Re: Painfully slow rendering of the Preview window
It suddenly occurred to me that it made sense to create a "devMasterPage" without the Google Analytics code so that I don't have to remember to uncomment out the Google Analytics code in the main master page before publishing to our public site. The dev target that we use for testing points to the ...

Re: window size persistence feature and SVN (or other)
Did anyone ever log this as a "bug" or "feature request" with MadCap? I'm running into this issue now as well when merging files in Git, and it's a real nuisance.

Re: Painfully slow rendering of the Preview window
I was on the phone yesterday with MadCap support about a different issue, and brought up the slow preview issue again, and he found the solution in an old support call log. As it turns out, there was a thread in the forum with the solution, but somehow I missed it.

Re: Painfully slow rendering of the Preview window
Thanks, robo. Based on your input, I'm observing a slightly different behavior. I can't "Cancel" any faster than the rendering would take, as whatever is slowing up the process is also causing it to not receive the Cancel request, but once it's closed, previewing other topics seems to go much ...

Re: Text Editor removes all white space between table elemen
Thanks, Nita, but I believe the <thead> and <tbody> tags are optional. However, in trying it out just to be sure, it suddenly occurred to me that the issue might be the fact that my table is stuffed inside of an <li> tag.
Sure enough, when I copy the table to just outside of the list, the ...

Painfully slow rendering of the Preview window
Has anyone found a solution to the unbearably slow rendering of the Preview window? It can take up to 40 seconds for a topic to display in the Preview window, which is about 39 seconds too long. And I know I'm not alone based on this comment: https://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t ...

Text Editor removes all white space between table elements
Why does Flare's Text Editor take this tidily formatted table:
<table class="BORDER">

<tr>
<td>HP-UX</td>
<td>SHLIB_PATH</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Linux</td>
<td>LD_LIBRARY_PATH</td>

Link to element id in same topic broken in PDF output
I make frequent use of element id's to link to a specific spot in a topic. In particular, I am using this feature in a single topic where I want to link back to an earlier step in an ordered list without having to get involved with autonumbering. For example:
<li id="this">Some list item.</li ...

Re: Need breadcrumbs to display home
Well, the only someone on this project, currently, is me, so I must have added it, but perhaps indirectly by editing those settings in the Stylesheet Editor at some point. Otherwise, I normally just edit the stylesheet in the Internal Text Editor.

Re: Need breadcrumbs to display home
Thanks, Dave, that's what I figured. I would certainly prefer a more straightforward way to achieve this, but at least it works.
Actually, the MCBreadcrumbsLink class is in the style sheet:
a.MCBreadcrumbsLink
{
color: #696969;
font-style: italic;
text-decoration: underline;
}

Re: Need breadcrumbs to display home
Thanks, Dave, that worked! The one thing I had to do to make the hyperlink styles match was to add the MCBreadcrumbsLink class to the anchor tag:

<MadCap:breadcrumbsProxy />

Re: Need breadcrumbs to display home
Resurrecting this thread.
The only idea I have is to add a static Home link in front of the breadcrumbs proxy. That will only look right when you can edit the proxy properties to not include the "You are here:" text, but rather add that manually as static text in front of your home link. So it ...

Re: Has anyone migrated to the Git integration?
You're welcome, AnthonyD. Hopefully the developer is familiar with Git - that will help a lot - but feel free to ask questions here, and I'll answer as best as I can. There are plenty of online resources as well, and sometimes, when I can't remember a command, I just google around for it.

Thank you, SoleWriter, for asking the question, and Dave for answering! I can't fathom why the default template setting limits the use of the available space.

Re: Has anyone migrated to the Git integration?
I have to tell you that Git has a bit of a steep learning curve, which might be slightly alleviated if you use one of the graphical interfaces like Git Extensions, but once you get used to it, it's kind of nice. We use Cygwin for the command line interface to git.

Re: Side Navigation Vs. Top Navigation Topics
Thanks, Dave! I was about to say that I don't have a Navigation section, but I see now that Flare assumes you'll only have this menu in "Tablet" or "Mobile" mode. Since I'm forcing the flyout menu to be "always on" by artificially expanding the tablet breakpoint, I didn't think to switch mediums ...

Re: Has anyone migrated to the Git integration?
AnthonyD, I love your tag line.
I don't have an answer about Git-related updates in Flare 12, but just wanted to restate that it sounds like many, including us, are using Git outside of the Flare UI, and it seems to work just fine. In other words, once you're in your branch, you simply edit files ...

Re: Side Navigation Vs. Top Navigation Topics
Indeed, setting the background-color style for the class .right-off-canvas-menu in my project stylesheets (one for the home page and one for the rest of the topics) changed the background color of the flyout menu. Now I just need to figure out the rest of the style elements in that menu. But I can't ...

Re: Side Navigation Vs. Top Navigation Topics
The next question I have is where, if anywhere, in the Flare UI can you style the "flyout" menu? If you change the Menu settings in the HTML5_Top_Nav skin, it affects the top menu area, which is not what I want. If I do an "inspect" on the flyout menu in the browser, it looks like the background ...

Re: Side Navigation Vs. Top Navigation Topics
Well, I just found this in Flare's documentation ( http://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare12/Content/Output/HTML5_Output/HTML5_Top_Navigation_Output.htm ), so apparently this is the way to disable the top nav menu:

Re: Side Navigation Vs. Top Navigation Topics
I think wade3 was asking a different question, and I'm not sure it's been answered. What if my TOC has 7 top-level categories, but I want something different, i.e. fewer categories (or none at all), in the top nav menu so as not to clutter up that space?

Re: Has anyone migrated to the Git integration?
Thanks, Paul. For now, I think we're fine with just using Git directly outside of Flare. I don't really see any advantage to the integration. As soon as you make changes to any files, Git recognizes which files are changed, and you can then commit them to the branch, and ultimately merge them back ...
