Re: Machine Requirements - Updated for 2010 - What do you think?
Let's say I couldn't get a SSD (cause, likely I can't). Would a 10,000 RPM SATA provide any better performance?

Machine Requirements - Updated for 2010 - What do you think?
I have the option of two machines. I'll have to push my reasons for the 2nd; however, I believe it'll be a better box for handling some of Flare's features (such as auto-suggesting snippets, variables, etc) which takes a lot of hard drive swapping. That being said, perhaps I could do better? If you ...

Good news - if I strip out the script brackets from the beginning and end, and then use Insert Script from Flare, it works.

Re: Google Analytics in Masterpages?
Hi Tinker
Thanks for your response. I was about to respond - "but the masterpage doesn't have a </body> tag!", and that's when I realized what I'd done! I hadn't been opening the masterpage in the text editor. I was opening it in the viewer. DUH!

Javascript Provide Feedback Link
I saw the following information online (@ http://www.idratherbewriting.com/2008/10/17/10-ways-to-gather-feedback-from-users/) and I'd like to try it in my Webhelp. However, what would this link look like in my code?:

Google Analytics in Masterpages?
Hi all
The instructions for google analytics says to put the javascript code immediately before the </body> tag on each page. However, I'd like to put it on the master page and not have to worry about editing every topic. Can you do that?

Re: Choose between linking PDF files or Mark of the Web? Really?
Hi all
Has anyone had any problems displaying the PDFs in Tinker's PDF containers, but only on some machines? I have two machines that either won't display the PDF file at all, or when they do display it, only 1/3 of the PDF shows in the window and there's no way to zoom into the book to read it ...

PDF output - without mcbook or any other stuff
I want to include a series of PDF files with my help file. I want to access them from a page in the help, and I want to store them within the help. I decided that the best way to do this was to create targets and simply publish the PDF files to the folder within the help. This way, as the content in ...

Profiles for capture image in Mimic
I like the Capture UI Element option in Mimic. It's a quick way to add a screen capture into my movie. However, I want to control the size of the screen capture by applying a Capture Profile to the image. Is there any way I can set the Capture UI Element in Mimic to use a specific capturing profile?

Disappearing TOC when Use TOC Depth for Headings is selected
This isn't happening in EVERY project. Sigh. Which makes this more difficult. However, perhaps you have encountered this ghost and can provide me with some insight.

Re: Security (authentication) for Webhelp
They run the software from their local computers, but they access data via an online service, so we know they have to be connected to an Internet. I want to host my help files on our company server. I've almost got a green light, except for one thing: the company does not want people other than our software users to be able to find the help online.

hey doc_guy - I used your suggestion for the paragraph styles. That worked fantastically. So, besides the toggle issue, you solved most of my problem. Thank you.

Re: Use CSS to prevent selected styles from going to Print?
My Expanding Text Effects was originally set to Convert to Footnotes. I tried your suggestion to change it to Remove the "body" . What happens in both instances is that the text of the toggle still appears in the output, but the toggle itself disappears. What I'm trying to do is make the toggle and ...

Ok, that works perfect for my H3 style and for my link style. However, I'm still having problems keeping toggles (and toggle text) from appearing in the print. Do you have any idea how I might solve that?

Alright - fantastic. So far, I only want three things hidden, so I'll give your suggestion a try and see if they disappear in the print (thanks):

Use CSS to prevent selected styles from going to Print?
CSS gurus - please help. I'd like to print topics to PDF, but globally I'd like toggles and H3 styles to NEVER appear in the print. I know I can individually apply conditional text to these items, but I'd rather set one time in the CSS to exclude those items from print and save the hassle of ...

Print format for images - is there a global way?
We are now finally creating print documentation from our Web help. However, when I originally set up image profiles in Capture, I set the print output for images to 300DPI - thinking this would give us a nice, sharp image. However, what it's done is create super small images.
