Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to
How large is the topic? Does it contain a lot of conditions? How large is the project? Does it happen every single time you do it (for example, if you insert one image, and then immediately insert another, is it a lot faster the second time? does it happen in every topic?)? Can you reproduce the ...

Re: Can't find basic editing tools
I think you're doing about the best can be done with Capture for removing an area of a screen cap that is not along an entire border (which you could remove using the crop feature). This is a hole in Capture's functionality. It's not something I commonly need, so I simply do a direct edit in ...

Re: "text-decoration: underline" affects TOC
Maybe I'm missing something here, but if ccardimon wanted xrefs underlined in the print output (which I am guessing is the case, based on the other forum topic), won't disabling the underline in the print medium also disable the underline for xrefs in the entire print output?

Takes near-zero CPU and a second or so for me. If you'd like help, could you provide some more details?

Re: How does the flare index work? I am unable to remove a topic
The only "Remove" word is if you right-click a keyword, and there you will see "Remove Keyword" and that typically prompts you by telling you which files will be affected.
To remove a topic from a keyword, right-click the topic, and select Unassign Topic (as whunter said).

Re: Mappings and Single Copies of Files, Automated Build Issues
I'm in the same boat as Dave Lee, minus the working madbuild implementation. It simply hasn't mattered for us to integrate Flare into our build process; our help builds are completely separate from our code builds. For the one project where we have to check our output into source control (which I do ...

I won't disagree that Flare's editor should be faster, but I haven't had a problem with it keeping up with my typing since maybe Flare 2? Not saying your problem is not very real and aggravating!

Re: How to show that Xrefs are clickable?
Same way as the "a" -- open your style sheet in the Stylesheet Editor, find the MadCap|Xref element, and change the text-decoration property to Underlined (in the print medium, of course). That *should* do it, if I remember correctly.

Where are you putting the style -- on the xref or on the a element? It should be on the xref, I'm pretty sure.ccardimon wrote:Surprisingly enough, yes. I got that part. I must be missing some voodoo elsewhere.

If you are comfortable with editing the registry, you can edit the list. Here's where you find it in the registry (I used the built-in Regedit tool to browse the registry):

Re: Publishing to MediaWiki
Flare does not build MediaWiki targets (god I'd LOVE for it to build to wiki targets). I'm not aware of any middleware, but you might be able to hack something up if there's an xhtml > MediaWiki tool out there.

Yep, unless it changed in Flare 7 (I haven't checked there), borders do not transfer to Word.lacastle wrote:i don't think the borders transfer to Word right. i tried it a few years ago and i think i had to manually create them post-processing.

Re: Error When Building Word Help
1) Restore your documentation from backup. (In the future, I highly recommend backing up your Flare projects before you cross Flare versions.)
2) If you don't have a backup (or no recent backup), contact MadCap support, and they may be able to help you.

Re: why can't i click 'accept insertion' using track chanages
screencast.com is safe -- it's TechSmith's sharing site, for things like sharing Jing videos (and, apparently, screen caps).
Sorry billyclark, I do not know the answer to your question. I haven't tried to use change tracking in production.

Re: auto-saving and weird minimize issues with 5.0
1) How are you performing the capture? If you are capturing directly from Flare, I believe you always need a name (but I think you have to specify the name...it will default to the next name if it wants to). If you are capturing directly from Capture, it will not save anything automatically (at ...

Re: How do I format without using an external stylesheet?
Not that this will help you in your short term issue, but we've tried something along these lines to do embedded help, and abandoned it. I think, however, that the idea of using a whole topic (whether it's html or plain text) is not ideal -- most people don't want a book to appear in front of them ...

Re: Can You Modify the WebHelp Output Folder Structure?
The output folders aren't really the best place to handle that sort of thing. I recommend creating a publish destination, and then assigning it to your target, and publishing the target after you build it. That way, you can select exactly the path in which you want the WebHelp to end up.

Re: Can't get headers or footers to appear in pdf output
You probably have to assign the page layout to the TOC. Go into the TOC, pick the first place you want it assigned, and go into properties. Don't have Flare open now, so I don't remember which tab it's on, but on one of the tabs, you will find a place to specify both the page layout, and the page ...

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage
Flare's XML Editor is very, very different from a typical text editor, and it will not be as fast. It does real-time transforms of the text file into the WYSIWYG look. That costs resources, so when you're arrowing around in Flare, Flare is basically retransforming a bunch of XML, not simply ...

Re: Creating Condition Tags for Versions
Yes, we do. We create a new Condition Tag Set for each release. While we are more likely to have 15-25 features in a release, we release 3-4 times per year. Also, our versions do eventually fall out of support, so the plan is, at some point, we will remove the old unneeded conditions. Neither method ...

Do you have only a single p inside it? Or only 1 of some other tag? If so, check that tag to see what the page-break-inside property is.
