Re: What do you think about the Ribbon?
The best way to mitigate the ribbon hunt-n-peck (I had the same issue) is to add all of your most commonly-used tools to the Shortcut bar. They are much easier to access that way -- even with very simple keyboard shortcuts. On the bad side, the icons are very small and often hard to recognize, but ...

Re: Changing Style assigned to a paragraph
Just to make sure it's clear to everyone what's happening, you're not changing the TD into a P tag. Instead, you are nesting one or more P tags inside the TD tag. That's why you couldn't change the TD tag directly (the TD tag must be there in order for it to be a proper table cell).

Re: Graphic-Based Navigation?
Are you going to need to have different conditions available simultaneously? (i.e. within the same image do you need one link to be conditioned for A and a different link conditioned for B?) If not, the simple way to do it would be to add two (or three or five or whatever) copies of the image, each ...

Re: XML Editor - General Use
Just to add to Dave's suggestion, if you hover your mouse over a section of text that has a tag applied, you'll notice a set of boxes appear around the mouse with the tag styles in them. You can click / right click on those boxes to quickly access exactly the tags you need. This can be useful if you ...

Re: Graphic-Based Navigation?
You could do it as an image map (i.e. one image with hotspots defined in Flare) or you could use an image editing program to create slices that are placed into a table. Either method will work, although the first is easier.

Re: Tables always left aligned. I want them centered
Do you mean the table itself, or the text within it?
For the table itself relative to the page, I believe that is actually controlled by the Table tag in the main stylesheet (not the table stylesheet).

Re: Flare as an instructional delivery platform?
Ok, Flare is a help authoring tool, not a delivery tool. You might be able to author the content for what you want in Flare, but Flare is definitely not the application I would have the user run if they need to access assistance.
Flare is a direct competitor to Robohelp, if that makes it clearer.

Re: What do you think about the Ribbon?
To me, ultimately, it's the execution that matters. I don't mind the ribbon as a metaphor, but what I do mind is a) you can't customize it and b) M$ hasn't always put the tools you need in logical places (e.g. why isn't it possible to insert a TOC from the Insert tab of the ribbon? Wouldn't that ...

Re: Converting between hyperlinks and popups
Flare doesn't use javascript to create popups--it puts that information into the target of the hyperlink. If you check the properties of the link, you'll see a dropdown that lets you change what the target will be (popup, new window, etc.)

Re: Autonumbering - Confused
Just as a clarification on the code snippet, for my purposes I have my H1s appearing a 1.0, 2.0, etc. Since you want Chapter 1 (without a following 0) you would want the H1 style to look like this:
HTH.
Code: Select all
mc-auto-number-format: 'a:{n+}{ =0}{ =0}{ =0}';HTH.

Re: hyperlinks in Word output
For print linking, you may want to use cross references instead of hyperlinks. Cross references behave like hyperlinks in online output, but like Word cross refs in the print output. You can also set them up so that they appear differently in each type of output (e.g. for print it could be formatted ...

Re: Autonumbering - Confused
I think it's because of the number sequence definitions. Since you've defined those inside the number selector, you need one in all of them.
Also, I think you're going to get into a confused situation with the second number, since it's not using the same number sequence as the others (it's using C ...

Re: Aren't underlined hyperlinks THE web style usability std
Designers don't like underlines because it spoils the look of the page. That doesn't mean that audiences understand it better, just that it's more visually pleasing.
