Re: Reference to Open Sans in Master Page removed in HTML5 o

As it turns out, if you edit a stylesheet in Flare, it adds an unneeded comment at the top of the file, breaking the CSS because @import lines must be at the top of CSS files (bug filed with MadCap).

Are you sure about that? The import lines do need to come before styles, but I don't think they ...

Reference to Open Sans in Master Page removed in HTML5 outpu

Based in part on some of the responses I've received here, I thought I try going the Master Page route. Currently, I'm using Open Sans as my base font. I am using a custom CSS file, and as the first line I had

@import url('http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans');

As it turns out, if ...

Re: Flare hanging when MBP wakes up

I use Flare on a current model iMac under Parallels running in Confluence mode. I have zero problems with Flare 2018 under this setup.

Earlier this year (when still using Flare 2017 r3) I evaluated Flare running under VMWare and Parallels. I concluded that Parallels’ graphics performance was far ...

CSS: CSS: Missing imported CSS stylesheet http://fonts.googl

This message started appearing today:

CSS: CSS: Missing imported CSS stylesheet http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans

The only thing that changed about my project was that I entered a serial number (because we finally got the OK to purchase Flare), meaning I went from demo version that ...

Re: Can I do this in a snippet?

I think that Flare doesn't recognize <figure>.

But you could have snippet that is a div within which are a paragraph block containing the image followed by a paragraph block that offers the figure title with an autonumber, conditioned for print only. So, like this:

<div class="Figure">

Re: Can I do this in a snippet?

I don't think I can. I get a message about invalid XML when I try to save.

Would this work?

<figure>

<MadCap:conditionalText MadCap:conditions="Default.PrintOnly"> MadCap:autonum="Figure 1.1: "</MadCap:conditionalText><figcaption> </figcaption>

Can I do this in a snippet?

Specifically, a snippet that I convert to text upon adding it to a document.

<figure>
<img src="" />
<figcaption<MadCap:conditionalText MadCap:conditions="Default.PrintOnly"> MadCap:autonum="Figure 1.1: "</MadCap:conditionalText>> </figcaption>

Re: Cant firgure out CSS Parser error

Thanks for the tips. (I posted only a fragment of my own CSS, BTW).

We use Font Awesome for some glyphs. I think I'm going to see if I can just import the glyphs that we'll be using. If I'm figuring out the instructions on their page correctly, I can, which as it turns out would be better because ...

Re: Flare hanging when MBP wakes up

I got an interesting email from Madcap support. Seems like there's an issue with "Coherence mode" in Parallels.

Info about what this is: https://kb.parallels.com/en/4670

I installed VMware yesterday, a Flare demo, and moved my test project over there to try it out. So far, no issues like I had ...

Thanks Nita, those look like some very interesting tips.

A FB friend who is using Flare on a team 4x the size of mine (that is, 4 people), said that she thought Central was overkill for her org, and that she just distributes PDFs. Kinda made me rethink whether Central was necessary where I am. So ...

VMware seems to have its own little quirks--although so far not affecting being able to use Flare. Oh for a Mac or SaaS version of Flare........

Re: Flare hanging when MBP wakes up

Thanks for the VM tip. Shouldn't be an issue to give VMware a try. We just happened to have Parallels licenses here, so that was the default go-to.

However, a do have to point out, techie pedant that I am, that to have to shut software down every now and then is an indicator of bad code. Yeah, I ...

Flare hanging when MBP wakes up

This has happened twice now, and it worries me. It does not happen all the time, but both times it happened it did so toward the end of a day, after I had been using Flare for awhile. Here's the behavior:

When I go to a meeting or go to eat in the kitchen, I take my MBP with me. I be checking email ...

Re: Flare output using Macs

I can't address the hamburger menu issue (other than it's a terrible user interface for navigation on non-small screens), but I wonder if the sizing difference has to do with different pixel density across devices. Specifically, what unit are you using to size your graphics in the CSS?

On-the-fly conditional content in Flare online output?

There's a content development tool called ProProfs Knowledge Base, a SaaS tool that I used at my last job. One feature that it offers, and why it's in the consideration mix for the content development tool in my new job, it that it can, at least according to its docs, provide on-the-fly conditional ...

Instructions for reviewers?

I'm testing Flare & Central. I just invited a user as an SME, then from Flare, assigned that user a topic to review. In an existing topic, I added a "Test Section" with some specific instructions in that section, to highlight and comment on a couple of deliberately misspelled words.

I would have ...

Re: matching docs to company fonts - thoughts?

I am curious what you mean by "match the company fonts exactly." And of course I have a couple of thoughts.

First, if it means matching the logo font or the font used in advertising displays, then probably not, for either body text or headings. But if there's a defined body text font the company ...

As this is a peer support forum, your suggestion might not get seen by Madcap developers, so can I suggest that you click the "Feature requests" link in my signature and send it to them that way?

And welcome to the forums, if nobody has said that already. :)

Does MadCap.OpenHelp() function have default values?

In the doc for CSH, the MadCap.OpenHelp() function is described as having 4 parameters: ID, Skin Name, Search String, and First Pick Search String Value. And the examples pretty much all look like this:

MadCap.OpenHelp('Welcome', null, null, null )
MadCap.OpenHelp(1000, null, null, null )
MadCap ...

Output to FrameMaker: quality & requirements

I will be evaluating content development tools to decide on one going forward at my (new) company. Flare bounced up my list when I discovered last night that it has output to FrameMaker source files. But I have a couple of questions/concerns.

What version of FrameMaker are the .FM files produced by ...
