Re: Changing the background color of the See Also window

Hi, again,

However, me setting the background colour to a colour other than the default grey in helpControlMenu (CSS) is not working.

I think that this CSS attribute must be designed for use with formats other than compiled HTML Help because, in its design of the HTML Help ActiveX control ...

Re: Concept links not working for master (merged) projects...

Hi, Marie-Claire,

Have you got any ALink keywords in your master .chm file? (I'm assuming that Concept links use ALink keywords and commands under the hood.) You need at least one keyword in the master in order for the links in the slaves to work when they're merged into it.

Re: Concept links not working anymore

Hi, Marie-Claire,

It sounds like you may need to reregister the HTML Help ActiveX control on your computer. You can do this by running MJ's Help Diagnostics, which is available from this page:

http://helpware.net/downloads/index.htm#MJs

Make sure that the option to "Refresh Registration of all ...

Re: Lines between TOC books and topics disappear

Hi,

Do you know whether the default TOC icons for the compiled HTML Help are stored in a location somewhere that I could just replace with my own icons?

I believe the icons are stored in the HTML Help ActiveX control (%windir%\system32\hhctrl.ocx), which is used to display the TOC in the HTML ...

Re: CSH : how to specify topics to be displayed in popup window?

Hi, Marie-Claire,

If you've defined a help window in your project called "popup", your developers can reference it in their context calls, like this:

HtmlHelp(hwndCaller, "c:\app\help\Help.chm >popup ", HH_HELP_CONTEXT, 1001);

But this is a standard HTML Help window (albeit one in which you may ...

Re: Issue with help generated in Japanese language

Hi, Raghu,

I believe you may need to install the Patch for HTML Help Issues in Flare 3.1. This corrects some problems when linking to image files and style sheets when the name of the .chm file is changed.

Hi, Curly,

They're stored in the file hh.dat, which is in the hidden folder %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\HTML Help. So, typically:

C:\Documents and Settings\Curly\Application Data\Microsoft\HTML Help\hh.dat

Other settings that are stored in this file are:

Re: Changing the background color of the See Also window

Hi, Marie-Claire,

If these are two different help files, the language settings in each file may be responsible for the issue. When the language of a help file does not precisely match that of the computer on which you're viewing the file, the targets of a Related Topics or ALink control are always ...

Hi,

I've tried the suggestions above, registered all dlls, and tried helpworkshop (that continues to tell me that my itircl dll is not registered), but the search does not work on other machines either. However, the search tabs of old robohelp projects work on my machine and others.

Re: TOC OnClick

Hi,

Sorry, it's not possible to do this in compiled HTML Help (.chm). Microsoft didn't anticipate this requirement in its design of HTML Help and so made no provision for customizing the TOC in the way that you want.

Hi,

If you're still struggling with this, it would be good to see the contents of your MJ's Help Report, and of the project (.hhp) file for your help system. Can you attach them to a reply?

Hi, Mark,

I believe the solution to this issue lies in the hands of the application developer with whom you're working. See this thread:

I am running Flare 3.1 (patch installed) on Vista Ultimate. I am generating HTMLHelp. I have specified a start page other than the default, and I have run the RegisterItcc.bat to register the itcc.dll (Wdws confirmed success). My skin has search checked, and the skin is attached to the target ...

Re: Customer wants to print topics with drop-downs

Hi,

It's possible to achieve what you want by using JavaScript to expand all the drop-down sections when the user elects to print. I'm afraid I've no idea how easy this is to implement with Flare but, for what it's worth, the script look roughly like this:

<script type="text/javascript ...

Re: .CHM from a Converted Flare Project Doesn't Launch

Hi,

Do you get any error messages when you compile?

You'll receive the "HH_HELP_CONTEXT called without a [MAP] section" message when opening the .chm file if every topic ID is aliased to a topic file to which you've appended a bookmark, like this:

IDH_Start = Sample.htm#Start
IDH_Middle = Sample ...

Re: .CHM from a Converted Flare Project Doesn't Launch

Hi, amyrn,

As well as the map (.h) file, do you have an alias file that links the topic IDs to the target topic files? The context integers that an application passes to the help file must be mapped to topic IDs, which in turn must be aliased to the topic files.

Re: Versioning

Hi, Nish,

Are you looking for a way to embed a version number or stamp in a .chm file so that a program installer can read it? If so, I don't believe it is possible. This is a limitation of the HTML Help format.

For confirmation of this, see the following posting by Microsoft to the microsoft ...

Re: Want to change "HTML Help" title (as viewed compliled)

Hi, Rob,

It may be that there is a mismatch between the primary language of your help file and that of the computer on which you're viewing it. When this is the case, the help viewer automatically replaces your chosen title bar text with "HTML Help", as described in this article:

Hi, amb,

If it helps, links between HTML Help files are normally coded as follows:

<a href="ms-its:TargetHelpFile.chm::/internal_path_to/TargetTopic.htm">Text that user clicks</a>

To ensure that you're specifying exactly the right path information:

Open the target help file.
