Re: Linked items not in index

A related issue is that, when building a PDF target (even one that does not include an Index proxy) Flare looks for every index keyword mentioned in the Index Link file (even if the file is conditioned-out for this target) and raises a warning for each one it can't find. These warnings can swamp ...

Re: modifying stop-words list -- is it possible?

I'm guessing there's been no progress on this?

Our application includes commands like WHAT and WHERE, but WebHelp Search can't find the topics that describe them!

Re: Flare 7 hangs when importing a project from Subversion

I had the same problem with binding to Subversion. Lacking your patience, I aborted after 2 hours. On looking at the repository, I found that all of the project was in fact present, but Flare reported that the project was not bound. Luckily, Flare can be "fooled" by editing the project file and ...

Inge, when I tried changing the skin it had no effect on the text in the box itself. I must try that again...

UPDATE: Yep, you are right. Changing the Tooltip works. Wonder how I missed that before?

Agreed. Also, AFAIK, the only way to change the default text in the search box is to edit the language skin.

Re: Subversion merge tool

We've been trying this out and can't get merge to merge at all - it just stomps over whatever is in the repository. We've raised a ticket.

Also, the right-click context menu that the Flare Help says should be available, isn't.

EDIT: That last statement may not be due to user error, but we are ...

Re: Sending topics for review

It does indeed seem to be the case that topics with (tracked) changes cannot be sent for review. And I agree that this is rather counter-intuitive.

However, I think you can still send topics that include annotations. In some situations, this may even be preferable. In my experience, reviewers tend ...

Copy-Modify-Merge workflow

Looking at Flare's source control support, it seems designed around the Lock-Modify-Unlock workflow.

I believe this is generally regarded as rather inefficient when several authors are working on a project simultaneously. In this situation, a Copy-Modify-Merge workflow is better, as it allows ...

Re: Ignoring certain files (especially hidden ones) in Flare

Eric, you say you intend to switch to SVN and the TortoiseSVN client. Am I right in thinking that this means abandoning Flare's internal source control inerface? We too are looking at using Flare and TortoiseSVN, but being new to SVN I'm worried about how to handle file renames/moves (which of ...

Re: Browsers and Operating Systems Supported by WebHelp

There's another thread on this issue (search for "Chrome") but WebHelp served from a web server is fine in Chrome. IIRC the problem is that Chrome does not display WebHelp from your local file system. This is a deliberate security policy which, AFAIK, is not MadCap's fault.

Re: span.class vs. local formatting

There is another possible reason, and that is that b is non-semantic mark-up. It's unlikely that you are making text bold at random; you are presumably doing it because it means something. On that basis, strong is better than b , but (for example, and depending on the circumstances) span ...

Re: font-face embedding in webhelp- where to put fonts?

That's true when using the font-family property to refer to a system font; when referring to a CSS3 @font-face font, the name needs to match the one you gave in the @font-face declaration. But the point about single quotes still applies.

Re: font-face embedding in webhelp- where to put fonts?

Yes, I have, as a test of the technology. It works fine for me. I have my Fonts folder immediately below Resources (i.e. on the same level as Stylesheets). The URLs in the @font-face declarations therefore all begin with '../fonts/'. Not sure that helps you much.

Re: Position of table captions

Easy. The position of the caption is controlled by the caption-side property, e.g.

Code: Select all

table
{
    caption-side: top;
}
(It think it also works on the caption element itself.) You just have to set the property differently for the default and print mediums.

MadCap_Id_xxxxx topic IDs

When I build my HTML Help output, I notice that Flare secretly adds a number of aliases and "#define MadCap_Id_xxxxx xxxxx" topic IDs to the header file (where xxxxx is a five-digit number). These are in addition to the aliases I have defined myself. They do no harm as the numbers don't clash with ...

GPL with different source and destination folders?

I use GPL for a couple of projects, but in each case the imported files occupy the same folder (relative to the project) in the destination as in the source.

Is it possible to set up GPL so that a file in the source project can be imported to a different location in the destination project? The ...
