Re: Breadcrumb Bug - Uses topic file name instead of topic title

I don't think that's what Pat.Riv meant.
The topic names shown in the breadcrumb behave inconsistently if you have set the Title tag in your topics.
The breadcrumb text for the current topic will show the Title tag text instead of its TOC text, whereas all the parent topics will use the TOC text ...

Re: Code Samples - Maintaining Spaces WITHIN code

Yep, using a pre tag will work.

Beware that the Flare XML editor does not display the spaces though (i.e. everything will be flush left), but it will display correctly in the output (and preview).

Re: Batch conversion of non-XML files in existing Flare project?

Just to be clear about this, you don't need to convert these files in order to build your project.
If they're just normal htm files, then you can copy them into your project (using Windows Explorer) and set up links to them in the TOC without having to open any of the files.
The files will also use ...

Re: list styles appearing in the paragraph style dropdown list

It sounds like you want to apply a li tag to a paragraph.
The reason the styles list doesn't show li tags is that you can't apply them to a paragraph, you can only have li tags within a list - an ol or ul tag.

It is pretty simple to change a paragraph to a list though, you just click the list ...

Re: Togglers and drop-downs

Hmm... no, what I said is quite different.
Your method involves breaking out of the list, creating the drop-down, then applying a list to the drop-down.
A big downside to that method is that the drop-down is not part of the original list, so you have to manually restart the list numbering (in your ...

Re: Changing classes

Thanks Kevin. When I do that I do indeed see the styles I want to be using. However, when I click the "list icon" in Flare, it does not use my lists it uses some out-of-the-box styles that I don't like. I can't seem to get Flare to display MY styles. I know how to edit the styles that our usability ...

Re: JS window.open to open a different Help File in same window

I must admit I know very little about ms-its and mk:@MSITStore, and I don't know if there are any potential problems with them.

One thought though, if you want the generic topics to be available from your main product help systems, you could just merge the projects - i.e. add the generic project ...

Re: JS window.open to open a different Help File in same window

Try this:

window.open("mk:@MSITStore:c:/Program Files/SoftwareName/Generic.chm::/Generic/Introduction.htm", "_self");

The "_self" part opens the link in the help viewer instead of opening the topic in a browser window.

AFAIK, I think you can only use absolute and not relative paths.

For some reason, Flare doesn't like you trying to apply a drop-down effect to a list. You can still do it, but you have to do it in a specific sequence. ...

It's an awful lot easier to use drop-downs in lists than the way you mentioned.

Re: Changing classes

What is the list style that you set up and are trying to apply?

When you click on the list icon, this will create a numbered or bullet list.
The list will consist of a 'container' tag, ol for a numbered list and ul for a bullet list, and items in both types of list use the li tag.

If you want ...

Re: Auto-save and close topics?

I don't want a pile of topics cluttering up my tabbed list, and closing--and then dealing with the save confirmation--for each topic is very annoying and slows me down.

If you right-click a topic tab there's an option to close all other open topics, and you only have to confirm saving all of them ...

On my PC it normally just takes a few seconds to finish (even in large projects), but as reported above it sometimes gets stuck and stays there forever (well, several minutes until I lose patience and press Cancel).

Re: Breadcrumbs scrolled out of view on topic open

I can't see why you should need them, you can have an xref to a topic without having to link it to a bookmark (inc. Word output).

In my project, I removed all the bookmarks from topics (that were in headings) and removed the bookmark references from the URLs of all the xref links (i.e. topic.htm ...

Sounds a bit strange.

When you add a new destination and select either Factory Templates or My Templates , it'll show the Source File to the destination file template.

E.g. on my PC the factory template is:

Re: Breadcrumbs scrolled out of view on topic open

Are you seeing this in an imported project?

I've seen this before in projects imported from FrameMaker. It happens because the TOC and xref links are to bookmarks in the topic headings, so topics that are longer than the window height will scoll down a bit so that the heading is at the top.

Re: Popups: which classes should be defined?

I think you're looking at the wrong popups.

The popup, popupHead, popupBody styles are for text popups, not topic popups.
If you insert a text popup (Insert > Text Popup), you should see your style changes.

A topic popup will display the topic as it is, using the styles of that topic.

The ...

I don't think you will be able to customise or change the existing search functionality, but you could add your own search.

One possibility would be to add a search box to your WebHelp, e.g. by adding it to the master page.
This search box would be a simple form with an input box. The form action ...

Re: CSS property for adding text to a style, like "NOTE:"

Both ways work, although the auto-number-class method needs more detail than was provided.

When you set the mc-auto-number-class property, what you're doing is saying that the autonumber section will be contained within in a span tag of that class.

So, if you set mc-auto-number-class:noteformat ...
