Re: Internal Error: Object reference not set to an instance ...

Well, it tells us that the error occurs during pagination. I was hoping it was failing on a specific topic we could point to, but looks like it won't be that easy.

Since we don't have anything specific, we'll have to approach this in a systematic way.

First stop: create a new TOC from scratch, and ...

Re: Adding a few underlined tab stops for a sig

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tab_key#Tabs_in_HTML

You may find that wikipedia article useful. Not sure if tab characters work in print output, but in online output, they only work when you use <pre> tags, or when you set a style's whitespace property to pre.

However, you are probably better off ...

You're looking for Statistics. That contains a topic count, word count, among other things. In Flare v7, it's located under the Project heading.

Re: Global linking - Auto-include linked files

Hi Andrew,

First let me thank you. I appreciate all the work you have put in for a "proof of concept".

The way you describe it does in fact work as expected. But this doesn't seem to be a very "friendly solution", since in my case I have to import some 20 each topics from 4 different projects ...

Re: Excluding XRef (Cross Reference) from Printed Output

Not sure if it works in Word or not, but you need to go into the print media of your stylesheet and, for the xref style class you are using, set the display property to "none."

Re: Global linking - Auto-include linked files

Thanks Andrew. I did exactly what you did, but in my case, once I have selected the master project and click Import ..., ALL files of the master project show up in the dialog, obviously, because that's where I will select the topic(s) (e.g. summary.htm, intro.htm) I want to include in my parent ...

Re: Internal Error: Object reference not set to an instance ...

There's really not enough information to give you any solution. Watch on the Messages tab to see what is happening when the error occurs, and that may tell you where to start looking for a problem. Also, it looks like you're building output, not publishing.

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage

Definitely report this to MadCap (assuming you haven't already done so).

I have opened this issue with MadCap multiple times and have gotten absolutely nowhere.

I don't think MadCap tech support can help on this one (that is my clear experience).
The more reports they get, the more likely it is ...

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage

My entire documentation team experiences this issue with Flare as well, but we also notice a strange behavior based on project size:

For projects 20MB or smaller, Flare will wind down to 0% CPU usage when idle. For projects 40MB in size and larger, Flare never goes less than 50% CPU usage, even ...

Re: Paste xml text into a pre style and preserve indents?

1) the way to preserve the indents is to use a <pre> tag, or to use the whitespace property (with the pre value). This will result in the problem you described in 2).

2) Did a brief search, and this is the best page I could come up with. It has links leading to some other interesting areas you ...

Testing in a test project in Flare 7.01, I cannot duplicate the problem you list -- my PNGs are all getting imported. When the dialog appears showing you which files are going to be imported, does it display your image, and the import isn't working, or is it simply not showing up at all?

In the Project Import Editor, I have selected to include Topic Files (*.htm;*.html ...

RamonS is correct -- you can find the _Temp.hhp file inside your output folder, in Temporary Files for your target.

Re: How to add images to Headings?

In the heading class (or heading element, if you are not using a separate class), use the background-image property to add your image, and then adjust your text using the margin properties (margin-left, margin-right, etc.) to make sure your text does not cover the image.

Re: You and Your - how to stop technical authors using these!

There are many places where traditions blur things. Typical example is a bank. The tellers are expected to be dressed nicely and look businesslike. A dude with tattoos, ripped jeans, muscle shirt, bling, and flip flops is most likely as capable in banking as a greased up guy, but honestly, which ...

Re: note style inside ordered list incrementing numbering

Don't use a list item for the note style. Instead, use a paragraph, and "embed" the image as a background (use the margin-left CSS property to prevent your text from covering the image). Do note that background images in styles do not work in Word output.

Then, when you create your list, insert the ...

Re: Closing Drop-downs

Yes, you can do it with some JavaScript. It's not as simply as it could be, since you can't name the drop-down element (like you can with togglers) -- Flare removes any name you apply to the MadCap:dropDownBody element when it builds the output (replaces that whole tag with a set of div elements ...
