Re: Forcing last page to be even

This obviously needs a bit more thought - probably just as well I'm not a developer! :D

Re: Forcing last page to be even

Thanks Lisa, I'll look into this.

It can't be too complicated to add a "Force last page odd/even" option to the topic properties though - sounds like a change request.

Forcing last page to be even

Hi folks
In my printed documentation I want a new chapter to start on an odd (right) page. Currently I have to check the output before I publish, and manually add blank pages to the last topics in the chapters where necessary. Is there a setting for a topic file that will ensure the file always ends ...

Re: Hiding unused styles

Hi Inge
I'm not sure what happened. When I opened a project in v8 I appeared to get a different and expanded set of styles than those that were listed in v7. I have now hidden the unwanted styles using v8, and copied the edited style sheet into my other projects, so it was really just an ...

Hiding unused styles

Hi all.
Long ago, prior to the Flare 8 upgrade, I had managed to hide all "unnecessary" styles such that when I clicked the Style button in the toolbar (or in the block > right-click > style class), only those styles I actually use are listed. I have recently upgraded to Flare 8, and now I find that ...

How do I edit the default layout for a new document

Hi folks

Experienced Flare users will probably have noticed that when we create a new document it always includes a paragraph style with the text "Delete this text and replace it with your own content." The style not one I use in my documents, and I have never yet needed the text "Delete this text ...

Unwanted variable sets in the Variables dialog

Hi.
When I want to insert a variable into a document, the Variable dialog (Ctrl+Shift+V) always includes three variable sets; Heading, MyVariables and System. All the variables I use are located in the MyVariables set, and this set is the only one that can be edited. The default set names given by ...

Server drives missing when Word output opened via Flare

Hi folks
When I compile a Word output and open the file via the View... button on the Flare toolbar, if I attempt to save the file elsewhere only the local pc drives are available. To see the full selection of local and server drives, I have to first close the file and then re-open it using Word or ...

Re: Flare 7: anyone else with popup problems?

A work-around is available - I've copied the important bits of the email I received from Support below...

1) In Windows, go to C:\Program Files\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare v7
2) Create a "Resources" folder here and go into that folder
3) Create a "Stylesheets" folder here and go into that folder
4 ...

Re: Vertical text in a table header?

Hi again.
We have now spent a few hours experimenting, and yes, you can use the code referenced in the linked page to rotate texts in a Flare table - thanks for the tip. However there is one point that you should be aware of:
In Flare/HTML, the space available for text in a cell appears to be linked ...

Vertical text in a table header?

Hi all

I'm trying to get some headers in a table to appear vertically - i.e. I want the word to be rotated by 90 deg. Is this possible? If so, can someone let me know how please. I can't find any table or text properties that do this.

Re: Page layout header/footer problem

Hi Bob
Sorry about the delay replying - got side-tracked onto another project. Anyway. Generating the PDF doesn't make any difference. The header and footer still appear on the front page even though the page layout with the header and footer isn't actually applied until the second page. I'm still ...

Page layout header/footer problem

Hi all.
I am new to page layouts and I'm having a problem setting them up.
In my Word output I want a "front page" on which I do not want either header or footer, just the title of the document, while the remainder of the document shall have both headers and footer. I have created layouts for the ...

Re: Automatically updating variables?

Hi again
I've tried the LongDate variable. In the topic file the variable reads [LongDate: 10. November 2009], but in the compiled output it reads "...Tuesday, November 10, 2009." I can live with the date in addition to the month, and I'm not that bothered about the order they appear in, but I ...

No, I hadn't noticed that date variable, I was concentrating on just the month. However it looks good, I'll try it and see if anyone notices the additional date. :D
Thanks for the tip.

Automatically updating variables?

Hi all
We include the month of publishing in the front of our documentation, e.g. "The information herein describes the application and its features as of November 2009.", and I have to remember to check and update this sentence every time I compile an output. You can't imagine how many times I have ...

Merging with TFS to allow versioning

I need to be able to merge Flare projects in TFS so that I can work on different versions of the documentation. After some initial problems with mappings, we got a Flare project to bind with TFS and everything appeared to function correctly. However when our TFS expert moved the project within TFS ...

Re: TFS: how to let Flare know that a project is already bound?

We have now managed to get one project working by deleting it from TFS then re-binding it via Flare. There was a problem with mappings, as Flare said the mapping didn't exist when it did. So we used a bit of "reverse logic", deleted the mapping from TFS, and then Flare found it and everything worked ...
