Re: Google Chrome and WebHelp output

We have just discovered this issue during testing. I don't have the time or inclination to jump through hoops to get it to work with Chrome, so I will also be adding a "don't use Chrome" warning.

Re: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Thank you very much for the suggestion! I had recently disabled some styles, so I was hopeful. Unfortunately, it still didn't work. I will contact tech support as well, before I waste any more time on this one.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Of course, Murphy's Law says that right after I rave about this on Twitter, it won't work...

I successfully output a huge project to a WebHelp Mobile target a month or so ago. When I just tried to recompile it, I'm getting the dreaded and decidedly unhelpful error "Object reference not set to an ...

Re: Flare wrapping lines in unusual places

Thanks Greg, for your suggestions. I did try the word wrap button and it only affects the "normal" lines.

Good thought: I'm now wondering whether the affected topics were ones that were reviewed/changed using Flare's X-Edit tool. If so, I guess that could be the culprit if the topics are not ...

Re: Flare wrapping lines in unusual places

Thanks for your response. Yes, the lines appear the same in both UltraEdit and Notepad.

I believe the Lingo "lingo" is differences , although I don't use the product. Our translators compare projects from version to version of our software. These short lines register as a "change".

Flare wrapping lines in unusual places

I have seen a few similar topics to this (under "short lines" posts) but nothing exactly like what we are seeing.

One of our company partners uses Flare/Lingo to translate our documentation for each release. They noticed that some lines in quite a few topics were wrapping in strange places. This ...

Re: Flare truncates output .doc filenames to 16 char

Thanks for your quick response, Margaret.

I have tried a few tests and the outcome is always 16 characters or less. I have worked around it for now by renaming the affected files, but will keep it in mind to file as a bug (or feature request, depending on how they view it!).

Flare truncates output .doc filenames to 16 char

I'm producing multiple (400+) Word documents from a Flare 6.1 project.

For some reason, Flare truncates the output .doc filenames to 16 characters. I'm hoping I'm just missing a setting somewhere because it's getting tiresome having to rename the affected files.

Anyone have experience with this ...

Yes, of course that makes sense...and I thought I had tried everything. I had actually worked around the problem, but I just tried what you suggested and it worked perfectly. Thank you, Greg!

Dead link to external chm

Has anyone else had issues linking to external chm files that were not created with Flare?

I have a project with two links (in the main TOC) to external chm files. One external chm was created with Flare, and one was created with RoboHelp for FrameMaker (long story).

When I compile my main ...

Re: Network error mesage

Thanks Petra for the information.

I have never seen a built-in IM feature that a) doesn't call itself that, and b) causes you to think that the application is not working properly. If we did that with our software, our support people would be running for the hills!

We also do not use Exchange ...

Re: Network error mesage

I, too, get this message all the time. I work on my laptop at work, unplug it, and then plug it in at home to continue working. That's generally when I see the message -- but I also see it if my Internet connection at home goes down, which it does more often than it should.

It doesn't generally ...

Re: Edit > Find and Replace > Find in Files error

I think Madcap Support must hold the record for fastest response times.

This is what they suggested (it worked).

Reset the Window layout for Flare. In the Toolbar, click Window > Layouts > Reset Window layout.
Also, close all documents (Window > Close All Documents)
Perform the Search and ...

Re: Edit > Find and Replace > Find in Files error

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply. The error appears as soon as I choose "Find in Files" so I don't even get anywhere. Yes, it happens in all my projects.

The Find and Replace window disabled fields seemed to be okay after I restarted Flare a couple of times; however, now Flare crashes (unhandled ...

I recently installed V5 (on XP), and now I receive this error when I choose Edit > Find and Replace > Find in Files

Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

The other search functions work as expected. (Edit: Now they do not! The fields ...

Re: Unhandled Exception Error at startup...

Hello,

I'm wondering whether (or if) you resolved this issue? I upgraded to Flare V5 (which is the only recent change to my system), and now this error appears every time I start up Flare.

Joy
