Re: Preview of hyperlinks has no styles applied
Paula, I'm afraid this is a "feature" of Flare. When you preview a help topic, Flare uses the default medium of the applicable stylesheet. (Note that this may not be the medium you are using in the XML Editor - but that's another "feature".) When you jump from that preview to another topic, Flare ...

Re: Would The Ctrl-Y - Repeat Feature Be Useful In Flare?
Replace Calibri with Tahoma, and that's exactly our situation.I ended up using Calibri because corporate marketing advised against using the "corporate font" because nobody aside corporate marketing has that font installed on their system.

FWIW, RoboHelp has, or at least used to have, a similar problem with handing differently-formatted PNGs.

Re: WebHelp includes all topics, not just the ones in the TOC
You have to condition out the unwanted topics for help outputs. I'd suggest that every topic needs at least one condition unless you want it to appear in every help target.

Bob, you've achieved more than I've been able to. I can't even get a ToC entry to link to another skin. Every time I create the .CHM file, I get a warning that the selected skin is undefined.

The values aren't in the alias file, they're in the header (.h) file. You can open this directly in Excel, as a space-delimited list of records.

Re: Alias File
1. Make a copy of the alias file (with the .flali extension).
2. Rename it to have an .xml extension.
3. Open it in Excel.
4. Save it as an .xls file.

Re: Flare for training materials
I'd appreciate some advice regarding this topic.
Trainers in our organisation are beginning to ask if they can access and add to the Flare projects produced by the TWs.
I'm not sure what to recommend. A full Flare licence seems like overkill, given that Trainers won't be producing any help formats ...

Re: Flare crashes at startup
MadCap Support resolved this for me (thanks, Kip).
I merely had to delete the C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\MadCap Software\Flare\CatapultMdiEditor folder.
I don't know why, but it worked!

Flare has suddenly started "encountering a problem" at startup. Every damn time. Anyone else seen this, and found a cure?

In no particular order:
Rename and delete condition tags. You can rename condition tag sets in Flare, but not the individual tags.
Boolean operators in conditional tag expressions. Actually, I don't miss these too much.
Stored conditional tag expressions, so I don't have to reapply them one tag ...

Re: Using Variables in Decoration Frames
I raised this with support, and the problem seems to be that Flare assumes that content will flow from one decoration frame to another, just like body frames.

Using Variables in Decoration Frames
I'm having problems getting variables to appear in decoration frames.
I'm setting up a page layout for a cover page. The layout includes 4 decoration frames. One frame contains an image, the other three contain user-defined variables (e.g. DocumentName, ProductName, VersionNumber, that sort of ...

Re: Mimic 4.0 Upgrade
Well, I've got my key, but part of the installation instructions on the MadCap site are to "Download and install Lame ACM Codec 1.0."
When downloaded, this turns out to be just a .zip file, and a non-self-extracting one at that.
What am I supposed to do with it?

Re: Icon Graphics update for 700 topics takes 168 hours plus
To be fair, moving multiple files can be a little unpredictable. Drag-and-drop seems to work OK, but cut-and-paste which works fine in the Folder view seems to become copy-and-paste in the Files view.

Re: Assigning custom page layouts
I think this is a known bug, or at least a feature. It seems as if you can't have more than one page of the same type in the same layout, even if named.
See, for example: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9598
As Lisa points out, why let you name pages if you can't refer to ...

Re: About Box Bitmap not saving...
The About Box image replaces the big round MadCap WebHelp image that appears when you click the upper-right logo.
To change the upper-right logo itself you need to go into the Skin Editor, Styles tab, ToolbarItem > Logo > Basic > Icon attribute.

Re: Flare's logic in case of multiple conditions on same content
As others have pointed out, if Condition_A and Condition_B are both applied to the same content, then whichever is included always "wins".
There is a sort of a workaround, but it's useful only if, for a particular piece of content, you know for sure that (a) you're going to specify both conditions ...
