(":visible")){
window ...

Re: Link to project/target failed
I've since tried to do the same with a project created based on the Empty skin, this also outputs the same error message. It sounds to me as if there's some serious technical limitation preventing you from doing this. I'll try it with TriPane to see if it works there...

Link to project/target failed
Hi,
I'm trying to create a website experience combining tech documentation with other types of content (downloads, forums, etc).
I created a project using the Top Navigation (advanced) template.

Re: Second-level topics take 1st level place
Thanks, that solved it.
Actually I had already encountered that option and vaguely knew there was a check box somewhere, but couldn't remember where or what label it had.
I find it rather confusing. They should at least re-think the label.

Second-level topics take 1st level place
I copied a chapter from one guide TOC to another. When I build a PDF or Word target linked to the destination TOC, the sub-topics of the chapter appear as level-1 chapters. WHen I print an HTML target the sub-topics are in the right place.
In the Printed Output tab of the main chapter, I have a ...

Re: keep tabs for topics, search, build... inside single win
Seems to work... What had me confused is you have to repeat the operation of moving the tabs from the second pane, for each different type of open document - such as search > open search result, build, double click in TOC. Once all that is done and saved, you get all your tabs in a single pane.

keep tabs for topics, search, build... inside single window
Every time I do a search or a build I get a second pane under the topics pane. Same happens when I select View in TOC. I want to keep a single pane in the middle, with new items appearing as tabs - just like in a browser. This gives more vertical space. I sometimes move all the new tabs to the ...

Re: Using Macros to assign keyboard shortcuts to styles
Really cool, and very useful when you have lots of formatting to do in a page.
A pity they didn't put the keyboard shortcuts directly in the macro manager. Adding a simple macro+shortcut looks like a complete visit of the Flare interface...

Things are looking a bit better. Someone advised me to delete the existing output folder and kill any process related to Acrobat reader in the task manager. Seems to work

Re: Help - can't start flare after user change
Hi Nita,
I'm a bit confused about tech support. I've been searching on the web site and I find stuff about gold/platinum support plans (I don't think we have those) and my colleagues aren't very clear either.
Is there an email address that anyone with a license can contact?
Francis

Help - can't start flare after user change
The IT people did a user change on my PC and now I get a message asking for my license code. I am then asked to enter the activation code. When I do that I'm told the activations are already used.
I can't log on as my previous user any more.

I have the same issue...
"Support resolved this. " > how?
Flare tells me my license is already activated. My machine has changed names. I can't go back to log in as the previous user. How can I erase the previous activation? Is there a file somewhere I can delete?
