PK,
Yes, it's a real bug. Madcap has logged it as Bug 119499. But to clarify, my issue (original post) happens when I copy and paste a block of hyphenated <pre> text from the PDF to somewhere else . Your post seemed to indicate that you're seeing this added letter and hyphen in the PDF itself. That ...

link from PDF output to downloadable zip file?
I have tried a number of ways to form a link in my PDF output that will download -- or even open -- an external zipped folder. I am having no success. Can someone tell me how to form such a hyperlink? I hear the following should work but it does not:
<a href="file:///C:/Users/matt/Desktop/link_test ...
<a href="file:///C:/Users/matt/Desktop/link_test ...

Re: Missing hyphen when XML code goes to new line
I've had MadCap Support looking at this for a week or so and they've determined that it's a bug. In fact, it's Bug 119499.
If this bug is buggin' you too, please let MadCap know so that fixing this will be prioritized.
Has anyone else noticed that hyphens get added and removed from wrapping code ...

rH,
I'm going to show this construction to someone down the aisle who's more knowledgeable than I about http and path stuff. My webhelp is not external, so it's not exactly the same situation, which is why I wanted to see what you did. This is useful. Maybe we can figure it out from this.

roboHAL,
I gave that idea a try. No guitars. But thank you for the suggestion. What was the format of the link you used where you said the appended bookmark did open for you?

Hi roboHAL,
I'm not sure whether I'm feeling happy or sad about that, but thanks for the info. It means that it can be made to work, at least. Why it doesn't work in Outlook 2010... C'est un mystère! , although now I'm remembering that I recently had a similar issue with pound signs being ...

Externally link to a bookmark from an email message
I'd like to email someone in my company a link to a topic in our webhelp, but to a particular place -- a table -- in that topic. I know you can use CSH to link from an external web page to a bookmark in the Webhelp (there is an old discussion of that at https://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic ...

We never got any satisfaction on this. It is the only experience I've had with a Madcap product that I would say was "unacceptable".

Re: How to position text at both sides of footer
I just found and read the string at viewtopic.php?f=10&p=63211, which prescribes creation of a table in the footer, but that was from 2008, six generations of Flare ago. Has this gotten easier in eight years and six more releases?

How to position text at both sides of footer
Calling all page-layout experts!
What is the best way to get two items in my footer (or header for that matter) that are both at the same vertical level but at opposite sides of the footer? Here's a diagram of what I want to do:

Re: How do I change heading "TOC" to "Table of Contents"?
Thanks Choice -- I knew that trick at one time but it's been a while since I've used it.
Margaret -- The template I used was one of the two "Tripane with PDF" options, but I can't remember whether I used the Basic or Advanced. My hunch is Basic.

Thanks Nita!
I get what you're saying, but I'm sure I'll be back when I need help making the TOC page take the right page layout and styling the "Table of Contents" heading so that it doesn't show up in the TOC.

How do I change heading "TOC" to "Table of Contents"?
I'm using a template Flare supplied that gave me an HTML5 web layout and a PDF layout all handy in one project. The trouble it saved me in setting up page layouts etc. was worth it, but being an old fuddy-duddy, I'd like to change the TOC heading from "TOC" to a more staid and conservative "Table of ...

Hi Rene,
Thanks for commenting. I looked at your topic and I see that the white spaces between elements have to be inferred when those elements are dropped to another line, which is a bummer, but it seems like something a user could figure out. White spaces don't seem to be at issue in my scenario ...

Re: Missing hyphen when XML code goes to new line
I'm seeing this same behavior in the <pre> tag. I was given some code, one line of which is several monitors'-width long and includes hyphens, periods, and underscores. In the PDF output, this long line is broken at several places at the hyphens or underscores so that it fits on the PDF page. But ...

Re: pound sign in link file path causes Word to choke and 40
Dave, we did try the full path with "index.html" included but that also didn't work. I admit this seems strange.
You say that you have no problems with any of these links in Word. Neither do I, but most of the people around me (but not all!) experience the Error 404, and somewhere between clicking ...

Wow, interesting feedback, guys. Thank you.

Alan,
Thanks for this solution. It opens without a skin this way, which is suboptimal, but you provided a solution for that, too. I found the checkbox in the skin setup for including the hyperlink at top, but I don't see the hyperlink showing up in the output. I already have breadcrumbs, but that's ...

pound sign in link file path causes Word to choke and 404
Hi.
I have a topic in my webhelp that I want to link to from a Word doc. When I create the hyperlink in Word it looks like this: http://compassuserguide/#proc_adding_updating_hotel_allotment.htm
Most computers try to open this in IE and the pound sign gets converted to %20-%20, and then the user ...

Re: Is Contrib floating license timeout configurable?
Jen,
I don't know about timeouts for Flare floating licenses. My two Flare licenses are both permanent ones assigned to particular computers. But that's a great question I'd love to know the answer to. I encourage you to ask your rep about it.
