Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage

I am finding problems with CPU usage as well. After working for a while, when i open another topic, my CPU usage for Flare goes to 25% and freezes Flare for 3- 5 minutes.

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1, Intel i5CPU 750 @2.67GHz, 8GB RAM.

Could you right-align the text, enter a single letter (like i), and set the text color to whatever color you used as your image's background?

Re: Mass removal of .htm filenames within Flare?

Is it particularly important to rename the files?
I guess filenames are visible to the end-user in WebHelp outputs (e.g. if they check the status bar when hovering on a link), but it's not something I think most people would care about.
I'd imagine that having file names that match the title of ...

Re: Mass removal of .htm filenames within Flare?

I hate to suggest a manual solution, but the simplest means I'm aware of is to spend an hour a day for a few days and do it manually. It's soul-destroying work, but 400-500 isn't too bad. Maybe a week or two at an hour a day. And bonus: Flare will then maintain all of your links.

If you have some ...

Re: Is Invert / Negative Image possible?

Capture does not permit color inversion.

If you're doing prototype screens, there are other possible methods to use (for example, put a nasty thick border around the graphic, or perhaps use "torn" edging on one of the edges). You can then associate that with a profile, and assigning the profile to ...

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage

A few more data points on this:

* Arrowing through text -- slow, uses 55-60% of my dual-core CPU;

* Mouse-wheeling through text -- fast, uses 18-20% CPU;

* Dragging the mouse around to select a range of text -- slow, uses 55-60% CPU, same as arrowing through text;

* Scrolling through a document ...

Re: Doctype element in Flare source files

I understand RamonS' point; I wasn't suggesting that xhtml validity was a must-have feature. I was speculating as to why they'd leave it out when they seemed to otherwise be so close -- either due to some technical reason (e.g., something in their tools / code has problems with the declaration), or ...

Re: How to reimport zipped projects?

Did you zip them using WinZip (or any other such package, like 7-zip, etc.), or did you use Flare's built-in zipping? If you used Flare's built-in zipping, simply double-click the .flprjzip file and Flare prompts you for the rest.

Re: Flare 7.0.1 very slow, and freezes?

Occasionally, I get freezes for a few moments (especially with my huge project), but mostly, it's fairly smooth. However, sometimes issues with the hard drive (slow hard drive, virus scanner, etc.) can cause freezes, since Flare makes relatively intense use of the hard drive. Also, if your project ...

Re: Doctype element in Flare source files

Looks like it, but I do not see any reason to have well-formed source files as those files are never intended for publication. I am not sure why that ends up to be a problem for the translators.
My humble opinion: either it's XML or it's not, and if you are going to use XML source files (which ...

Re: Target "Output Folder" list — Clearing old entries?

While I don't share your objections to the use of the registry, or the "most-recently-used" lists, I wouldn't have any problem with those being user-editable. I don't use them for anything. I rarely modify my targets once I've set them up (except to modify the output file name, the variables, and ...

FWIW, it would appear that the props files ARE referenced when inserting an image....

Re: Catapult log when publishing

The file is in the KB range, and I don't believe it gets downloaded with the WebHelp -- it just sits on the server. I don't really see any problem with it for WebHelp. Yes, Flare could look at the timestamps on the server files, but I don't really think it needs to.

For print or CHM, it makes no ...

Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to

Interesting...for some reason, I thought it did that at the folder level, and not the file level, but I must have confused it with Subversion (or maybe I'm remembering the old RoboHelp functionality -- we don't condition pictures much). For what it's worth, the .props files won't be included in your ...

Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to

I doubt it's the .props files, or your blank project would not have exhibited the same delay. I have a project with about 600 images (and nearly as many .props files), and it still opens in about 1 second for me. (Side note: Flare doesn't require .props files that I am aware of; only Capture does ...

Why does it have to be uploaded? Especially if it's a ZIP file? How could Flare be using that? The project folder has a FileSyncCache folder -- seems like that should be enough.

OS is XP

Just did a blank project (used one of the Flare 7 samples, the "sample book" template): Yes, the problem is present. 3+ seconds when pressing ctrl-G for the dialog to pop up.
Hmm. The only situation under which I can reproduce this issue is if I let Flare go "inactive" for a while, wait ...

I'm pretty sure it's related to the Remove Stale Files option; because if you publish the same target twice then normally nothing is uploaded the second time, but if you delete the zip then it will upload everything again.

Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to

Hmm. What OS are you using?

I'd be interested to see how it worked on an empty project. One thing I've noticed from time-to-time is that Flare can be slow opening dialogs like that when it has a lot of files to go through (e.g., a project with hundreds or thousands of images).

(For comparison ...
