Hi there
Translating Flare projects is new to me. My company has their own English to French translation team that uses MultiTrans as their translation tool.
I've given them an XLIFF that I created through Lingo to test how that would work with their system, and they can find no way to use that ...

No problem - I'm sure they'll catch up some dayDave Lee wrote:Sorry about that - I knew in the back of my mind that this functionality existed, but didn't realise it doesn't work for any 'current' help outputs. (DotNetHelp is already dead, and I'm sure WebHelp will be dead soon.)

Oh no! I followed all the instructions, and then when I expanded the note at the very bottom of the help topic, it said:
NOTE: Stop words are not customizable in HTML5 outputs.

Re: Computer Voice and Scripts for Audio
The challenge I'm having is we don't want to auto-translate due to quality issues and there are certain advantages to text-to-speech for voice-overs. We are using this now in Captivate. Asking someone to provide narration for our videos and re-recording for updates would be a real challenge for us ...

Re: Search in the form of questions not working
Yep, it tells you how to add stop words in the help topic I linked to.
I'm sorry - I totally missed that when I was scanning the replies! Thank you very much. Looks like it's a language skin, so I could set up my new stop words and then add them to the master project to share with all the ...

Importing from Livelink and Network locations
I have a few files we want to include in the help that are authored and maintained by another group that wants to keep updating them in Word. Computer Voice and Scripts for Audio
I wanted to move from Captivate to Mimic until I couldn't find a way to provide audio using computer voice. We can enter a script in Captivate and then use Microsoft voices to create audio. While that's not the most glamorous, it works for short minute videos and it works for the company in ...

After painstakingly copying over styles from a generic CSS to mine, I have narrowed down the reason. My images, when embedded into a list as simple paragraph items, displayed expanded instead of collapsed by the toggle because of this line in my CSS MadCap|relatedTopics

Toggle Not Working on Images in Lists
I've just started changing my images to Simple Paragraph Items within lists instead of my previous method of having them as paragraph tags and then restarting the list below the image. I made the change in an attempt to force images to keep with previous in print output.

There is a way but only if you are happy to edit the code.
Open the TOC in the text editor. The second line should have a reference to the source file - remove that reference.
For example, in the following snippet of code, you would remove the sourceDocument=="C:\temp\test_Mar_2011.docx"

We have a home button in our HTML5 skin that takes you back to the "Introduction" or HOME page of the help. However, when I click this button, it does nothing. Here are some of the button events I've tried so far:

Re: startTopic not showing in CSH call
Both are browser strings AFTER the CSH call from the software. Any CSH made in Flare 7 contains the StartTopic portion of the string. Any CSH made in Flare 8 fails when called from the software, and the difference in the browser is the absence of that StartTopic portion of the string.

Up until our recent upgrade to Flare 8.1.2 (may or may not be related), our CSH calls would appear like this in the Web browser when called from the software:

I check in my Flare topics through subversion, so I can see what's changed from one check-in to the next. Recently, after a check-in I noticed a topic had changes, but nobody had edited that topic. When I compared the changes, I noted the following is all the changed in the topic:

Wow - thanks everyone! I really appreciate the advice. I'll do a little number gathering and present my case.
And yeah, I probably got paid enough doing this current research to have purchased the appropriate SSD for all my team. Why or why do technical writers have to PROVE themselves? Sigh.

So, I had a convo with IT about putting a second hard drive into the box (I found a 32GB SSD could be purchased for under $100). I got a confusing answer (see below). Does everyone agree?

Yes, it is a case where we're leasing machines from Dell.
The machines are Windows, 64-bit. They decided to order three configurations - one for developers, one for QA, and one for everyone else. Somehow, the technical writers got included in the "everyone else" category, and I'm bucking that right ...
