Re: Creating Condition Tags for Versions
We have the same problem (supporting multiple releases), but we rarely tag at the release level. Instead of tagging at the release level, we typically tag at the feature level. For us, this is not too hard, as our features are usually fairly well-defined (not in the docu; they are all over the place ...

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage
There are a few things you can do. I'd go into the View > Show menu and start testing out what happens when you remove certain things from view, or change settings. For example, some people have reported increasing speed by turning off "Show Conditional Indicators." You may also try to remove the ...

Re: Only 20 of 57 styles shown!
In the Style Class dropdown (right click a P block) of the XML Editor, how do I get beyond this message, to see all of them? Is my only option to lose screen real estate by opening the entire Style Window?

Re: Importing from Epic Arbortext XML
The question of whether xhtml is "real" XML is academic to me. xhtml is an XML application with an XML declaration, and as such, can be transformed and extended just like "pure" XML.

Re: Building target disrupts source control
That's what we do. We publish our help to a specific folder on our network and the developers haev automated scripts that copy it from there. Right now we're doing that with .chm files (produced with Flare) and tons of PDFs (created with FrameMaker).

Re: table page-break-inside has no effect
I set my table style to page-break-inside: avoid and I also added the td.p {page-break-inside: avoid;} for those cases where my table cells have p tags in them. But the table row still breaks at a page break. I would love to figure this out because we have hundreds of tables and it requires a lot ...

A sw developer checks out the WebHelp output using SVN to integrate into his GUI app, so I can't exclude the Output folder fron source control. Is this an inappropriate use of source control? What's the best way to handle this?

Report it as a bug -- sometimes, especially if it's a known issue, they will tell you how to fix it.

The exception seems to be for "insufficient resources" but the batch is about credentials. I have no idea what the problem is -- have you contacted MadCap support?

Re: Best way to present wide tables in PDF?
The issue you're worried about is the headers / footers, right? Because you can't "bookend" the headers and footers so that they look like the rest of the book for the landscape page? I don't know of a way to do that...and I don't think there's a CSS method to make text go vertical (other than HTML5 ...

Re: Image in the Page Layout for PDF
I've had trouble with the same thing. We ended up settling for a very small border (despite not having any assigned in the page layout) because our image was such that it wasn't a big problem, and I didn't have time to try to track down exactly what (if anything) we'd done wrong.

Nope. It just uses the (print) medium.
Have you associated the PDF medium with the PDF target? In the Target editor, on the Advanced tab, check how you've set the Stylesheet Medium setting.

Re: Flare to "ordinary" Web pages — XHTML, or…?
A DITA export and then import into some tool that can generate "normal" xhtml / html from DITA might work. I don't really see any other way, unless you write an XSLT to translate the MadCap namespace stuff into "bog standard" xhtml.

Mid 2010, Google admits that they made the problem. All through 2010, no sign that Google will address the problem.

Is there a way to resize the image in the Page Layout? I need to cover the front page of the PDF with Company branded image. I inserted an image frame in the title page. Re: Getting rid of </span><span+> from word imports
Beyond cracking open the docx XML files and editing the XML directly, I don't know of a way (and, as you might guess, that is harder than actually removing them in Flare).
Actually, if you are familiar with Regular Expressions (RegEx), you might be able to simply remove all <span></span> tags with ...

Re: Webhelp and Master Pages - Confused Newbie
Regarding your Master Page question: Yes, there is definitely a way to do what you want, but it's not very obvious. To do it, you need to create a style class for the html element, then apply that class to the topics you want to receive the master page.

Re: associate a Layout with a specific stylesheet medium?
Media are not associated with page layouts; they are associated with targets. The medium that shows up by default for a topic when you open it is medium associated with your primary target.

That screen cap appears to be Flare's UI. Does the issue occur in the output, or only inside Flare itself?

Content in tables is definitely searchable. Are you sure the topics that contain your tables are not marked to be excluded from search? You can check in the file properties of the topic.

This is a great discussion.
How would something like this be implemented?
I'd probably say it would work best as a report, ideally with some kind of options to fix instances automatically (sort of like auto-correction). The report should do more than list the topic it's in, however. What we as ...
