Multiple Indexes?

Is there a way to create multiple indexes? In my case, I just want to pull a list of reports into its own index. But what if I wanted, say, an index for dishes and an index for ingredients?

If this exists in the documentation—by all means, point me to it! The term "multiple indexes" in the Indexes ...

Re: MadCap DropDowns Print Gray Bottom Border Despite Styles

O the embarrassment!

I discovered that my topics were connected to the wrong style sheet. A global search-and-replace inserted the style sheet I've been adjusting, in place of the former master style sheet that I copied last month in case these changes went bad. Even though I set the new styles ...

Re: Saving and linking PDF

I created a folder inside Resources called "Docs"—name as you please.

To save steps, when the PDF opens after building, "Save As" to your version of "Docs." Otherwise the PDF lives in your Output folder, in the subfolder for that target, which is separate from the subfolder for the main target ...

Re: MadCap DropDowns Print Gray Bottom Border Despite Styles

Thanks, @ajturnersurrey, for your response! It hasn't helped so far, but let me be clearer in explaining what I have.

1: Here's a sample of the code. You'll see there are no classes:
<MadCap:dropDown>
<MadCap:dropDownHead>
<MadCap:dropDownHotspot>Current Open Windows</MadCap:dropDownHotspot ...

MadCap DropDowns Print Gray Bottom Border Despite Stylesheet

I'm using MadCap DropDowns in my online help. In the PDF version, there's a gray, 1-pixel bottom-border after each drop-down section. Meaning you see the header, the body, and then a gray horizontal line before the next section begins.

How do I get rid of the horizontal line? I understand how to ...

Re: Best practices using javascript & local help pages

The customer will not be able to change these variables/terms themselves in the built output - you can only change the variables BEFORE you build the target output.

Thanks @DavidLee, in this stage of the development, I will produce just a few different targets using these variables to change key ...

Re: Best practices using javascript & local help pages

Thanks, @devjoe—I appreciate the confirmation!

I will point out that if your terms are used in ways where you may have an article with each one, plurals, etc. that you may need multiple variables to cover all cases.

Yes, I've anticipated that and will alter the text to make it as smooth as ...

Best practices using javascript & local help pages

My company's software lets the customer define certain field labels for their UI. Call that MyTerms. Some MyTerms can be as different as apples and rainclouds—example: "worklist" for one customer and "patient" for another. In our user help, I hope to eventually add JavaScript to grab the customer ...

TIP: dummy "Replace" characters in Find and Replace

I've been going through a nightmare Word import. (Frankly, it would have been faster for me to cut and paste all 600 pages of documentation, including 1500 images, from Word to Flare. Don't get me started!)

Anyhoo...On large-scale find-and-replace actions, I begin of course just FINDING the ...

I'm dealing with this as well, and have been correcting through find-and-replace. Did you enter a bug?

Re: Error! Bookmark not defined

I go through this regularly. It's one of the reasons I'm actually looking forward to working entirely in Flare...should I ever master the mess.

In Word, most people work with the codes hidden, as it would be very distracting to have them show. Also, we usually view field codes as their output, not ...

Left-Nav Template with Footer Kept at Bottom

I'm using Flare's left-nav template, and I also want to have a footer that stays at the very bottom of the page. I can get the footer to the bottom of the page content —but not the bottom of the page as a whole. As a result:

When the page is long, the footer is fine.
When the page is short, the ...

Re: Cells filled with P tags in imported Word table

Thanks! I figured out how to activate that box (create a row or column and click it), and I changed the selector from <p> to none; but the <p> tag remains. I even went into the CSS file using Notepad++ and removed every P reference I could find, but the <p> tags remain in my output. Any suggestions?

Good question, but no—I did check that. Thanks for thinking of it.

Re: Missing styles during mapping

Thanks so much for the great advice on mapping styles using the .flimp file!

Sadly, some of my styles still get left behind when I import my Word doc if I don't want to "Preserve MS Word Styles." I get most of the character styles, but not the strong and em styles. The code is clean of them. What ...

Re: Different heading format for different outputs

You have a couple of options. Have you used stylesheet mediums before?
You can create a new medium for each output you need and set up the autonumbering as needed, and then associate the medium with the target.

Or you could set up separate stylesheets and link them to the output targets as master ...

So what IS the character limit? Is it connected to the "approximate filename length"?

Importing Word images that were added via Insert + Link

Hi, brand-newbie here! On my first test-import of a Word document, all my linked images were imported separately into each topic.

My images were inserted into Word using the "Insert and Link" option, which gave me automatic updates if an icon changed but also let others see the images when editing ...
