Re: Style not displaying correctly from Page Layout
Hi,
Can you include sections of the stylesheet that define the styles being used and the bits of the page layout that are causing issues? Just to try and nail down where the issue lies. Looks at first glance like the text on the pagelayout isn't using the same style and is using a default font or ...

Re: Centering an image in a table cell
The style seems to work for me in my builds. I'm just wondering if there is an override somewhere? Perhaps the image is contained in a <p> tag that has different formatting, or the table has an overriding tablestyle that changes things?

Re: TOC contains invalid blank entries
Hi,
I've had empty TOC entries and ListOf entries where there is content that overflows the text frame and therefore doesn't get printed. Flare knows there's something on that page, but since the content or heading doesn't land on a page, it can't get the text for the TOC. That was my case anyway ...

Re: Page Layout - MC Heading Level
Awesome, thanks for the display: none hint! I wondered if it might cause the variable to not pick up the heading if it was invisible - might depend on when Flare picks up headings and when it renders for output. Sounds like the former is true and it will get the information before it hides it from ...

Re: Page Layout - MC Heading Level
After a bit of puzzling out, the issue seems to be that the "Title" page layout needs to include a Body frame to get its information from. Without that, the Title layout is disconnected from the rest of the pages that follow and any variables referencing headings on the Title page will be empty ...

Hmmm. trying to puzzle out what you're trying to do.

Re: Page Layout: Background does not fit page
True, but my understanding is that a printed document (PDF) is based on a specific measurement - a physical size to print - and therefore there must be a conversion somewhere from pixels to measurement and hence a dpi. I'm not sure what process Madcap uses to create the PDF as it isn't a distiller ...

Re: Page Layout: Background does not fit page
Hi Paul,
This looks like an image resolution thing. I copied your layout and added a background with dpi of 150 and got a shrunken image on the layout. On a hunch I changed the dpi of the image to 96 and resaved. Because my layout was open it didn't update, so I aligned the background left, then ...

Reconfigure content into a TOC specifically for that output with any additional front and back matter topics.

Re: Project view & PDF Preview do not match Target Build
I've had issues with DIVs and floats in PDF layouts before. In the end I've had to nail down the dimensions of DIVs (in the print medium) to make sure I'm getting what I want in final PDF output. Which can make it a careful balance in specifying sizes so you get great PDF and keeping things flexible ...

Re: Formatting Variables: Only Works Sometimes
This doesn't help that much but it does make it easier to add left/right padding without having to code a snippet per button. If you add the before and after selectors to your element:
css:
.ButtonLD::before, .ButtonLD::after {
content:" ";
background-color: #dcdcdc;
}

Re: Should I create a Word target INSTEAD of PDF?
I produce quite complicated PDF output and haven't found it difficult to work with. Like most things in Flare, in whatever output you choose, there's usually a work around to fix issues, or at worst, make them so you can live with the solution. I do from time to time output to Word so people can ...

Re: PDF Writer: Failed to convert to PDF font: Arial Unicode
Do you have fonts explicitly specified for the body element? There may be a carry over from Flare defaults that causes the issue. Perhaps I'm just a control freak and like to make sure my body pages and all sub elements are defined fonts-wise.

Re: Wrapping Code in PDF Output
Easy. I used the FAR: Find and Replace tool to replace every tab (regex \t) in the relevant folder with four spaces. The line breaks aren't perfect (I wish I could tell Flare that it could wrap at particular characters - e.g before < and after >), but they're definitely good enough.

Re: Wrapping Code in PDF Output
Sounds like it's a bug that MadCap doesn't recognise tabs as part of the HTML and as you say, ignores them in calculations of the width of the column. It doesn't know how wide to allow for a tab. Which is a shame as there is a default value (a whopping 8 chars width) as well as a mechanism in CSS ...

No, all has to be PDF. At least for now. I don't have access to upload an HTML-type output to the chartplotter. They're accepting only PDFs currently.

Hi Vibeke,
Do you have a style defined for <b>? Just wondering because if you don't and your container paragraph style uses something non-standard, you might find issues. What happens if you add a:

Glad to help
I use these a lot and like them because it takes the image formatting from the content and ties it to a style. So much easier to change one style than find all references in your document and change those!

Re: Not printing bottom frame content to PDF
Hi,
I'd try continuing to try to isolate where the issue lies:
Does the footer not display on any of the pages (a left page, a right page, an empty page, a first page), or just one of the types?
If you replace the snippet with plain text in the same style, does that display?
