Re: Cannot access the build output folder

Hi,

Yes, definitely an Acrobat issue. One of the processes installed by Adobe alongside Acrobat (adobecollabsync.exe) uses file handles to enable shared reviewing of PDF files. It can sometimes hold the file handle too long, even after the file (and Acrobat itself) is closed, making other ...

Re: Blurred images in A4 but not in letter paper size

If the dimensions of an image are smaller (or larger) than the frame in which they are placed, and css allows it, the image will be resized to fit. If your page frame was 600px wide and the image a multiple or fraction of that (300px, 600px, 1200px, etc) you're likely to get less blurring ...

Re: Blurred images in A4 but not in letter paper size

What are the actual dimensions of the picture and how do they compare to the 674px or 624px? You can hover your mouse over an image in Windows to see the size quickly. Are they a simple multiple or some other fraction?

Re: Blurred images in A4 but not in letter paper size

Hi,

Is the text frame on your A4 layout narrower than the corresponding frame on the letter layout? I suspect it's to do with the rescaling of the image when it goes to print. I try to avoid that where possible by pre-sizing my images to suit the locations outside of Flare. My columns are 90mm so I ...

Assuming you mean the Contents page and not the overall pagination of a document?
I have my TOC proxy embedded in a Contents.htm topic in my document. In the fltoc file, the Printed Output properties are set for that topic as follows:

Re: TOC Links in PDF Output Not Working

I wonder if there's something else going on here? Is there something off about the topic itself? It looks like during the PDF build, the topic hasn't been included correctly and therefore the link cannot be made. The error is like the PDF is looking for a file outside of the document itself.

Is ...

Re: Can't specify File name in PDF Output

Hi,

Hard for me to work out your structure... You've got a target, a TOC that contains a single topic and you're generating the PDF for that topic/TOC? Usually a PDF filename comes from the target in the General tab. Can you force a change via the TOC? The topic should be a Chapter Break style, and ...

Re: Line Height Property in Word is not preserved

Hey,

No, the line spacing multiple means literally that, 1.15 times the single line spacing, which is expressed in points. So there's no conversion between a css definition in ems and the Word line spacing.

Cheers,

Re: Line Height Property in Word is not preserved

Hi Witold,

I think this is because you can't specify line spacing in em measurements in Word.
When you set line-height in points, the measurement is carried over correctly.
You'll have to approximate what the em measurement will be in points.

There's a handy table at https://reeddesign.co.uk ...

Re: Cross reference link does not work in MS WORD output

I think for hyperlinks if you click to the right of the Heading text entry field you can include a variable. Heading.AnyLevel probably is the right one, choosing the first heading on the topic you are linking. Or type the following into the Link Text field: [%=Heading.AnyLevel%]
There are many other ...

Hi Jim,

I can't think of a way to do it without manually coding in the project when a topic is longer than a page. There are many ways to do that, from the basic (physically write "Continued on next page" near where there would be a page break at the bottom of a page of text - you could set the ...

Re: Does anyone have a 2 column page layout to share?

Hi,

Yes, there are just five types of Frame you can use:
Body, Header, Footer, Decoration, Image

Decoration and Image frames are unsupported in Word or Framemaker output.
Each page layout can contain just one Header or Footer frame, but you can have many Body frames.

The only way I can see to ...

Re: Right-align section numbers in TOC (PDF output)

Hi,

The short answer is I don't think you can. Flare uses HTML formatting which doesn't have a concept of tabs or tab stops to align things. Besides that, the heading number becomes part of the heading text which is formatted as a single unit using the p.TOC1 etc styles. I can't even think of a way ...

Re: Relationship proxy creates empty space in PDF output

I suspect it will be a matter of looking at the styles for the proxy and removing or minimising top/bottom spacing. Even though the proxy is empty on the page, it is still present and will take up some space. This is why it gets pushed onto the next page where the preceding element is at the end of ...

I suspect Chuck's original issue, is that for print targets, it doesn't make sense to provide a link to a topic instead of a definition. Madcap says:

Hi,

I've had a play and the only way I can think to make this happen is to add each PDF under a dummy chapter that includes a heading with auto numbering and nothing else (you could use it as a title or cover page for the PDF perhaps). The PDF itself doesn't contain any Flare headings for the TOC ...

Hi,

Yes, what you're seeing is the way it's supposed to work. Use TOC Depth is a useful function where if you are reusing content, the headings will adapt to suit where the topic is placed in the TOC. You don't have to worry so much about rigidly nesting heading levels in the topic - they will ...

Re: Does anyone have a 2 column page layout to share?

Hi Joanna,

It depends what you are trying to achieve. You can't maintain two separate body flows of text but you can simulate the effect in various ways. Here's a few off the top of my head:

- You can create two text frames on a page template and have only one of them as a body frame. This will ...

Re: Mini TOC with more levels than TOC Proxy?

Hi Loryn,

I think you're right. You need to set the mc-heading-level properties for the headings to change the content of a TOC proxy. But you can limit scope using the mc-toc-depth on a mini-toc proxy. Since mc-toc-depth is a property of both types of proxy, it makes sense to me that they'd work ...
