Re: Remove hyphens from page number | page number format / s

Are you using the standard System.PageNumber variable? The default System.PageNumber variable doesn't include hyphens. For example, I use it in my footer like this:

<p class="footertext">Page <MadCap:variable xhtml:name="System.PageNumber" /></p>

The type of Page numbering itself is defined in the ...

Re: Xref to reused topic goes to the last instance

I don't think so Trish. If your repeated topic was instead a snippet that lived inside various different container topics, you could then link to a specific container instead of the repeated content itself. If you only ever want to do this for the Change Log, you could have two versions of the ...

Re: Set Java path in Flare?

Hi Josh,

I've no idea to be honest. I know I've tried to integrate with different Java components before and had issues. MIght be worth chasing through Flare support to see if there's a config file you can adjust to get things to work for you, or switch out installed components to your preferred ...

Re: Repeating a Heading in a Page Layout Column

I don't think there is any way to do this in Flare beyond the obvious and hand typing in the (cont'd) text you want. You could make a "continued" class of <p> for instance that forces a column break to ensure that it sits at the top of the next column instead of potentially being dragged back to the ...

Re: Incorrect page count

I've not come across this issue before, but it might be a pagination issue as the PDF gets built. The build process goes in various sequences and page count from memory is one of the early stages. It might be that after page count is calculated there is a page that slightly overflows pushing content ...

Re: Set Java path in Flare?

Hi Josh,

Is this a system thing rather than Flare? Just wondering if the sys path for Java isn't set right (possibly still looking in the Oracle folder) so it's finding the wrong version of Java, or not finding it at all.
In a command prompt what do you get if you type "where java"?
You might ...

Re: Keep different medium styles in same stylesheet or separ

@Paul - viewing multiple media side by side in Flare's stylesheet editor is now officially my favourite thing. Thanks for the tip!

I still find it clunky and non-intuitive for me to edit in the stylesheet editor (my brain just gets how styles work more easily in a text editor), but for seeing what ...

Re: Paranum missing when p's Display attribute set to 'None'

Hi,

I think the variation between proxy and bookmark link is probably due to when in the build process the various links are formed. One probably before the paragraphs are removed, one after. Why they might be done at different times is possibly a quirk of how Flare has evolved. All speculation on ...

Re: Images extending editing area in XML editor

The short answer is that Flare isn't Word.

The XML editor is mostly WYSIWYG bounded by whatever rules defined in the CSS styles and page layouts.

If you set a default "width: 100%;" or "max-width: 100%;" on IMG tags in your stylesheet, the image will be limited to fill 100% of the width of the ...

Re: How do I prevent words from breaking in table cells?

I've had issues with columns needlessly squashing themselves even when no width is set in the <col> tags or stylesheet or tablestyle. It seems that auto width doesn't necessarily always mean adjust to the text inside. What sometimes works for me is to add a column to the table. It seems to force ...

Hi Larry,

I have had issues like this before with other chapters. Suddenly finding some chapter won't put in the empty page to even it out. For me, the solution wasn't in the chapter that was affected by the weird pagination. I had to go through my TOC and make sure that every entry had Auto-end on ...

Not through Flare I'm afraid. Not at the moment anyway. I can see many uses for linking a sub TOC style to a sub heading style so that TOC1.section1 is picked from H1.section1. But the TOC automation doesn't do this at present. Maybe make a feature request for something like this functionaility ...

Re: Superscript in TOC and cross references?

Hi,

I don't think you can add formatting codes to a TOC entry. But you can remove the R from the TOC entry. Slow double click the entry in the TOC and change the default label ([%=System.LinkedTitle%]) to the text of your choice (or Properties and General tab).

As far as keeping a table all on the same page, the only way I know of doing this is to use a DIV around the table. I have a default style defined that I can use wherever I don't want stuff to break across columns or pages:

Re: What is Volume Number?

I'm not sure there is a lot of difference between the three numbering types. They are just three levels of built in numbering that you can use as you want. Logically a Volume is a larger component than a Section, and a Section larger than a Chapter. I don't think it matters to Flare which you use as ...

Re: "Failed to convert to PDF Font:"

Another thank you for this. An upgrade to new computer and I thought copying the fonts directly into the Windows/Fonts folder would be enough. Although Flare will display the font, it cannot embed it in a PDF unless it has been 'installed for all users'. Yet one more upgrade snafu to remember!
