Re: spell check: Is the word "cancelled" misspelled in Flare?

As Andrew has said - it's almost certainly your region settings. If your region is UK-English then 'Canceled' will be flagged as incorrect while 'Cancelled' will be correct. If your region is US-English 'Canceled' will be correct whilst 'Cancelled' will be flagged as incorrect.

Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to

It's doggishness is (from my observations) related to its resource use. For example, Flare doesn't build an image of the index on disk. Rather, it builds the index dynamically by reading ALL the topics. This index is then held in... memory.

So instead of working with a single file that holds the ...

It's one of those things that *should* have been stored in the registry (in fact, I'd be kind of surprised if they weren't...), and then simply read from subsequent versions.

Re: Problems with paragraph spacing in table cells

We actually add the same margin to both top and bottom. I don't remember what the issue was...at the time, I think it had to do with sometimes needing it one place, and sometimes another, and as you said, it ignores the doubled margins, so it only caused us a problem in tables...where we used td p ...

Re: Should .props Files Be Added to SVN?

The .props file is what allows non-destructive edits of images. In addition, Flare uses the .props files for things like conditions on images (conditions to exclude images from some outputs, for example). You can exclude them, but the implication is that, if you ever have to recreate the project or ...

Re: Problems with paragraph spacing in table cells

You must have specified a top margin or top padding value on your base paragraph tag in your stylesheet. The rule of CSS is the style closest to the content wins. In this case, you have a paragraph tag inside a table cell tag (<td>). The paragraph tag is closest to the content, so the paragraph ...

Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to

Typically, for me, Flare is MUCH MUCH slower than Explorer. My projects with 500+ topics in one folder (and I have 30 some-odd folders), I can browse through them in Explorer in no time at all, whereas Flare takes 3-4 seconds to click from folder to folder.

Also, given that samjones6 has the same ...

Re: Flare 7.1: What is your fix count?

I am curious, do you only get the email notifications about bug fixes if you have a maintenance plan?

MadCap has logged a lot of bugs on my behalf, but I've never been informed that one has been fixed.

I don't know if I am unlucky or if they only generate the emails for maintenance customers.

Re: spell check: Is the word "cancelled" misspelled in Flare?

A reality check?

More likely a region check.

A single "l" is valid in the US and double "l" using British English. Check that your topic does not have a different language applied, or that your project language hasn't changed.
I often see dodgy language settings on imported topics.

Re: Build errors for Flare project controlled with ClearCase

Like Lisa, I know nothing about ClearCase. However, since everything except Flare's build process appears to find and see the masterpage, and you have checked your stylesheets / target / project to ensure that the link is in fact correct, it's possible that the masterpage isn't *really* the problem ...

"Flare doesn't remember the last inserted variable "

I've been asking for this since version 4 at least -- nice.

It's largely irrelevant now, as auto-insert variables is way more awesome, but it's nice to see. :)

Re: Stylesheet issue

I want to apply one stylesheet to all my topics. This is a legacy project that came with its own stylesheets already applied. I can't figure out how to override the old stylesheets. I have applied a master stylesheet at the project leve and the target level but I'm still seeing the old styles.

I have imported an old RoboHelp project, and for some reason there are 3 versions of my stylesheet in use in the project. I have specified a stylesheet in my WebHelp target, but I can't figure out how to make it link to my topics. When I try to change the link from the topics themselves I get a ...

Tried to reproduce this, but honestly, in Word, it looks the same on-screen to me as it does in print (that is to say, it looks pretty crappy in both cases). I'm not sure why it uses a PNG instead of a vector, since I'm pretty sure Word supports vector images.

When you say "printout" do you mean PDF / Word output viewed on a computer screen, or do you mean literally printed on the page?

Re: Alternatives to Contributor?

You can certainly use something like Notepad++. It means you don't get any "support" from Flare itself (so if you are trying to insert xrefs, variables, snippets, etc., that's an annoyingly manual process), but it works.

You may be able to use something like Dreamweaver, too, but I'm not sure if ...

The only two things I can think that would be is the Styles panel (View > Style Window) or the Formatting panel (View > Local Formatting Window). They appear by default in the right-hand panel location, so you may need to move them to the bottom of your screen.

Never seen that before, but I've rarely applied borders to all existing images of a profile. I'd report this as a bug (or, if you have a MadPak support contract, contact MadCap support). https://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx

Re: RoboHelp import loses mapped images (and more)

Welcome to the forums!

I've never done any conversions from higher than RoboHelp X5, and haven't worked much with image maps, so my experience is of little use here. If no one else can help, that sounds like a bug to me, and MadCap support may be able to help you (if you have a support contract ...
