Re: Tips for using global project linking for mega projects
I tend to use some preceding characters in the topics of the Master project.
In that way I am able to exclude some topics. In my case I have several projects that use the same stuff, e.g. database grids where I need to explain how someone can deal with that stuff. I named these topics like: dbm ...

Sorry Dave,

I checked it the same way you did and the same result appeared. I copied to another directory and that is not enough. When I looked better I could see it already on the file size of the document.

Re: Resizing Screenshots
Isn't it that when you resize an image, let's say 50% smaller, you have to enlarge the resolution with 100%?
Yes, but that's only for printed output. In the WebHelp output the size will remain the same.
Example of a Word output:

Re: PDF Bookmarks on left side automatically expanded
Hi Jesse,
I put this item into the forum before and it is reported to MadCap.
Right now you have to live with it; that is, remove it using adobe acrobat or create a PDF from a Word output.
I reported also the long building time. See http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... =10&t=7129

Hallo Theresa,
Nice to here that my post helped you. That's where the forum is setup for, isn't it?

First of all I learned it from the sample book as I said before.

I do agree with this tip too, but ..... be aware that the quality of images reduce. Certain type of images will be worse than other types. My advice is to use PNG type images as much as possible.

But ... what you describe is exactly what global linking should do.
You should make up your mind about what should be put in the Global project and become available for all members, and what should be used local; that is, not linked.

That is correct.
Something like that I do with variables.
One set is used for general things like company name, address, etc.
The other one (I named it DocVariables) contain things like document title, software version, Document revision, etc.

A disadvantage is that images you don't use in the project will also be copied to your destination map when you build your output!
I just checked it to be sure that it is.

Hi,
Maybe it helps you:
I use Vista 32bit.
I defined just 1 header frame and on top of that I used decoration frames. I admit that it was a little bit difficult to find out.
I hope it works for you too.

Re: resize image by specificy pixels or other?
Hi,
In Flare v4 you can set the size of an image for on-line as well as for printed output.
Not only width and height can be set, but also minimum and maximum sizes; that is, suppose you have a picture of 800 x 600 pixels, but you have set maximum size to 400 x 300 pixels then the output will not ...

I have had a quick response from the support department. They have logged it in their development database.
Also I have pointed to the long building time of the PDF output. At my place it takes more then 10 minutes!

Re: PDF Output bookmarks and time consuming build
If you look at most of the PDFs from Madcap (see the left side of the footer on every Help topic), you will see that most of them show the same thing in PDF Bookmarks.
It's a new paradigm!
I can't see any of these in Help topic's. I have my bookmarks and in the WebHelp output they work normal ...

PDF Output bookmarks and time consuming build
When I build a PDF Output, all bookmarks created in Flare are displayed in the left pane at the end of the left pane:
Does anyone know if I missed a setting somewhere or is it just a bug?
Also it takes a lot of time to build the PDF output: 10 - 20 minutes!

Re: Global Project Linking - How do I remove links to images?
Thanks Geoffrey!
You helped me out. As always it is simple. I overlooked it.
The thing is: if the Add Flare Import File window is opened, I had to select Factory Templates. Then it goes on.
Thanks again!!!

Maybe you can use <t> to show the tags or open the topic with the Internal Text Editor and check if you can find the links and remove it?

Hi Geoffrey,
Unfortunately I can't help you, but maybe you can help me.
I have put this question in the forum already, but apparently you can give me the answer:
I cannot figure out how to create a Flare import file (flimpfl) to be used for global linking.
Thanks in advance
