Flare stops responding when source control unavailable
Am I the only one who finds it really, really annoying that Flare stops responding if the source control server is unavailable? I mean, I have everything checked out on my local drive, so it shouldn't need to go get anything. I can understand wanting to make sure the source control system is still ...

Re: Source Safe question
That is a good point. Many of us have found that if you build from source files stored through a network share rather than on local drives, the build takes longer.
Having said that, "longer" may not be a problem in some circumstances. For example, if your organization has an automated build server ...

Re: GIF screenshots not readable
You just need to educate them correctly.
Ok, I know what will work: "Switch to Firefox or I'll send David over to lecture you about the evil's of Microsoft!"
(And for the really nasty customers I'll rile ya up first by talking about all the good points of proprietary source control ...

Re: GIF screenshots not readable
And as far as "better formats" go, I prefer PNG. It compresses well, doesn't produce artifacts, and can have as large or as small a colour space as you want. Plus it supports transparency (although IE 6 doesn't render transparent PNGs correctly--Firefox and IE 7 do).

Re: Adding a new Word file to a project
Yes, there is. Open the Project Organizer, right click on Imports and choose Add Word Import File. You can then import any number of Word documents into an existing project.

Re: Page swap, or maybe auto-save?
Is anything else different with the machine than the last one? For example, we recently "upgraded" our virus scanner to Norton's enterprise package, and I find performance of every app on my system is abysmal while it's doing it's automated checking every morning. Once it finishes, everything ...

Re: Source Safe question
In the interests of full disclosure, we're using VSS 6.0 build 8163 (which I understand is - ahem - not exactly the latest version...) Maybe it's an issue with older versions of VSS?

Source Safe question
Hi, all,
I've just been given access to Source Safe and am in the process of adding my Flare projects to them. Whenever I open a folder in VSS that was checked in by Flare, VSS posts an error:
Initialization variable \"Dir\" set to invalid path

True, although it's the same thing you run into with the font, size, colour, etc. buttons in the toolbar. Yes, they work, but in a CSS world they're really bad practice to use.
I'd almost be inclined to request they be removed so that people aren't tempted to use formatting over-rides, but ya just ...

That would work--and would have the added advantage that if you wanted two or more paragraphs to appear in the coloured box, they wouldn't have white gaps between them (if you do it in a p tag there will be gaps between them).
Sadly, it doesn't work in print because Word and Frame don't understand ...

Yes, but please log it yourself as well--apparently the more people complain about something the more seriously Madcap takes the issue. You can log one here:

Unfortunately, you can't do either of those in the current version. Best thing to do is submit it as a feature request:

The big problem I've found is that when I add a table it has inline style code that makes the indent 0. So, when I added an indent to the main stylesheet, nothing happened because the inline style took precedence. My solution has been to remove that inline style code. I'm not sure where it came from ...

Re:
The easiest way is to just open the file in Word and resave it as a .doc file. When I've done that it's always embedded the images in the file. I think there's also a command in Word to change references to embedded instances, but I don't remember it off the top of my head.
Also, you can ...
